PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 3)

Wow twitter just posted this - a short video clip which appears to show the Second War, since it has Lor’themar and his elves (left) vs. orcs and trolls (right).

Not really sure what relevance that has to TWW?

The animation style makes me think that it’s a streaming service show rather than anything related to the expansion.

And rather than base the show on the latest content, looks like they’re going back to the greatest hits (the three wars).

It reminded me about the old HotS cinematics. One of few things blizz did genuinely good, so maybe it’d be something similar here, too.

I’d have said the same if it didn’t flash the TWW logo at the end.

Best guess is it’s an animated short about Alleria’s history in the lead up to her being the Main Character, but it’d be nice if they were branching out a bit.

Man has went back in time to represent the High Elves of the Alliance of Lordaeron in his Blood Elven Regent Uniform during a time period where he was but a humble little Ranger beneath Alleria, then Sylvanas, then Vereesa. Put that man in period-respecting uniform right now!

Also with his eye…already blinded? So this is genuinely Lor’themar travelling back in time, because his eye only gets destroyed in the Third War fighting Undead.

Maybe it’s Alleria’s memories and the Void’s messing with her.

I’ve been hoping for a 2D animated WoW series/show for a long time, so whatever this is going to be (a short film or series of short glimpses into the past), I’m pretty excited and curious. :eyes: I hope it’ll be good enough to be received positively by the fandom - it’s good to see them explore different medias for storytelling, to see what resonates with the audience. Different things for different people.

Much like the illustrations of the 2D shorts for the past few expansions, I suspect the animation was done in collaboration with some external studio rather than produced in-house, which might explain the “streaming service look” like Shog put it. The style gives me a bit of Vox Machina vibes.

Because we need more Windrunner content, obviously.

Correct. Sylvanas deserves her redemption arc.

That being the writers redeem themselves for their butchering of her.

More Windrunner content is always a bad thing, in my opinion. The turning point was that horrid comic at the start of BFA.

As for Khadgar getting struck down by the Worf effect, standard start of expansion fare. Common practice for the good guys to get smacked down at the start of the expansion or during the levelling process. Still bad practice, but not unexpected. It’s about as underwhelming as how Tirion bit the dust in Legion.

Khadgar uses Zoltraak!

Zoltraak has no effect!

This is probably going to be an in-game cinematic in the middle of a quest chain that may very well explain why Xal’atath is there, why she is alone, and why Khadgar is alone. Let’s bash this when we actually see the context.

That said - Him firing ONE spell (even if it was a cool one) and then seemingly exhausting himself to the point of keeling over was a bit underwhelming.

There are genuinely C-List elven characters that are more interesting than those three at this point; unfortunately, they’ve generally been ran into the ground pretty hard.

Thats just how Blizzard rolls… a character gets a new look/uniform?

Suddenly their previous iterarions also wear that new look! Just look at Khadgar, Alexstrasza, Kalecgos, Varian Wrynn, Jaina Proudmoore, Lor’themar Theron, Sylvanas Windrunner etc

Can never have enough Alleria or Vereesa content so yeah.

Then again, some Arator content would be cool too.

Is it over guys?

I think he was already exhausted, homie limped into the hall. He had 1 spell slot remaining.

It’s pretty lazy tbh. As is the fact that he’s one-eyed when he shouldn’t be. Don’t think they need to treat their audience as utter brainlets tbh.

I will bow my head and admit I might’ve been wrong initially re: the 2nd War stuff we got shown actually (although Lor’themar’s uniform is still incorrect and red which stands in contrast to the time period and his rank as a humble ranger back then but w/e).

The red banners seem like they’re just a flat-red, which is correct for 2nd War Horde which just used Red + Orcish Clan Banners and didn’t make use of the modern Horde symbol quite yet. Lor’themar seems like he isn’t blinded either, although he’s still far older than he should be for when this is taking place as he’s noted with a youthful visage back then still before he had aged thousands of years from hairline-reducing politics; but rather its just that the shadows surrounding his left-eye are very sharp, agular and pointed, so they look a bit like the scarring marks he has across his left eye.

It’s foreshadowing!

My guess was that he was also slinging spells WoD intro style at the invading Nerubians.

Seems like it’d be up Xal’s alley to pull something like that.
