PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 3)

How do planets form in this godforsaken setting. First its Titans, then Light & Void, then First Ones, now its worldsouls flying across the universe to find suns to leech off of and then they just… make a whole planet around themselves??? So are the individual Titans now some tyrants who’re going to be revealed to have never been Worldsouls? So far every Worldsoul is a Titan, regardless of the energy they suck on, it just means they become a Titan of [That Highly Specific Energy] and a Master of it.

Are the Tauren just accidentally even more incorrect now, since this giant ball of energy is just leeching off the Sun/An’she? Every time Blizzard overcomplicates something that was previously incredibly simple I feel an aneurysm growing in my head.

The old idea of Titans just being the souls of planets that gained sentience and then broke free/off their planets without killing it was simple enough and worked.

It didn’t need this extra convolution.

um sorry but how were we incorrect to start with. our view of things is correct and everyone else is wrong

isn’t that just because the last time the Void changed a worldsoul, Sargeras chopped it in half

Unknown. But Argus was filled with Death and Fel energy and still emerged a Titan.

Also I’m so glad Blizzard took on the feedback that clearly every Hunter wanted to be a Dark Ranger even if they didn’t pick Dark Ranger.

Really so glad they decided to completely rework this Hero Tree and not Pack Lord which still has 0x visuals, is clunky and unintuitive and already worse than Dark Ranger. But don’t worry we’ve completely reworked dark ranger (and several classes talent trees entirely) and added loads of visuals to it! Now every Hunter can play Dark Ranger with or without the Hero Talent Tree selected and get brutally punished via nerfs to every other talent tree if they don’t pick Dark Ranger.

blizzard desperately trying to keep sylvanas alive and relevant in our minds by forcibly turning all hunters into her

Don’t worry, I picked Sentinel and my Marksman Hunter still gets to use Dark Ranger Wailing Arrows

I will die on the hill that you should always have access to a hero spec with no overt visuals.

I don’t want my character to explode in various colours whenever i press execute because blizzard’s hero talent design is so narrowminded that all of the same class get funnelled into a highly specific and niche build.

Then it should simply be a toggleable/glyph-based system. A majority of people aren’t signing up for a no visual hero talent tree when promised hero talent trees with bombastic visuals. I get the point of it for RP, but its not in equitable spirit with the existence of the other Hero Trees. At least give me the Third Pet that is advertised on literally all of Pack Lord.

I feel this with affliction. It’s my favourite spec, but in terms of PvE its often under performed compared to the others.

Finally it is considered “the best” of the warlock specs for PvE, and its hero talents have no visuals except for a 0.5 second thing only you can see, that also doesn’t always happen.

It is very disappointing when demonology got new demons(albeit temporarily) and Destruction got Metamorphosis back(this time one that matches your race model).

Pack Leader’s already gotten some changes planned, to buff it a little for BM and to significantly rework it for Survival. At this point in time, it buffs Kill Command, Survival’s focus generator, to the point where it’s better to spam it whenever it’s available rather than use Raptor Strike or Mongoose Strike, Survival’s focus spender.

It’s a little backwards and it also provides far less damage than Sentinel. The only reason why you’d pick Pack Leader is for the massive survivability it grants your pet, which is great for solo content. So that’s a little sad, but that’s also how talents work. There is always going to be an optimal build that provides more damage and there are always going to be under-performing, underwhelming, under-tuned abilities that almost no one picks.

In the end, that’s all that hero talents are, separate packages of talents, and one is always going to be better than the other depending on the content that you’re doing. It’s something that has always been the case with WoW. The aesthetic argument isn’t new either - imagine designing your character around a fire mage aesthetic and roleplaying them as a fire mage, only for the Fire mage spec to be garbage in comparison to Frost and Arcane.

So for me, this is Blizzard just struggling with the same problem that they’ve always had. It’s nothing new.

I leveled an arcane mage version of Lintian specifically to be my main in Dragonflight, only to discover I had to play the piano to do any reasonable damage. I went back to hunter.

Which is more likely:-
That they reworked these mere weeks after release
or
they were always going to rework them but they got hit by the release window and they weren’t able to push it out for actual go-day?

Seems more likely to me the latter than the former.

Blizzard should start hiring me as their official prophet the way I predicted this months-in-advance when people were still in the honeymoon phase and didn’t think they would have drastic differences between them in balance: Pet peeves: The return (Part 8) - #332 by Meronspell-argent-dawn

Struggling with the same issue after such a long-time and myriad solutions from the community itself is just…not a good look, for any company. It’s embarrassing, really.

I’ve also been pointed out that hero talents are just talents and just an extension of the existing system for a while now.

Oh, and apparently the Pack Leader hotfixes I mentioned have already been implemented as of a few days ago.

Hunter

An issue causing Unnatural Causes to not function with multiple Hunters has been resolved.
Sentinel damage is now increased by Unnatural Causes.

Pack Leader

Vicious Hunt damage increased by 10% for Beast Mastery.
Vicious Hunt damage decreased by 10% for Survival.

Developers’ notes: When Vicious Hunt’s damage reaches a certain point, it can cause Kill Command to dominate Survival’s rotation. This adjustment and subsequent compensation are meant to ensure Pack Leader Survival Hunters are utilizing the other tools at their disposal.

Howl of the Pack critical strike damage bonus increased to 5% for Beast Mastery (was 3%).
Howl of the Pack critical strike damage bonus increased to 11% for Survival (was 7%).
Furious Assault damage bonus increased to 60% for Survival (was 30%).
Cull the Herd damage over time increased to 60% for Survival (was 30%).

Hellcaller’s final talent(which is the Best hero talents for Destruction) lets you transform into a Metamorphosis like state for about a minute.

It has the horns, glowing eyes and demonic purple claws and color of the original Metamorphosis, but it adds onto your actual race rather than do a new model.

So if you use it on a gnome, you stay a gnome but get part of the Metamorphosis/demonic visuals for the full duration. Same on any other race.

Hooly sheet, never noticed that, since I rarely look at my gnome when fighting xD

THat looked cool af!

Demonlogy’s main visual(For Diabolist) is that they get an updated Hand of Gul’dan. When casting it, you get a random buff out of three that ticks down over 20 seconds. When it expires, your next Hand of Gul’dan will summon a new demon. It will then apply the buff again, but rotate to the next demon until you’ve had all three.

You can get a Fel-Lord that charges an enemy and does a big axe swing, a Shivarra that channels fel, or a Pit Lord that strikes out a beam of fel. The Pit Lord also changes your Hand of Gul’dan into a new visual spell on its next cast.

Affliction(Soul Caller) has a small chance of spawning the same model that the Hellfire Citadel fel/void boss uses behind you for about half a second when you spend soulshards. (The idea for Soul Caller is that you are semi-possessed by a demon that buffs your soulshards)
