PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 4)

Nothing from what I can tell. Just that they’re adding an alchemy potion that replicates it so M+ sweats aren’t all race changing to NElf.

Ooooh. Right, phew. Had me worried for a moment there.

Blizzard’s track record of “Huh, this thing is problematic in X situation” is usually a case of "Guess we have to DESTROY IT THEN!" rather than, Iunno, fixing it in that particular situation, like sane people?!

This is really good for my very niche use of Hunters with camouflage for a poor man’s version of stealth.

The cool part is that my headcanon got to be sort of real with their venetian merchant getups being prosthetic bodies for their true form.

WoW’s best character work has been in small side content for a long, long time now. Side quests that are off the beaten path also tend to be like that.

Tbh I don’t think there’s a time this hasn’t been the case.

Feel like the Ethereals suffering from imposter syndrome turn existantial crisis from being forced to go from a material being to an energy in bindings is a good angle. Imo.

Yeah
Tbh that journal alone could dead-lift Jaina’s entire PTSD arc, then choke-slam it.

Shame that they use human models for all transmogs, because all of that stuff looks so much better on a dwarf.

Also, another piece of criticism for 11.2, Alleria seems to have forgotten all of the lessons that she learned throughout 11.0 and has reset to her factory default of “wants to kill Xal’atath more than anything.”

Some new stuff with talents. The Outlaw Rogue gun spam looks crazy. They really need to give them the option to glyph a throwing dagger or mini crossbow. Similarly with Hunter to give them pistols alternative.

I want those gryphons very bad. Their wings look good! I hate the wings of the previous (MoP) model so much, it wreck flying mounts for me (Legion hippogryphs are also on thin fracking ice)
(And I don’t have the willspirit to farm for the wind rook, beautiful as it is…)

The journals are indeed great characterization. If we can explore more of that through the side quests, it can be a neat zone. Granted, I liked the Netherstorm so the nostalgia appeal is working on me.

I did a few steps on the PTR, I was amused by the guardian at the entrance of Tazavesh saying something to the effect of “go solve things before a disaster happens. Or worse, the Maw Walker return”
I like when it pokes fun at the disaster magnets wandering hobo that is the PC.

For those of you who are willing to tolerate Nobbel, this video goes into depth about the story of K’aresh. It goes into a lot of detail highlighting how Xal’atath goes about manipulating and deceiving people, as well as unearthing the crimes of the Ravel.

It also makes a point of how Locus-Walker’s “don’t trust her, trust me” speech ultimately fails to work and how Alleria storms off with her trust in him shattered when it turns out that the Ravel destroyed K’aresh to destroy Dimensius - even if they did it at Xal’atath’s behest.

It’s actually a rather grim story of how no one trusts each other and by working together, they only come to trust each other even less and only work together in order to survive, with the promise that they will all get their answers and/or vengeance as soon as Dimensius is destroyed. Xal’atath is the one who is responsible for a lot of these truces, with a lot of “we have to work together for now, then you can seize what you want afterwards” promises, and everyone tries to get the upper hand in order to prepare for the inevitable string of betrayals at the end.

I have no doubt that some people will still view this as “Xal’atath suddenly being redeemed and becoming our best friend,” or “Xal’atath is a badly written mastermind manipulator and everything always goes according to plan for her,” but I kind of like this story.

This is the first time in a while that the WoW main story has had dark and negative vibes.
The “good guys” aren’t heroic heroes bravely holding their ground and seeking to defeat the big bad guy with the power of friendship, in the name of Azeroth.
Instead, they are a bunch of flawed individuals, plus an outright villain, only working together out of their desperation to survive, resorting to underhanded tactics, manipulation and unscrupulous partnerships in order to get the job done, many of whom are sworn to kill each other as soon as the job is done.
Though my opinion isn’t set in stone, this seems to me like a genuinely good story, one of the best that has come out of WoW in quite some time. At the very least, it’s a refreshing change.

Though Ve’nari does mention the Maw on one occasion, which might be enough for some people to condemn the entire story as total trash.

Is there a reason given for why that is?

We had the Azerothian Avengers assemble for Fyrakk of all people. Do we get a reason for why they’re all suddenly too busy to stop Shadowform Galactus from eating our planet

(this isn’t really a new complaint, I’m mostly just curious if they give any reasoning for it)

We at least know Xal hasn’t had everything her own way - the expression when she realised Gallywix had given the Dark Heart away, thinking it was under her orders?

That was absolutely 10/10 and I may have cackled a little IRL.

One reason is that the fight against Dimensius requires the Reshii Ribbons and Xal’atath’s expertise, and the Reshii Ribbons are in the hands of a lot of people who would rather not work together if they can help it, and no one would work with Xal’atath if they could help it.
Without those things, they wouldn’t even be able to approach Manaforge Omega without disintegrating due to the influence of Dimensius, and no amount of friendship and heroism can change that fact.

However, there’s no reason why Alleria couldn’t have called for more people to come to help on K’aresh, rather than just bringing along the void elves. That’s a bit of a weird decision.

Plus, you know, her entire scheme in 11.0 falling apart.

In fact, there’s been a lot of complaining about her being a jobber than no one can take seriously, how she’s completely useless, why don’t we just kill her because she can’t do anything right, etc, so it’ll be interesting to see how people react to a patch where she successfully manipulates a bunch of people in a way that we can actually observe.

Inviting the guys already plagued by void whispers to the planet infested and exploded by void monsters is such a Windrunner move.

I think the idea is that void elves are extremely disciplined and resistant to the Void’s corruption. If they weren’t, they would have already succumbed to it, and their constant wrestling with the Void means that they are better equipped than any other race to combat the Void and its whispers.

At least, that’s the usual logic behind the “fight fire with fire” races and classes in WoW, like demon hunters and warlocks and void elves.

It’s nice in theory but then when we see Void Elves deployed we get;-
Island Expedition guys (certifiably nuts)
Corrupted by N’zoth (https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Sleepless_Voidseeker) and turned into his minions
Corrupted by Xal’atath (https://warcraft.wiki.gg/wiki/Riftwalker_Nilara) and we’re forced to kill her

Plus the big looming thing over Alleria’s head where she’s all “if my family wasn’t alive I’d definitely go insane immediately, like in a single second, with no hesitation”. And considering the Void plays with fake visions, it seems like it wouldn’t be all that hard to tip her over the edge too, which may or may not happen.

The logic might make sense. The actual representation of VElves we see does not. They’re like…the least trustworthy to fight the Void!

Perhaps Blizzard will invest in this newfound grimness and have them all botch it badstyle. Void Elves deleted. High Elves replace them.

If only there was a playable race that had an entire religion/Cult centred around the Shadow that managed to utilise its powers for years+years without ever falling into deep corruption from it.

Honestly I’d trust Generic Gnome to resist the void’s whispers more than a Void Elf does.

My goblin shadow priest resists the whispers of the void because his self-esteem is so pitiably low that the idea of him having any sort of power, authority, or just plain-old luck is ludicruous to him.
