PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 4)

My first time trying housing proper with this. It’s simple but I’m oddly proud of it, lol. https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/1174803511154843668/1438022756158668862/image.png?ex=6916074e&is=6914b5ce&hm=a8c4d450c246aad9ef343525fdf4585a3b05de88b961581c1d03d0576d5e81d9&

I wonder what the non-roleplayers and loreheads opinion is on the Haronor.

I mean, we’re just a small echo chamber. But if the average population loaths them aswell, I wonder what Blizzard will do.

I reckon they’ll be popular for a few reasons.

  1. Avatar lookin’ race. They fill that nature niche.
  2. You can make them look like just about any other race. They make great stand ins for Nightborne, Kaldorei, Undead, etc etc. I imagine a lot of folk won’t RP them as Haranir but as other races.
  3. They’ll be popular in the first tier for raiders most likely due to the racials. 'A passive damage increase against Aberrations and Elementals, as well as reduced damage taken from them.’
A good number of raid bosses in the first tier fit those catagories - it’s Trolls in Throne of Thunder all over again.

Fair enough, and I suppose I could perhaps get over my hate for them to, then…

Alas, even small, simple, changes to the Harraniir are not going to happen, because why would Blizzard… Not like they even listened to our complaints, and if they do, it will take a zillion years like the Dracthyr.

Why didn’t Shaladrassil dying from the Nightmare, or Vordrassil from dying due to Saronite, or Nordrassil being blown up affect them, tho?

Why didn’t the second Well of Eternity being nearly completely being sucked dry(which would’ve stopped it from seeping down into their capital?)

Why specifically Teldrassil? And why would they join the faction that burned it? I got so many questions I don’t actually want the answer to….

To play devil’s advocate, the haranir are exactly the sort of arrogant elitists who might think that if only they were around at the time, they would have been able to prevent the Burning of Teldrassil and the Fourth War with their sage counsel. By aiding all of these lesser races and sharing their wisdom with them, they will be able to dissuade them from ever doing anything so foolish ever again.

The whole only Teldrassil matters certainly gives “There’s no war in Ba Sing Se” vibes. It’s like the others more ancient world tree never existed.

Thats assuming metzen A) has any real sway anymore and B) doesn’t think this stuff is great. Metzen pretty does the same story on repeat after all, he’s not a creative genius.

Or, and I hope it’s the case, the harronir have some deliciously dark secrets. Like their relations with the latest denizen of the Rift of Aln…

Oh, the Rift of Aln, where the Druids of the Dreamgrove willingly went into to defeat the Nightmare and its Lord. Where, when Xavius fell, Green Dragons were seen sleeping and Cenarius stood?

Dunno, that Rift doesn’t seem to dangerous anymore, lmao.

Wish they would just give it another name and stop trying to retcon stuff as being broken when it was already fixed. It could’ve just as easily been any other ancient portal to godsknow where. An ancient portal to the Void or whatever.

Teldrassil (a tree that was planted for selfish reasons and was inherently corrupted by the Nightmare for years in part because of Fandral’s folly) being really important to the Haranir (who hang out in the Rift of Aln, previously also heavily associated with the Nightmare) feels like it should be foreshadowing but I’m not sure it is.

Nothing to worry about, before the patch is over, the Herannir are already honourary citizens of Silvermoon. So surely they must be good guys!

Considering we’ve just discovered the underdark Navi have been wholesale ripped from another game with no changes. I doubt that.

Remember that much mocked statement from a decade ago " My team believes that continuity exists to enhance a story, not to tie the hands of creators."
All this is that statement bearing it’s sour, foul-smelling, nonsensical fruit. Yesterday does not exist for the blizzard writing team, only whatever they feel like writing today exists and they’ll rewrite history to make it work even if that makes a mess of everything that came before.

When they were first revealed, I didn’t know why people were getting hyped and excited by their appearance.
I saw snippets of potential here and there, but now, they are just… boring.

They have really no character of their own. Nearly all of it is either taken from night elves, trolls or tauren, with story that looked like it was scribbled on notes “Err.. yeah, We err… we were there. And we did this. And err… yeah, that’s all us.”

God, I miss Pandaria’s worldbuilding.

See in theory its cool that there was this tall amazonian troll/elf people fighting against the old gods corruption below us this entire time.

But take the mystery away and… they don’t seem so cool anymore.

Their treant form makes me wonder why we have so many treant models but can only be one type as a druid.

For all my optimism and refusal to engage in doomposting, I will allow this:

Not fond of how Haranir are currently written.

I like most of what I’ve seen about Midnight.

Horanir? Not so much :frowning:
