PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 4)

To be fair, Arathi predates Erathi, they sound similar but reading this, it doesn’t sound to bad.

And to an extend I can understand drawing on old work for inspiration and even subtile personal references. THAT said the Haranir is so copy past it comes off as not only lazy but down right unoriginal.

They should be Harafar. Far far away.

I’ll still make one, I like how they look.

The haranir could have been a tolerable inclusion, with just a few changes:

  • Harandar shouldn’t have featured in Midnight. It should’ve been an aspect of the War Within and the final patch, instead of buggering off to K’aresh.
  • Harandar shouldn’t have been the hub of all world trees, it should’ve just been the roots of Elun’Ahir. Just one of many world trees, in this instance, a subterranean one.
  • They shouldn’t have been written as the eldest native race of Azeroth and her chosen protectors. Simply an offshoot of dark troll that fled beneath the earth would have sufficed.

I feel like those three aspects alone would have made the haranir feel like a much more natural inclusion and it’s a shame that they ended up feeling so forced.
Danuser isn’t the only one to blame for this failing either, as it seems like the entire team failed to revise the reheated ideas that he supplied them with and make something of acceptable quality out of them.

On the positive side, the majority of the Zul’Aman questing experience seems great and any quibbles that I have with it are pretty minor.
Zul’Jarra fighting manifestations of her psyche when being tested by Jan’alai is as corny as it was when Thrall did it in Cataclysm and Liadrin gets along a little too well with Zul’Jarra considering millennia of hatred. Those are my two main complaints and they’re not very significant.
Otherwise, the sibling dynamic between Zul’Jan and Zul’Jarra is fantastic and the way that the loa are handled is great too. I can deal with the easily ignored haranir if it means I get troll lore of decent quality.

They removed the talent to mog 2 handers to 1 handers for fury warriors on the beta its so joever

I’m sure I saw some stuff about the talent going away because it’s just becoming a baseline spell you can get.

The spellbook passive on the alpha (tagged with ‘NYI’ - not yet implemented) was removed but it sounds like it wasn’t meant to go ‘live’ there in the first place. Back when it first cropped up the bluepost said

For anyone wondering about Single-Minded Fury (the ability to use 1-hand weapons) going away for Fury Warriors, please stay tuned for future updates!

We have plans in the works that didn’t make it in time for the initial Alpha test. We’ll provide more info with a forthcoming test build.

So I’m guessing they removed the passive while they figure out how to make it work properly and will add it back later.

As a hot tip for blizzard, they could save themselves a lot of effort by simply letting you transmog the weapons freely regardless of spec and class and not restricting it at all

Signed by every Night Elf that can’t use 1h swords or warglaives (that’s a whole OTHER multi-racial gripe) and so cannot mog moknglaives…

Whenever I read this I’m reminded of their future update for transmoggable tomes and quivers. (Although we finally got the latter)

I don’t like the new map of Quel’Thalas, Saltheril’s Haven is a named place while the likes of Fairbreeze, Tranquillien, The West Sanctum etc are not. :frowning:

Feelings on the zone itself?

Or even more simple. Make them actual Dark Trolls.

We know there was a clan of Dark Trolls living in the caves of Mt. Hyjal. We know they died defending Nordrassil alongside the Kaldorei, Alliance and Horde.

Just state these Dark Trolls were just a part of a larger tribe, and then add upon them: they kept going on Exoduses to try and protect other World Tree’s, until they found out that their roots naturally grow to one point for some reason. And then have them explore Harandar alongside us, eventually settling it and becoming a playable allied race!

And if there was a Troll clan to ever be made neutral and playable, it would definitively have been the Dark Trolls + apparently Troll stories are good this patch, might aswell roll on with it.

If they went with that they could have made the entire thing out of new customisation options for Trolls and Nightelves. Which unlock for your account after you did whatever now unlocks Haranir.

Arguably less work for them while not creating such a mess.

Yeah but they need random stuff to put on the back on the case? God does the game still have physical versions that aren’t a collector’s edition? Anyway, new races are a marketing feature, a pump and dump that they feel is necessary.

I think it’s gorgeous for the most part, aside from narrative choices that I wouldn’t have gone down… there isn’t a lot i can grumble about.

The Runestones are genuinely pretty. I love that the Sanctums have been given character, Tranquillien has forsaken citizens (based) and the port areas (Sunsail and Silvermoon) look like harbours.

Edit: I love that the third non-entity race added in a row has seemingly more customisation than forsaken male AND female AND Blood Elf male together.

Genuinely grinding my gears. Rustling the old jimmies.

Even there stupid Druidforms are customisable!

Everything about the Haranir is 110% Jimmy Rustling, at this point..

How did any of you guys get past the lag? If I’m even able to get past the loading screen, I’m getting 20 second delays on everything.

I’m going to give it a try.

“World of Warcraft always inspired itself from other medias, like with Warhammer, this is no different”.

No? Yeah, no. I don’t know what they were thinking.

Implying they were thinking in the first place is optimistic enough.

I’m talking about relatively easy fixes that they could’ve made after 11.0. People were intrigued by the haranir until we got this recent Harandar lore and that interest could’ve been satisfied with something a little more grounded and less bombastic.
If Harandar was turned into just a place beneath the earth where the roots of Elun’Ahir still thrives and the haranir were turned into just a dark troll offshoot that found their way beneath the earth, 80% of the complaints would evaporate.
It’s a very easy pivot that they could have made after Metzen took over, but I guess we’ll need to wait until the Last Titan for the true uncorrupted-by-Danuser Metzen kino expansion.
