PTR Spoiler/Discussion Thread (Part 4)

So not only can mortals just visit the afterlife whenever they feel like it, but afterlife residents can visit the mortal plane whenever they feel like it, too.

Does death mean anything anymore?

Exactly. Let’s not.

We knew that when Draka rocked up on a Legion world in her cinematic thing.

[Forsaken posting hours] Never did.

While I agree with the spirit of your criticism, I have to say that technically, they could always do this… I mean we have tons of quests where spirits and such intervened in the living world. It was always temporary of course or until we dealt with whatever issue was drawing them into the physical plane but we always believed that it’s temporary, now it can be “permanent” depending.

I’m looking around Tazavesh right now and I don’t see any other residents than the Brokers and Ethereals, so I’m not sure where you’re getting this information from.

Is it possible no one taught Danuser what “death” actually means when he was a child

Like he really really believes you just go somewhere else and life continues more or less at a similar pace

Please, if not a Spec, then atleast give us the option to change anything Fel to Void on Demon Hunters! I am so here for Void Hunters!

So are we going to see a resolution to the plotline about Ve’nari being hunted by her cartel, or did Blizzard forget and all brokers are best buddies now?

The core identity of Tazavesh is that it is a mystical market that isn’t bound to any single place, where eldritch merchants deal in all sorts of bizarre and exotic goods. Anything to do with the afterlife is superfluous, especially in its current situation.

Only ones I’ve seen so far on the PTR are beasts, which can safely be ignored as exotic animals gathered throughout the Twisting Nether. If you can share any non-broker residents of the Shadowlands that you’ve encountered, I’d like to hear of them.

Think of it this way:

To Horde roleplayers, every time your character interacts with a mag’har character, are you forced to viscerally confront the fact that their character is an inter-dimensional time-traveller who is only able to interact with your character because they came to Azeroth through a portal from an alternate version of Draenor from another universe?

While it may come up on rare occasions, it’s not a topic often focused on and often gets brushed over. Typically in RP, they’re just orcs who look different with some different technology and traditions.

Same deal with Tazavesh. When going there, your character doesn’t have to have their mind crushed under the sudden weight of nihilistic realisation that death is meaningless and everything bad in their life was all a part of the Jailer’s plan to remake reality. This can be brushed over and as a roleplayer, you can focus on the practical reality of Tazavesh, which is that it’s a mobile market ran by the K’areshi that deals in all sorts of exotic and arcane goods.

OOC, every time.

Like when I rewatch the Arthas ascension cinematic from WC3 there is that shred of knowledge that they turned the Helm of Domination into a couple of bent french fries. Does it change anything? Not really, but it’s always like a lingering fart in the room that I have to try and ignore.

I think we just have different degrees of suspension of disbelief then, since it’s not something I tend to think about or have to consciously ignore, unless it’s brought up during the scene. It’s just not a relevant or important detail, most of the time.

Same deal with Tazavesh and its connection to the Shadowlands. That aspect of the place doesn’t seem remotely important to the story that I’ve played to so far, and I don’t believe I’ve ran into any characters that have directly referenced the Shadowlands yet, though I’ve only been skimming. So, I just can’t bring myself to care.

To me, this still seems like an over-reaction to a non-issue when compared to bigger problems with the patch, but I guess it’s just a case of different strokes for different folks.

Oh, them bringing Tazavesh out of the Shadowlands, retconning the brokers to be ethereals and turning Ve’nari into a biologist who wants to build a park is great. It’s several more steps on the long road to completely removing Shadowlands from the lore.

None of the characters after Shadowlands every explicity stated Shadowlands, but they keep adding little crumbs to piss us off;

  • the Z’qali Elder in the Aberrus cave mentions seeing a Arena to fight in after you kill her,
  • Lady Moonberry shows up in the Emerald Dream,
  • You have Wildshapes’ in Bel’ameth,
  • During the 20th Anniversary event you had DK talking about the Shadowlands more times then not.
  • During the retaking of Lordaeron-quest, you actually go to the Shadowlands,
    and probably alot more.

Is it disrupting? No.
Does it piss me off they keep adding little nuggets to trigger my mind towards the Shadowlands’ expansion? Hard yes.

Mind that I do agree with this, but I wish they stopped with the little nuggets of Shadowlands aswell! (I do love the undeath-looking mounts from the Shadowlands, though!)

That might be because that took place during Shadowlands.

As garbage as Shadowlands was, I think it might be unhealthy and a sign of over-investment if you take psychic damage every time you’re reminded that it exists.

Bro is playing Arcane Mage with Shifting Power (and prolly other spells that were Covenant abilities), he takes psychic damage every time he does his rotation :skull:

Like yea, Shadowlands yucky yucky poo but at some point you should probably just close the game and go outside or smth.

I can actually relate: I feel a bit pissed each time they mention it.

It’s happened, we can’t get rid of it.
Accept it and ignore it as much as you can. If it’s factored into a story, meh. Take it for what it is and move on.

You got me there! I went and looked it up and you’re right. Beats me for Horde getting their city back before Alliance again (2-0 for Horde now, since we can’t ever get Theramore or Teldrassil back) :smirk:

We both know I am exaggerating, and we both know what I actually mean since you ignored the rest of the list.

That might actually be smaller than the Netherstorm zone from BC.

Vakan’s death yell is dumb, indefensible and meaningless. Undeniably bad, I agree.

A trickster spirit from the aspect of the Emerald Dream where green dragons and wild gods recover and are reborn (which was lore long before Shadowlands). Not a major issue at all, for the same reasons as Tazavesh.

Not sure what you mean by this. Models that were in Shadowlands that are reused outside of Shadowlands? I disagree with condemning an entire expansion full of models just because of the poor overall quality of that expansion.

Meta-event that we shouldn’t take as a canon event, during which all prior expansions got a brief cameo. I don’t consider this a major sin.

So yes, the first example you gave shows that Blizzard can do this poorly and it’s absolutely awful when they do, but a lot of the time it’s just:

Here’s something that happened to exist in Shadowlands, that technically fits in this situation and we’re not going to mention Shadowlands or tie this situation to the events of Shadowlands.

Which I consider pretty inoffensive.
