I keep reading posts and stories about how PvP is in vanilla, not world PvP but battlegrounds and arenas.
Is it true that Alliance is bad or has a very poor chance of winning Alterac Valley? Is Horde that much better on that BG or does the blue team also win their fair share?
I keep reading people saying that in Vanilla the Horde has racials better suited for PvP and Alliance is more suited for PvE, is this true and if so do things chance or shift in TBC and Wrath?
No alliance isnt bad - in AV horde starting cave is significantly closer than that of the alliance.
By the time Alliance players with epic mounts hit middle the horde 60% mounted players are already there - its that much of a difference.
So naturally if its a rush vs rush horde wins by default assuming neither side attempts to slow/wipe the other.
Horde racials are generally better (mainly orc/undead) especially since what a lot of alliance ones do can be done better with a dispel or free action potion
While this is my personal opinion i believe its balanced out with paladins being generally better than shamans - i mean holy vs any shaman spec that is.
TBC is different it depends what comps you meet (or situations you find yourself in bgs) where for example human rogues are the superior choice on alliance but if the enemy team has no stealther so that perception provides no opportunity for a superior opening then obviously almost any other race choice would be better.
So in general horde maybe again edges alliance out but this time with arena being a bigger focus some alliance racials can be a real game changer.
Hello Devour and thank you for all that information.
Maybe it was my error all along, I mean I look at the Alliance races and I think they are all cool, even the gnomes, but the feedback I get from many people in the community is that Alliance sucks either for the races, the quests (according to some of those people) aren’t that good, the lore sucks, capitals aren’t as good or badass as the Horde ones… personally i think that Ironforge and Stormwind are badass, I even like Darnassus, there’s some magic built into that place.
I guess at the end it’s all about perspective on things, I see people often say things like “what’s the point of playing a human if i’m already a human irl?” but then they wish to play a human like blood elf in TBC the complete opposite to their hulk like buffed orcs and taurens.
Maybe you can share some light into this that i don’t understand, it’s about Wintergrasp, how does that battleground work? Is it specific and played by players within the same server or is it cross server?
Used to be same server but was changed (and probably will remain so) to cross server.
When its up (if i remember every 3h) you queue at one of the various WG NPCs and play it out like sort of a regular battleground.
It provides a decent amount of honor even if its a long slugfest and also if memory serves right if at least one person from your own server wins a game for his side (as in alliance/horde) then WG fortress itself will be phased so that in 99% cases both horde and alliance can enter and do VoA raid.
No you either join as a defender or attacker. Usually its better as an attacker (you can win fast attacking but defenders need to run out the clock to win) but yeah its random so both horde/alliance gets to play attack/defense
Maybe you can share also some light about this
So in Vanilla the Alterac Valley battleground highly favors the Horde by design reason or terrain geography but I was wondering why people go to that BG? Does it award something special?
But we know that Horde in theory have an advantage in AV but how does it go for the Alliance on the other battlegrounds Warsong Gulch and Arathi Basin? Does the Alliance win some there?
AV simply rewards the best consistent honor per hour without premades whether you win or lose only in most extreme situations the losing team will fail to secure kills on most lieutenants which will result in very little honor.
Also getting exalted is pretty fast and easy and there are some good items there.
AB/WSG is a coin toss and the notion that alliance or horde is better is just childish bickering based often on anecdotal evidence of someone losing whole day.
Racials only truly matter at the highest level of play.
I have to be honest here, I do like Alliance a lot, I’m leveling a paladin I got him to level 10 and I love the vibe of the zones and the city Stormwind now that’s a badass capital.
I also have taken a look at some areas of the Alliance, mainly hubs, that they got in TBC and WotLK and i love the vibe that I got from them, I love the entry places that the Alliance has in Borean Tundra, that little keep near the sea and the even smaller camp that they got in Howling Fjord.
I guess that people see Horde as a more of a tribal faction, that might bring closure, a more familiar vibe to it but I bet that Alliance isn’t all that bad.
I just hope that I can get some AV wins as Alliance
