why do people still try and rank? with the gear basically pointless in the game with AQ/Naxx here?

For some specs, the pieces are still good. As Shadow, if I got the Rank 13 set I would probably use it forever.
Also they might be doing it for the achievement. In TBC, you will get to keep your highest earnt rank as a permanent title.

You could also ask why people raid Naxx, with TBC possibly coming… why do anything ingame or in real life… 
People like to have their own goals.

Personally I try to get the highest rank I can before tbc. R13 would be cool. 
and it’s easier to rank now compared to earlier, so the question is, why not?
Edit: Also, I love PvPing with my naxx gear, whats the point of having t3/kt weapons if I stay afk all day or raidlogg? I rather pvp and have a blast.

While I ranked early and have been done with it for a long time now, as the earlier priest said, the R13 set, at least for a shadow priest, still holds up, T2.5 is comparable in many ways but the R13 set has much more stamina, making it great in PvP.
I use it and mix in a few Naxx items too, like the weapon and it’s stupidly strong in PvP.
I killed a warrior with MoM who popped recklessness, so yeah, the R13 set still holds up, at least in PvP.

apart from SP is there any class the PVP gear/weapons are still useful?
The druid gear is also pretty good still since it’s so ‘all-round’ geared.
And even for most other classes, if you wanna PvP, since the epic sets are loaded with stamina, they’re still good for PvP.
Hunters General gloves and boots are better than T3 for PvP. Stamina bonus.
I think the R12 gloves are actually BiS forever, well, in Classic at least.
Yeah, 4% flat MS increase, they are pretty neat.
For ele 2pc is still pvp bis.
Phase 5 bis you had boots + leggs w 3pc 2.5. P6 bis its boots + helm w 3x ele fury.

Puts you at like 5.1~5.2 k hp 6k armor 550+ sp 37~38% crit. Definetly best for general use.
For when even more survivability is needed swap into some tankier jewlery and you go up to like 5.5 hp w 500 ish sp, add pvp chest + beefy shoulder enchant and it should hit like 6,1k ish but sit at 450 sp.
With 3p 2.5 w 3p ele fury you sit at 580 ish sp + the 50 nr proc but only about 4.7k hp. A tad too squishy in my oppinion, and that extra oomf is not really needed as w 500+ sp you should have no issue deleting anything. But still if you find yourself with a good frontline it should be nice to swap into for fun.
As for cloth mainslots/ dropping shield tho… big nono, only cloth/leather bracers/gloves allowed.
Believe they suck for rogues and warriors , never see folk using them and rank 14 weapons does anyone use them!??!!?

Once you reach rank can you ride any mount without rep?
At rank 11 you get the black mounts of every type except undead, the black one drops off baron. Still requires you to be exalted with the desired faction because you an only learn to ride a kodo at exalted with TB for example
Nope, you still need the riding skill and the racial requirements.
Probably to get the title for TBC?

To some it could be. I don’t know why anyone would even ask such a question… if it’s not for you, then it’s not. Doesn’t mean someone else can’t have joy from doing something they want, even if you don’t see the purpose.
Someone not playing WoW could just as well ask what’s the point. Does it really need an explanation why people like to do different things? Like, why you’re posting here on the forums? What’s the point. Why does anyone do that anymore
