PvP should be skill based not gear based

If pvp players like so much pvp why gear has to be involved? why not to just rely on pvp trickets and base line class/race to compete?
I watched 3v3 other day at pro level and its a joke and uninteresting with players coming with the most broken unbalanced classes.
This would not be a problem if balanced was simplified by trinckets/class/race.
Now trying to balance pve gear with covenant skill plus pvp skill and god knows how item level plays a role on this so you can never have a good pvp alt.
If pvp players praise themselves for using skill then item level gear is pointless, why pvp players support item level in their games ? makes no sense

Because getting epic gearz and crushing noobz is fun. Gear progressing is fun.

but then are you actually good at your class? or is your gear carrying you? Because thats what it feels like when you see 3v3. some pros just abuse the system that obviously cant be balanced properly

Indeed. If WoW PvPers wanted genuine skill-based PvP they wouldn’t be playing WoW. Top WoW PvPers just want to gear up and pwn everyone else.

so what are you suggesting? for scaling to come back again?

Well, for the same reason as we want ilvl in PvE, I guess. Getting a new piece of armor, which makes you feel a tiny bit stronger is awesome and rewarding. It’s the same reason why most do M+ and raids; for the purple pixels.

Forgot to mention: The problems in PvP right now is mainly because Blizzard have a difficult time properly balancing it. We also had PvP gear back in the older days, and things weren’t as bad as they are now.

I kinda agree. You can’t rely only in numbers . Skill should come first

No, to use them as normal heroes with their own stats based by their race/class.
which is much easier to balance and add variety that makes sense instead of a bugged pve pvp interaction that pvp’er call “skill”.

Making any sort of progress pointless then. If that would be done then even lvl 1 players could play aginst max lvl people because their stats are stuck forever due to their race/class

Who cares? Fun is fun. I’m terrible at the game so I couldn’t get 2k even with being full maxed out legendary equiped. Someone like Raiku though would probably smash more than 99 % of playerbase in starter gear.

But you’re not progressing on anything if all you do is relying on your higher gear level to win in pvp.
You still would need your abilities which means you would want to use a max level char.
Reward wise, you still can get gear from pvp vendor, to look cool at least, and mounts or other more meaningful rewards…

I watch DalaranGaming 1v1 and they do cool fights, but that’s because players there are not really trying to win, but when i went to watch 3v3 at pro level it was embarrassing to say the least to watch players clearly taking advantage of what is basically the most broken/unplayable of the month.
It’s not entertaining and makes it look like a joke.

Yeah agree. If you ever play ESO pvp is way more skillful. I have seen players winning against 4 enemies at the same time by skill alone. Kiting, stunning, interrupting bursting everything well timed.

Agreed!
Everyone entering pvp should have the same ilvl, and for the respective class bis stats. No need for loot in pvp. Let the skill sort it out! Same for pve. once you hit 60 you cant get any stronger. This is as good as your class gets. Rest is only cosmetics. Then balance everything around that fact.

Kinda agree. Although it kills the sense of gear progression in a way. I believe that gear should be a helper and not a factor on pvp

for the love of god no!

The problem is you see pros doing the exact opposite.

Why should gear exist in PvE then?

If you think skill has no factor in PvE might I direct your attention to the guilds timing 15s in week one of M+. You can’t with a straight face say it was down to gear, as pve gear is notorious for not dropping isn’t it?

So why could they do it and no one else? Skill.

So why should pve alone have gear to “help people out” but not PvP?

I would also remind you that the principle abusers of ilevel in PvP ATM are raiding guilds stomping rbgs in raid gear of higher ilevel than pvpers in average to get odd slots in conquest. Pure PvP players on average ATM are about 200-213 ilevel tending towards the lower end.

I guess because pve is predictable after a point so you need better numbers while pvp is unpredictable

why would you need gear from pvp vendors if your stats are already decided on your race/class?

Honestly you could say the same thing about pve. Why bother gearing up and just decide all stats on race/class and decide it on skill. subs would start dropping fast.

the pvp system does need a revamp, including ranked. wether its having a personal rating for all bgs/arenas or being able to solo queue for ranked. But just getting rid of absolutely everything and have everyone be the same based on class/race is a horrible idea. Even more simple game like a moba you still level up and get some variation in items/stats

i am only mediocre geared because i despise the current ranking system pretty much revolving around arena. And due to that in pvp there are plenty of people stronger than me due to gear. But i would stop pvping all together if everything is decided on class/race

Might be wrong here but… You seem to miss the fact those players ran multiple alts in split runs, getting the best gear possible at the time for their toons with the help of players giving them items. And yeah they are exelent players, with benefits. I say lvl the playing field for all, and then see who is actually the best. Not the ones who can afford millions in boe`s, not the ones being handed loot from boosters etc. Hit lvl 60= all are the same, but with different classes.
