Once again, I’m not disagreeing with you. Void Elves /are/ very much capable of appearing normal now, lore-wise A blue eyed, normal skinned Void Elf is still regarded as a VElf by the game, unlike say, a Man’ari Draenei. But Blizzard themselves had no intention of updating Allied Races customizations at that time with SLands’ release, and simply focused on the Core Races. The addition of those customization options was a last minute addition to the game, in order to placate that feedback.
As for watering down the VElf racial - I don’t see it as such. There’s precedent in it with the newly added Man’ari skins, where a Draenei’s racial turns from a Naaru symbol to a Sargerite one depending on what skin tone the player character uses. As well as offering different dialogues.
Beyond that, I don’t see the High Elven requests so much as a brand new High Elven race - but rather a request for more customization options. BElves are a core race, which, in spite of being the most popular race in the game, have arguably the most lacking options in terms of customization. And the same goes double for VElves.
If they fixed that, I’m sure you’d see less posts about the HE.
That Man’ari example is hugely subjective given it is still called Blessing of the Naaru and strongly implies the difference is merely an artefact of the Man’ari’s past. The Man’ari Draenei is repentant, they are on the path to restoring themselves to what they once were. Furthermore, there isn’t a Man’ari Eredar race they are aping in existence at the same time.
What is desired for Void Elves goes against the very point of the race, it is an attempt to deny that the player is in fact a Void Elf. What if the Void Elf player opts for those normal skin tones but likes their void racials? Most of the skin tones for a Void Elf are ‘normal’ so are most Void Elves forced to use non void racials now?
That’s the fundamental contradiction at play here. Is it fair to argue that an existing race should be gutted to be something they aren’t. Frankly, with Void Elves, blizz needs to go the other way. More tentacles, extra eyes, misshapen and mistmatched ears. Really go to town on the whole void thing. And refined arcane/light customisations should go to Blood Elves.
I had noticed that yeah, but I simply assumed those were maybe high elves that joined the void elf fray or maybe a way to show different shades of purple (like how not all green orc skin colours are the same type of green), hadn’t paid them too much thought admittedly nor stopped to stare at them or dialogue for a prolonged time, I wasn’t a big fan of K’aresh as a content zone so I just kind of dipped after the story was over without doing a lot of exploration.
And yea I agree on the racial, if only for the fact that the standalone race it exists on is void elf. As long as void elf is the main race, I would argue for keeping the racial gameplay abillities as void elves are. If things were the other way around and we’d have people using void elf customizatons on a hypothetical helf race demanding that racial should be made more purple, I’d also be against it.
I also get where you’re going with the split of void elf and light elf seeing the sunwell but I have to admit, alliance having also the lightforged draenei and the void elves in the same faction makes things feel a bit weird. Atleast by what we have on twitter its going to cause for some saucy dialogue between NPC’s atleast.
Oh true and for what it is worth, I don’t know any helf RPer that would demand the velf host race they are able to use their customizations on to be made less voidy, they seem to be mostly aware that theyare ‘guests’ in a way.
Undoubtedly they exist but they’re probably outliers moreso then the rule.
I was trying to put up that link but the forum just kept saying “Can’t post links” etc
….Ahh well.
Well these transmogs and the other I put up further up, gives me ideas for the rogue and hunter.
Just wonder if we get matching tabards aswell for the armors. We know there is a New Blood elf version in the files that was datamined years ago with the new IF dwarven armor. If we can get Vereesa New Tabard for Alliance players. Green tabard for the Farstriders. High elf version to match the High elf armors for Midnight. The Blood Knight Tabard to match the Blood knight version of the armor.
The Dignitary armor could be good transmog for Humans and Forsaken aswell. Mixing with other Transmog to look more medieval fantasy Rogue. I saw on the Dressing room some new daggers, could be they be on Tradepost that looks perfect for my main rogue called simple knife (Cosmetic). If we just had a thinner human model, I know about the skinny Kultiran human, it just too skinny. The animations the Skinny Kultiran human has is great. If Blizzard edited the Skinny Kultiran human model abit and put slightly more meat on the legs, chest and arms they be great Thinner human model as I always wanted my Main rogue to be Human as I always have my main rogue in other RPG games as Human.
The Silverglade refuge and the New updated Windrunner spire would be great for the Alliance High elves and Void elves Home. Love the overgrown look on the buildings of Windrunner Spire and Windrunner village. And there’s more space at the Silverglade Refuge so more buildings can be set up there later on.
Blood elves can keep Silvermoon. As I seen other youtubers players playing Midnight it didn’t feel anything High elf about Silvermoon. Not really a home for Alliance High elves. The New Windrunner spire is big “enough” to be a city for Alliance High elves and Void elves. And the Silverglade refuge could be the harbour for them. Or if we can just have the Silverglade refuge, Still would have liked the overgrown plants surrounding the buildings at Silverglade refuge. Gives a connection to nature.
Can’t post links anymore or use the “Preformatted text” as Blizzard seems to have removed that option aswell.
I don’t even particularly like Silvermoon. Not sure why, if it’s the red colour scheme or just the general design and layout of the city. A bit like Valdrakken, it doesn’t really feel like a real city where people live. More like a collection of random buildings.
Silverglade Refuge and its surrounding forests seems like a good home for the upcoming Alliance High Elves.
Why does this need a grain of salt? Once Silverglade Refuge appeared it was obviously going to be a base for what is left of the Silver Covenant which is unsurprising given the destruction of Dalaran and the fact that they were inevitably going to show up in this expansion, everyone knew that was going to come.
The size of the outpost is commensurate with what is left of them however. Now, whilst we now know Alliance High Elves are not happening in Midnight thanks to our dev friend from the previous week, we also see that patch 12.1
is the troll raid Ula’tek, set on the island of Atal’Utek. Now I know the thought processes involved here. The guess will soon be made that Forest Trolls will become an allied race as a result of this patch, and then inevitably someone will suggest Alliance High Elves will be added at the same time. I figure if Forest Trolls are added, and while I think it is unlikely it is possible, they’ll be a neutral race just as the Earthen are.
I’m certain that they did get asked about the possibility of Amani Trolls being playable during Gamescom, and the answer was “We have no intention for now, but it might change.” - which was then followed up a month later by Ion talking about how they’re not going to be adding in Sethrak, Ethereals and the sort due to costs. And instead focus on manageable races to add - which some took to imply Amani and High Elves.
Beyond that, the High Elven dialogue seems to imply that unlike the Void Elves, they have no intention of returning to Quel’thalas long-term? Atleast based off of how they don’t deem it as their home any longer.
Outside of the speculation on this thread, I will say that it’s kind of ehh that we’re getting a Troll dedicated patch immediately after launch, when we get a zone for them as-is. And then we’re going to be looking forward to Zul’drak in TLT, too.
Traditionally ‘we have no intention for now, but it might change’ is longform for ‘no we aren’t doing it’. It is consistent with their desire to never rule out anything, no matter how unlikely, in case they generate another ‘you think you want it but you don’t’ moment.
I think something similar was said in regards to a third Demon hunter spec not so long ago, which was then shown to be deliberately misleading, though that may itself have been a mistranslation of what was said.
Still, 12.1 is an ‘if not not, when?’ moment for the Forest Troll request. I do regard it as unlikely because the Amani models, while improved, do not reach the complexity or level of options the Haranir have and the Haranir are thematically very close to the Forest Trolls. Amani customisations on Darkspear seem to be a way of meeting the request to a degree. If High Elf customisations hadn’t already been given to Void Elves, I would actively expect that to have been a likelihood for this expansion. But as those have already been given there is almost certaintly nothing more to add on that score (and with Alliance High Elves not being added as a separate allied race, this is the only approach left that is even a little bit viable) though datamining does suggest Void Elf Paladins are a very strong possiiblity now, though how they explain that one will be fascinating.
In this regard, keep in mind that Vulperas were not added until the last patch of BfA - in spite of having been assisting the Horde since the very start of BfA. Same thing with playable Zandalari being added one and a half patches after their appearance. I’d imagine that - if they were to add Forest Trolls off of this precedent - they’d do so in 12.2. Or maybe even the TLT pre-patch. Another thing that might be worth keeping in mind with the Forest Trolls is that they share the exact same model as the Ice Trolls, so they’ll likely reiterate on it with Gundrak/Northrend.
Come to think of it, I don’t believe there’s ever been an Allied Race that was added exactly at the same time they were introduced to the narrative storyline, outside of Void Elves?
