You are debating with folks who seemingly have cottoned on that the dream of a standalone Allied Race is dead. This is progress of a sort, but the closure of one path (and their preferred one) has led to a focus on the second option, attempting to turn Void Elves into pretend Alliance High Elves. So I feel bad for real Void Elf fans who now have to protect the integrity of their chosen race.
They frame it as a matter of player choice, believing that to be an unanswerable argument. ‘Customization! Customization! Customization!’. After all, who can object to more customization options goes the argument.
When the proposed customizations cut against the core fantasy of the race in question, plenty of folk. For example, imagine if someone got it into their heads that Trolls should have mechanical limbs like mechagnomes. And why not, ANYONE can have mechanical limbs like Mechagnomes, a storyline could be constructed for that. But it would cut against the core race fantasy of Trolls to have that option. Or on another level, what if Nightborne started to ask for Night Elf customizations, which ignores how 10,000 years of the Nightwell changed them? That cuts against the core fantasy of the Nightborne, doesn’t it? Nightborne players should not have Night Elf customizations as a result. The integrity of the fantasy of the shared world we play in trumps a lot of what they would frame as player choice, whether they like it or not.
But here is the important thing. Take a step outside the bubble of this thread. Look at it from the outside. Look at the request on the racial they demand. Actually THINK about it objectively.
You realise something. There is going to be no toggle. The very request is ludicrous. It is not going to happen. They are not going to make Void Elves less voidy. They are not going to start tweaking racials in that way for two reasons. Firstly, racials are meant to accentuate the core fantasy of the race, to add a little flavour. They aren’t going to tinker with it to placate a small bunch of unsatisfyiable roleplayers.
Secondly, if they did do this, they’d set a precedent. Why do Void Elves get to tinker with their racials in such a way, why nobody else? Do you really think they want to open that particular can of worms?

I do worry for void elves as midnight is the time they would do something if they were ever going to. But I’ve got to have faith that blizzard know what they’re doing here.
The key moment is going to be the end of the Sunwell raid when we see what happens. It looks like that will be the end of the Elf story because 12.1 is going to be a Troll raid, and 12.2 has to bridge to the Last Titan which means we will be ‘off-site’ from Quel’thalas.
I believe someone datamined that the final chapter of the campaign is along the lines of ‘a new well’ so we will see what they intend within a few months.

Blizzard will not change the racial.
Having already given them skin tones and hair colours that are similar to a Blood Elf, if further customization comes I too think they will give the Void Elves more interesting void customizations.
It’s not ludicrous when the entire premise of the passive state being able to be “containted” lies in the same category as Dracthyr being able to have a chosen form.

I think they’ll be able to be Paladins, but it seems Blizzard is drawing a distinction between wielding a power and emobodying it. Hence why we have Undead Holy Priests and Lightforged Draenei Warlocks.

We dont know if void elves paladins will be added. They might be. The datamined mount is cool in that its the void elf unlock mount. Void elf paladins could be cool in a disc priest like way. Balancing void and light.
But we don’t know we’re getting them.
And having them doesnt mean no more void either.
It’s completely ludicrous.
You want Blizzard to change a void based racial on a void based race so you can be less voidy.
That’s just dumb. And opens the can of worms of other races asking for similar treatments.

Hopefully it’s something we’ll see reflected later on in the expansion as well, in terms of actual customization and by solving the Helven issue once and for all.
That new VE customizations should always ALSO have new void-style options and not just be HE inspired. The normal hair- and skin colors were a big win for the HE community, but to just ignore the players who actually enjoy the purple-tentacle-themed stuff and don’t expand on that would be unfair. Like it or not, the race is called “Void Elves”. 
I agree, but if I understand Moritz correctly, he wishes for Blizzard to expand on the Void Elf theme, with less focus on what HE players want. I don’t necessaliry share this opinion, but I can understand where it comes from and I don’t think it’s baseless.
In the same way that making the tentacles optional did. You can pick how much your character is resonating with the Void.
