Quel’dorei High Elves as an Alliance allied race - 2024 (Part 2)

Did I ruffle your feathers?

:dracthyr_hehe_animated:

Don’t know why you take it so personal, I am merely stating I learned something I didn’t know of before. Yet you somehow had to make it personal.

Personal not really. Surprised you didn’t know that tidbit? Absolutely. Assuming you used that as a “gotcha” moment in the whole High Elves being morally superior that’s been cropping every now and then? Admittedly I did. If that wounds you I apologize.

As for the Alliance “coming to save Silvermoon”. Yes it’s a threat to all but also more of the Army of Light and Alleria’s Void Elves being involved due to their ties to Xal’atath and their cosmic forces. It really showcases the issues with the lack of the Neutral Groups beyond the factions. In that Regard Legion’s Class Orders did more harm than good since they effectively removed the race/class nuance but the same new Neutral Groups would end up getting dissolved in BFA. Without groups like Earthen Ring, Cenarion Circle or Argent Dawn there’s a lack of intermediary.

Although ironically the Army of Light appears to be actually increasing the faction friction rather than erasing it as the Silvermoon NPC seems rather displeased with how much the group treats Silvermoon as their stomping ground. Hell some NPC mentions that the last time the Army marched through Silvermoon it was the Scourge led by Arthas. The Alliance Presence is also referred to as temporary although it’s unlikely it will ever extend to the gameplay as Silvermoon will have to remain a hub for leveling (although I wouldn’t mind there being a phasing introduced not unlike they did with Theramore in MoP, Undercity in BfA and Tel’drasil but it’s Unlikely that Blizz would want to put any thought or resources towards it).

I feel like Kiryanor should be the last person in this thread to point out anyone’s state of knowledge of the lore. Seeing as they’ve gotten several things wrong.

Most recent examples where Kiryanor thought that Vereesa (and the Silver Covenant) weren’t a part of the Alliance, and that Eredar are all official members of the Alliance.

We do end up fighting some of the Army of the Light’s leadership, so it’s safe to assume that the friction won’t be long term. They’re heavily pushing for the evil light-theme.

But I guess we’ll see how it turns out.

Let me rephrase it:

I don’t think Silvermoon will become canonically neutral.
At most I think we will have a council where Thalassian Elves can be permitted some form of audience, but it’ll remain in full Horde control, along with the rest of Quel’Thalas.

I am curious to see where they take the story if the Sunwell is changed, and Void Elves can actually exist without posing a threat to it.

Well Turalyon is still the High Regent of the Alliance though isn’t he? Does that mean the Alliance gets to finally experience their “Garrosh Moment?”

Forgive me for not realizing that the group that only ever shows up in the story whenever Dalaran allows them to is actually a full-time fledged part of the Alliance. Compared to Sunreavers that out their loyalty to the Horde over that to Dalaran (which is the argument used by Jaina during the Purge) Silver Covenant seems to only act when Dalaran allows it. During Isle of Thunder they are only there because Jaina brought them. Afterwards they only ever show when Dalaran is involved. Trust me Silver Covenant would gain a ton if they walked out of Dalaran with Jaina (or would just vanish from the story entirely). As for Eredar the PLAYABLE faction of them is entirely on the Alliance side. We discussed it on the Roleplaying side of things which I truthfully argued that it’s impossible for people that play with Eredar customization to RP a full fledged Legion supporter since the game refuses that fantasy.

Also says the person that kept claiming that Blood Elves all Knowingly fed on fel and thus are physically different from High Elves. Pot, meet kettle.

I’ve never claimed they were physically different.

But judging by what you said I guess adding lying next to you being a hypocrite doesn’t mean much to you.

My apologies I did sincerely mistaken you with other users due to the similarities in the name.

But I guess it matters little to a person that throws personal insults like they’re a candy.

Not only do you act like a hypocrite to Alfiriniel.

Now you’re also lying about the context we spoke of, to which you were mistaken. At least own up to it.

This is the context.
And you then talked about it from an out of context perspective.

We were talking about Eredar customization.
I brought it up when comparing how different it is from the perspective of the race that received it compared to your side’s proposed High Elven customization for Void Elves.

I did say that Eredar customization did not remove the core fantasy of Dreanei and instead expanded on it as Eredar reach out and try to reconnect with their kin. Yes I didn’t specify I only talk about Penitents because I assumed that’s given considering I was talking about customization option given to players.

Considering how hard it seems for the people here to not take things out of context if it suits them I will do my best to next time be as precise as I can be so as to not lead you and yours alike to a wrong conclusion.

Yes and I stay by what I said. The core fantasy of Man’ari Customization comes with the basic Lore. You are penitent. The gameplay will not support any other fantasy. Dracthyr Visage is still the core aspect for their race as being made in Dragon’s image. Yes they can prefer to stay in their guise for as long as possible but that applies to all Dragons and Dracthyr so the gameplay can support it. Unless your argument was that player can pretend their Dracthyr only has their Visage form in which case the fantasy is not supported as each time you use the Racial and all the time in combat as Evoker (which pre TWW was the only class available for them) you revert back.

Something that a lot of antis do is that they conflate what the game permits with what the game actually is and most importantly, forget what the RPG aspect means.

Blizzard has created the World.

In the World X things exist.

The actual lore and the gameplay are rarely showing the full picture.

The Eredar are absolutely still hated by most people. The penitents aren’t servants of the legion anymore, but they’re not loveydovey with anybody. They’re not even allowed to exist in the public sphere of major Alliance cities. They are outcasts, and they know they cannot be forgiven - but they want to make amends from the shadows.

That is the lore of the playable Eredar.

Then from an RPG perspective, you can be any kind of Eredar. You can be a fanatical Sargeras worshipper that waits for the day their master is finally free.

The lore is presented for you to interact with, you make your own story from there.

What Alliance High Elf players want is not options to change the way Blizzard introduced things (although that would be ideal, but that ship has likely sailed a long time ago), we ask for non-intrusive customization to fulfill our RPG experience.

Thats the RP aspect.
the game puts you down as a penitent, the game treats you like a draenei (sometimes a penitent) the game says you are a hero of your faction and you will save the world.

But you are free to RP your own story, however no quest, NPC or world content is going to support you larping as anything else but a hero.

I can larp as a free roaming, cultist warlock serving my own interest but as far as the game is concerned i’m on Anduins call list when he needs a favor and I am respected by the alliance and hailed as a champion and hero.

Please read:

The game will never treat you as a high elf.
best we can offer is the blood elf skin tones and toggles to remove the void from your hair.

We have that, you can RP as your high elf OC as much as you like, but I understand that it isn’t enough, and some folk are bothered because they turn purple for 40seconds when they are engaging in PVP and PVE content, have an echoy voice and NPCs keep treaten them like void elves.

It’s an MMORPG.

What we’re asking for is not a new race, or an impossible mechanic.
One of our requests have already been implemented in a way for existing races (Eredar having a differently coloured passive).

We know this, hence why I specified…

You have your non intrusives though, you just want more and we can go back and forth about why some of them are unresonable but others have already done this.

Bursting into void during combat is very disruptive for someone who wants to play as an Alliance High Elf. Allowing the passive to be an option, logically speaking, takes nothing away from the experience of Void Elves.

For a Void Elf, the quest can be to contain your power vs unleashing it.

We’re not talking about moving any mountains here…

But because we don’t live in a perfect world, all we can do is ask for breadcrumbs.

To which I ask why are you looking at your character when you are in combat? isn’t there somewhere else you should pay attention?
Or maybe I am just strange and I barely notice when it happens when I play my void elves.

Yes it is. However it’s an evolved form of cRPG and not Tabletop RPG. The game is not, and never will be built to support all fantasies. WoW is still limited by the frames of what the developers decided is possible. It’s not a sandbox make your own story even from it’s earliest stages when the story was loosely defined. Even then you still were tied to the faction your race belongs to. No matter how hard you’d want to make a Night Elf that’s not enemy to Orcs or Tauren that befriended humans of Theramore it’s going to be impossible. Even my fantasy is limited because in my backstory Kiryanor sat out the 4th war since she didn’t agree with the reasoning yet the NPC will treat her as if she was involved. Hell I can’t even fulfill my personal animosity to characters like Jaina, Varessa, Alleria or Umbric because the game forces me to interact with them on “proper terms”.

Hell if I ever decide to add legion’s artifacts to my Transmog the game will treat me as the High Lord of Silver Hand when from my perspective it’s not a title my character would take or accept.

That’s not an argument, but okay.

And nobody is asking them to build anything that isn’t already there, we can already look the part, after all.

As I said:

Despite looking like a fully fledged demon, the Eredar will still be spoken to as though they’re a Draenei, but their passive is still changed.

Maybe it’s me being pedantic or stubborn but I feel that argument would hold more ground if Eredar customization was given to Lightforged. Because then being a fel fueled demon would make them incompatible with the core race Fantasy. But on the fundamental level Draenei are not light infused. Hell the race since it’s introduction had members that were physically and spiritually unable to wield Light (although I don’t think Broken were initially available as customization).

“Voidless” Void Elf would however deny the core fantasy of the race. The small potential lore justification that got thrown around (silencing the voices) falls flat when you consider Void Elves can’t exert their will upon that aspect. Trying to control the voices is what leads to void consuming you.

I agree with you to an extent.
However, the aspect of not being consumed by the purple passive during combat doesn’t make them any less Void Elven.

The passive isn’t shown on any Void Elf Npcs during combat, to my knowledge.

It’s strictly a customization option that works for both Void and High Ef players.
The lore reason for it, if they make it a quest or not can be fitted however they see fit.
