Questing in WoD Sucks & Should be Skip-able!

Hi. If you were to take a look at Kangji’s character achievements, you will see that I am by no means “shy” when it comes to questing. This character physically obtained Loremaster during Mists of Pandaria, completing pretty much every quest in Eastern Kingdoms, Kalimdor, Outland, Northrend & Pandaria… I did this all whilst levelling too. I had a lot of fun & enjoyed the experience for the most part. Sure, there was the odd zone that I didn’t particularly like, but they few & far between & I managed to persevere. All together I have completed over 5250 on this character alone.

I am now trying to level my way through Warlords of Draenor content. There is no nice or polite way of putting this, but WoD questing is really, really bad… It is terrible in fact! The worst questing & zones I have ever encounter in WoW & quite possibly MMO’s in general. As I was preparing to suffocate myself with an onion sandwhich due to the tedious exposure of WoD content, I reached out to a friend who had just recently finished levelling through WoD on a Deathknight character. He agreed with my view point on how bad WoD questing is & advised that I should just focus on bonus XP areas & finding treasures, like he does.

Granted this method of levelling is certainly more pallet-able than questing in WoD, but it is still not very fun or engaging. Plus I don’t have flying in WoD zones as of yet, so this tactic isn’t the most efficient for me either. After growing incredibly tired of Draenor in general I started to think about other characters that I would like to level… I then had the sudden realisation that every character I roll is destined, doomed to level through WoD from levels 90 to 100. There is simply no escaping it… Unless I pay for a character boost. This may actually be money well spent, if you value your sanity. Personally I don’t like the idea of paying money to skip in game content.

I was thinking about how questing in general scales now. Please correct if I am wrong because I am not 100% sure, but the way I understand it is as follows. Classic zones scale from 20 to 60, Outland & Northrend are paired up & scale 60 to 80, Cataclysm zones & Pandaria are paired & scale 80 to 90. At this point your choices run out… You have to do 90 to 100 in WoD zones & then 100 to 110 in Legion zones. If I could make just one change to this, it would be to group Cataclysm, MoP & WoD zones into one scale-able package, 80 to 100… OR to pair WoD & Legion content so it would scale 90 to 110.

Even better, make the whole game scale 20 to 110. That way you can level how you want & where you want… If you really wanted to you could level in Searing Gorge at level 95. Or perhaps your favourite zone is Jade Forest & want to go there ASAP at level 21. Essentially what I am suggesting is that Blizzard make the whole levelling process more open & free. Allow players to make their own choice & having a truly unique levelling experience from one character to another. Giving players the options to spend more time in zones they enjoy & less time in zones they dislike.

TL;DR - Let me skip WoD content entirely! :stuck_out_tongue:

Do dungeons or pvp. You don’t have to do any questing really to get to 120.

A lot of people just go and grab treasures and do the odd bonus zone bits.

Various addons will give you the treasure locations.

Ahhhhh! Don’t say that! I’m just about to ding 90 and I’m so proud of myself for finally levelling a character instead of hitting outland and using a boost because it is painful to level 60 to 80 and was so excited to get into WoD and only be 20 levels away from heritage armour!

It can’t be that bad, it’s only 10 levels and I never did WoD properly due to a mistake with my armour  when it was the current expansion so I’m gonna give it a good old British try

Idk why ppl seem to hate wod questing so much. I found some of the very old zones a lot worse.
If you’ve never seen it, it will be fine. I think most ppl just not finding it enjoyable to level through it more than a couple times. And again. I couldnt say there is a zone i enjoy after the 12th maxed character.

Wod is currently the fastest expansion to go through. With heirlooms, i only had to do couple quests in frostfire ridge then just fly over the map and complete the bonus objectives.
Not sure why the quests would feel worse to do than anywhere else.

WoD felt off on my first playthrough in October. Specially due to the long scenarios you get into for no real reason these days.

On my subsequent playthroughs it felt way better due to me knowing what the hell to do, mostly ignoring garrison crap, and then on my 5th char I actually had Pathfinder so I just breezed by in no time.

Don’t know, Feels barren? Yes. Disperse? Yes. Professions blow? Gotcha. But it doesn’t take too long and some areas are actually fun.

YMMV, ofc. Just get rested EXP and you’ll be out in no time.

WoD questing is some of the best in the game lmfao zones are all extremely beautiful  buy a boost or something :slight_smile::slight_smile:

1 zone is all you need. 2-3 hours play max and you’re 98

I always found WoD leveling to be one of the most enjoyable parts of leveling. Cata and Pandaria always bored me to death and I couldn’t wait to get past them into WoD whenever I leveled a new char… And I loved the zones there, can’t say a single one sucks.

I must be doing something wrong… I started out questing int Shadowmoon Valley & it took me about about 4-5 hours just to go half way through 91 to ding 93. I have then since gone from 93 to 96 in about the same time (about 5 hours) since just focusing on bonus XP areas & Trying to find treasures. Again I don’t have flying in Draenor as I never touched WoD before (apart from the intro in Tannan Jungle.

My typical way of levelling in WoD consists of the following (Horde side):

Equipment and consumables: Full heirlooms, along with the XP flask bought at your garrison.

90-92: frostfire ridge
Do all the bonus objectives, along with some of the quests required to get to 92

92-96: Gorgrond
Do the first couple of quests to get your base up and running. Then do all the bonus objectives. If required, go back to do a couple of quests to 96

96-100: Spires of Arak
Now this is where I stay for the rest of the levelling. Choose the inn for the bonus XP, then just do all the bonus objectives as before, along with the quests. Only stop is at 98, to get the artifact weapons.

Bear in mind this was my method before BfA, and BfA has seen nerfs to the required XP per level in Legion content. So while I stayed in the Spires until 100, you could safely go to Legion content at 98. The reason I didn’t go to Legion content during Legion at level 98, was that I did it once and had to grind out 108-110 doing side quests, and it was a nightmare tracking them all down.

WoD content is extremely dull and boring, but this method I’ve used on all my alts through WoD, and it usually took me roughly 3-4 hours to get through all of WoD. Which isn’t half that bad.

Ah…flying makes a big difference as do full looms and treasure addons. Plus the garrison xp pot, rested xp and two gathering profs.

Really?

Questing in WoD is often thought as one of it’s strengths, especially if you’re into WoW’s lore, and I gotta say I agree.

You say that you went through every zone in WoW and you enjoyed most of it, what was it you enjoyed?
What about WoD questing don’t you like? You say it’s bad but then don’t give any examples why you think so you just say it’s really bad.

Seems to me that you just don’t like the amount of time it’s taking to level through them to me.

What? WOD leveling is the fastest level range in the game. It takes 3-4 hours to level from 90 to 100. And you don’t have to do a single quest. Just bonus objectives + treasures in the Shadowmoon Valley until level 94 and from 94 to 100 - Gorgrond.

If you don’t have draenor pathfinder yet, maybe you could think your trip trough draenor as working towards it. Check which parts you can do with your leveling character and do those, you don’t even notice how xp just piles on while you busy with that. You can go later to grind reps and such in Tanaan when you are 120, should go fast! This might seem like exhausting idea at first but if you are going to level alts trough it, you will be happy when they can fly there and just snap their way to 98 by treasure hunting.

I just did WOD leveling without killing a single mob
Treasure hunting all the way!

Famous last words. /hysterical_laughter

No, it’s not that bad, at least if you have heirlooms. There are two major issues with Draenor:

First, scaling glitches here. Or, looked at another way, gear vs scaling is mismatched around 90-93. I did a post with detailed numbers on this, um … in this thread, with a summary here: https://eu.battle.net/forums/en/wow/topic/17617932654?page=10#post-182

Considering that scaling has made the time and difficulty of everything absolutely flat, with no variation at all, all the way from level 15 to level 90, Draenor is rather bracing, but not at all consistent.

There are, or at least were, also some specific bugs.

Second, the questing is very linear. This enables Blizzard to tell a very coherent story the first time you go through it, if you’re interested in the story, but makes it dull as dishwater to repeat.

  1. Turn warmode on and equip all heirlooms.
  2. When you ding 80, complete a Cata/MoP zone entirely - you’ll end up at level 92.
  3. Do WoD intro - you should be at level 94, at least 3/4 of level 93.
  4. In Shadowmoon, complete 3 quest hubs - whichever. You should be level 96/97.
  5. Buy an XP boost potion in your garrison (costs 100 garrison resources).
  6. Complete 2-3 bonus quests in Shadowmoon. You’ll ding at least 98.
  7. Teleport to Stormwind, relog and accept the quest to start Legion content.

Enjoy.

In the meantime you can complete a couple of dungeons for faster levelling.

EDIT: yeah, you should really unlock flying, otherwise it’s gonna take ages

Lol I did play it when it was “current” I came back to WoW during WoD so it’s not new to me, I just made a bit of a noob boo boo with my armour after boosting to 90 and well if I played it through then to lvl 100 in my free armour I’m sure it can’t be that difficult in my looms lmao. Yes you read that right I went the whole 10 levels in my boosted freebie armour because I am that stupid lol.

I will just repeat my mantra of “it’s only 10 levels” if I start feeling the need to smother myself with an onion sandwich like OP though

What are you talking about. WoD leveling is fastest of all the expansions. I plow through it in hour or two by doing bonus quests and collecting treasures. Fast af m8.
