Question about the census

Why are there more druids than shamans? I thought druids were the least played class.

I have finally convinced a friend to return to wow for classic and he’s asking me what’s more in demand: tanks or healers? He’s into shamans and would go that route if there wasn’t a tank shortage but also considering druid to tank dungeons while leveling.

Not sure what to tell him since I’ve had luck with good people while leveling and haven’t seen a shortage of either so I wanted to get some opinions.

We play in Bloodfang

Shamans and paladins are faction restricted

As a druid he can tank and also heal, but as a tank hes gona find grouo easier as heal most of the time…

Oh that explains a lot why they seem to be fewer than druids. I hadn’t thought of it.

At 60 Druids should be the least popular class, they are innervate bots.

Edit: Nah I love druids and always want more in my raids but the issue for them compared to other healers is the cast time for regular heals and the hots not being that useful.

Shamans and paladins are actually very popular on their faction.

Not so sure about that thoe, supprisingly rouges stand low and hunters cause of the cleave meta.

But i always hated the fact with druids you never get to see your gear, thoe Classic gear looks like, yea.

While it sounds useful to level as a druid most likely the fun will end at 60 so he’s leaning towards shamans since he at least likes the class fantasy and used to be a good healer (returning from wotlk)

Il be honest level as a druid you are left with feral, and its boring as hell to level as one the rotation is meh. With enhancment shmy its kinda fun,and on 40 with stormstike he 2shots mobs on the same lvl if it crits.
I am supprisingly shocked in a good way how shaman plays in classic.
The thing is he is kinda mana hungry no matter what,so ul have to buy alot of regents. Also i think Her/Alch go best with the class.
Playing since Sunwell patch and got 3 shamans on my retail account.

Question: leveling as enhance… Do you put your first five points in shield or ancestral knowledge? The idea being to survive in the open world questing and healing dungeons.

I went with Ancestrol.

To your first question, probably because druid specs became quite fun along the way and people who play druids on retail enjoy their versatility. The problem is that Vanilla hybrid classes were not exactly finished, so a number of specs are neither particularly fun nor particularly viable yet.

Shaman were luckier from this point of view. If your friend enjoys playing shaman, I think he’d be pleased to play with some tools which have been gradually removed from the game during later expansions. While I do miss some spells which were introduced in TBC or Wrath, I like the fact that I have a large utility toolbox.

Also, if he wants to tank, I saw some posts on the shaman forum about tanking as Enh until the 30s or early 40s. I’m Resto myself, so I haven’t put much thought into it, but I could see it working due to Rockbiter and Earthshock having built-in, steady threat. Obviously, we don’t have a taunt or proper tanking CDs, but with a full group, things die fast enough to not need them.

He could probably tank through a good chunk of leveling and then either continue as Enh or switch to Resto.

Obviously, if he wants to roll druid, he should roll druid, but I think he should just go with whatever he finds more enjoyable.
