Ragnaros' Auto hits - help me understand

I’m looking for a Ragnaros expert to satisfy my curiosity!

Basically I read that Rag has an auto-attack that does ~900-1200 dmg and is not affected by armor or anything except like defensive stance. Is this true?

I also read that Rag cannot to Crushing Blows or Critical strikes. This seems fishy, as I got both while in zerker stance when he 2-shot me as I screwed up^^ But I was also wearing fire res gear so prob had very little +Def on

So it’s all about his auto attack, don’t care about the fire attack etc etc

This is probably answering your question: https://wowwiki.fandom.com/wiki/Crushing_blow#Historical:_Avoiding_crushing_blows_from_raid_bosses

He melees for fire damage not physical, like any fire elemental, so armor does nothing. Defensive stance is a damage modifier and is applied to all damage.

I don’t know about crush or crits, I don’t see why he wouldn’t do them, but you should check deathlogs if you are uncertain.

He does pure fire damage, armour/def do absokutely nothing. And yes he can crit, pretty sure he can’t crush though. I’m at FR cap and never seen a crush, seen crits though.

He does both fire damage and normal melee hits. So you need full plate tanking gear with craploads of FR.

Think of Ragnaros as a giant shaman with flametongue weapon on his weapon.

With the twist being that the flametongue weapon effect deals significantly more damage than the normal damage. The normal melee damage is still more than enough to swat anyone who isn’t a tank in most cases though (so you can’t just put a priest in 300 fire resistance and expect him to tank).

Thanks you guys, it makes sense now. I got confused by a bug report I found on the web, but that was from a damn private server which I didn’t realise. It made sense together with recommendations of wearing leather and cloth fire res gear. So basically maximise Fire Res while also maintaining decent Armor and Def values.
