Of course, publishing free copyrighted material without permission is illegal too, there are companies that Nintendo and Square that are known for sending cease and desists to people that only have the intention to make fangames without selling it.
There is a permission for doing the mod, the website, the service, etc. but that does not mean there is a permission for earning any money for that. It would be similar to Skyrim mods, Bethesda allow anyone to create mods for their games and edit the game in any way, but they do not allow any monetary involvement with Skyrim mods not even voluntary donations without rewards
A copyright owner has the right to renounce to some of their own rights and allow it, but it must be explicit. Having access to the API only means there is permission to do their site but does not imply they have permission to earn any money with that.
They can start their next crusade about their premium service. This also uses the Blizz API and is really popular with guilds.
They offer a free spreadsheet which has some limitations and a slower refresh rate. There is also a premium service where if you pay via patreon you get various levels of perks.
Most addons get donations. None of them expect it. Just like Raider IO doesn’t expect people to pay. But they are grateful for anyone who does support them and they reward that support with various premium packages.
They are not Blizzard staff but i think the fact that defend someone who is violating Blizzard’s copyright is a good reason to revoke her MVP status. Why would Blizzard want to keep in her MVP program someone who think is okay to ilegally earn money at Blizzard’s expenses?
I think it is essential to start with people like you. You deserve to lose your MPV status for your opinion. I can’t argue about illegal activities before Blizzard removes from their MPV program people who are against Blizzard’s copyright.
My issue is not donations as such it’s actually (optionally) paying for an addon. Patreon is not a donation, it’s paying a subscription and Blizzard should clamp down on this.
Could you imagine if the Linux kernel had a premium version.
Addons are going down a free to play route where you get the addon for free technically but there’s paid options for more features, the useful stuff.
Youre MPV status imcompatible with your opinion. You are free to have an opinion againts copyright because there is nothing illegal in having an opinion, but being an MPV and being againts Blizzard’s copyright seems imcompatible.
Right its obvious you know nothing of legal matters and just venting your views at her being an mvp you sir are a child they are doing nothing illegal if they were wowhead would have been closed years ago.
The thing is the addon is still free and the website is still free. This is someone’s personal vendetta against a scoring system in the game for mythic plus. It’s not a free to play route at all.
No actually MvP are actually encoraged to express there views and yet again they are doing nothing wrong.
You mention her mvp status again i will flag you for harrasement now drop it please.
What vilation what proff do you have ?
Why is wowhead still running ?
Why is raidbots still running ?
Why is dbm still running ?
You are harrasing a person b3cause you know you are wrong.
Blizzard have revoked their access to API in cases where they break the rules. Raider IO does not break the rules, it does infringe any copyright either.
I don’t care how much you think you can threaten me with my own MVP status. It wont work
I have the WoWhead client and have had it for eight years. I’ve made close to 3200 uploads during that period. I also dont block the ads. I’d say I’ve made up for my use.
As for DBM. When you make an addon you agree to make it for free and people close whether or not to use it.
If for whatever reason you can’t continue doing this for free then you should stop; maybe pass it on for another to continue. Another addon will take it’s place, and this has happened in the past. You should not try and get around the rules by calling a subscription a donation.
