As a mostly solo player i’m very happy about Torghast in Shadowlands. Though it makes me want more. I’d really love to see Raids that scale starting from like 3 people or so. What up/downsides do you think there would be and what would you say is the chance we’ll ever see this kind of feature?
The main downside is that every boss mechanic needs to be planned to be able to be done by 3 people. So you can’t have bosses that require tank swapping, you can’t have a battle like Azshara, where the mechanics require at least 5 people in order to work. All bosses will become tank and spanks and I think this would get boring quickly.
I wouldn’t mind an instance designed to scale so much, but not replace raids in general.
I wouldn’t mind normal 5er dungeons to be able to be scaled down to maybe 3 or 4 and up to maybe 10. I can see this working for all our current dungeons - but not for raids. For the reasons that Popgligor has mentioned.
Absofuc*inglutely not. Raiding is the one single part of the game that still requires social interaction and communication. Wow is an MMO, not a single player story game.
Well not everyone enjoys the game like you might do. With a versatile game such as wow, i’m sure it could be implemented. At least 5 man raids would be fun already for me. I really enjoyed dungeons like Karazhan in Legion or the 8.2 Mechagon Dungeon, and i’d love to see raids like that too. It doesn’t have to be mythic difficulty, but maybe gear on the same level has hc raids would be nice. It’s just hard for some people, including me, with a tight reallife schedule to make friends online. And even you have to admit that pug raids aren’t exactly social. It feels like group finder already anyway. And even if a raid starts scaling from 3 people, it would still be social. The only difference would be how many people are in the raid. And from my experience smaller groups are actually more socially engaging than large raid groups.
As for the fight strategies i’m sure Blizzard would be able to design fights in a way that doesn’t require 2 tanks. It would be nice anyway to have a change in the raid tanking mechanics.
I’d like to see a “scenario” version for raids for 1-5 people… A scenario where you fight alongside NPCs or something to complete it.
Wouldn’t even have to drop any gear, just allow you to finish quests. Just to see the story unfold if you’re joining late in an expansion or prefer to play alone or with just your closest friends.
Even with LFR it can be a pain in the butt to find a group if a raid isn’t the newest content.
imagine being a solo player in a mmo wtf bro, 5 man raids would make raiding too easy. Raids are difficult because you have alot of people and one of them ffing up costs the pull. If you only have 5 people the chance of people messing up are reduced.
not sure it would work for raids, but I would not mind it for dungeons, at all, where you would be able go in whit 3 to 10 people and the difficult would scale up depending on how many players you have, and same whit loot, that could make up for some realy intresting fights realy and I doubt it would be to hard to implent.
could be something like.
3 players, low difficulty, lowest item level loot for current progress, good to do quest in.
5 players, normal loot same as heroic or mythic dungeons, this would also be the M+ dungeon.
10 players, hard mode, would be similar to M+ 30 now, though no timer and loot would go up to same as max for dungeon now. think Karazhan or any wrath 10 man difficulty for it.
there is already some dungeon in game that this could work realy well for and it has been the case back in classic also, whit BRS atleast.
theese mini raids where quite fun to do, and did give some challenge, offocurse now whit scalining in raids, they kind of became redunant but maby an idea to implent still, they could be made realy hard and give people something to do.
@Alphabeastx It’s not like they could design raids in a different way, to allow scaling from 3 or 5 players right? Who said raids would exactly stay the same if this would be implemented? Also it would still be a social experience. And for your info, there’s a lot of solo players. MMO doesn’t mean you have to constantly play with 1000 other people. Many things in the game are already now a solid solo experience. Don’t be so condescending and think a little more creative.
Imagine getting told how the game works by a demon hunter who uses a store transmog set. Alright bro. I can’t take anything you say seriously.
Your ideas would ruin the game.
Perhaps as an option alongside raids, not in place of.
Awarding gear that is more effective in the content only, so with effects like "primary and secondary stats in this item are increased by 100% when in x or the open world and not in a raid”, with their base value being say 60-70 per cent of typical ilevel values, or with gimmicky effects in place of secondaries that only work in the content.
Not raids…call them operations, or explorations or something.
So if raiding is not your thing, a solo/small group content that invites progressive challenge is there, but it provides no real gear competition as the gear even at the top end would be only equivalent to middle of the road raiding and mythic gear. Could adjust the values so it’s even weaker than that.
@Alphabeastx What is your problem? This isn’t even my main character. How sad must your life be to be so salty that you have to insult others in the wow forums? It was a simple suggestion. Reported.
Raids are designed to be for multiple people. 3 people is for scenarios, 5 for dungeons. Doesn’t apply to raiding, nor should it. You have to understand that the mechanics can’t be made around 3 to 25 people. It doesn’t work. Either 3 man raiding would be completely busted or wouldn’t work at all. 10 man is the absolute minimum, and I would hate for them to change that.
That being said, I’m all for more solo content or content that requires less than 10 people in general. I think that’s fine. Raids just don’t fit that category. They are made around larger groups than 3 people or whatever.
I would like to see a non instanced version of every raid with bosses that behave more like world rares. this would mean, a single player could take them on if they are super geared, but if not, they can just wait for another player to come along and take it down together. This would be a low pressure version of it where you can team up for fun or go it alone.
so I’m talking about dungeons and raids that behave somewhat like mechagon. as an option. you can also choose to do them as an instance in a group.
essentially the reason I want this is, some players are not as fast as others and avoid raids and dungeons as a general rule, and therefore miss out on big parts of the stories.
There are various reasons for this, some people socialise in different ways, some people have cognitive disorders, learning disabilities etc. these are more common than you think, even in people who you would talk to and think there is nothing wrong with them.
also there are people with children who need to keep one eye on the room, and one on the game.
I absolutely despise the idea to transform core parts of an mmorpg to be better for solo players. I don’t mind new types of content for solo playstyle / small groups like Torghast, Horrific Visions or Island Expeditions, but designing raid boss mechanics that can be done by 3 players would absolutely ruin what raiding is about.
Reported for what? Stating my opinion? Alright. I might aswell report your post for trolling.
why is it so bad, to bring in ‘solo’ players? I am a ‘solo’ player, yet in mechagon, I joined in the fights with other players. you seem to miss the fact that different people socialise in different ways. this is a massively multiplayer game, not a team based pvp game, or a party game, or a arena shooter, etc. the whole point of an mmorpg is a persistent world where freeform interactions can occur.
thing is, these ‘solo’ players may do a lot of chatting, may play with others on a casual basis, etc. I play with others in various ways such as running and helping someone with a mob if it looks like they are low health, popping a heal on then, using emotes to try and garner a laugh, etc.
This game is not just about grouping up and doing raids, or it wouldn’t be a mmorpg, it would be a raid game.
an mmorpg should definitely find ways to cater to all types of people, and encourage situations where they can choose to come together. to be honest, I personally believe things like instances, actually segregate payers into cliques, and discourages true social interaction.
@Alphabeastx You’re constantly condescending. Did you know you can share your opinion without acting like a child? Yeah, that’s a thing. I can accept other opinions, but what i don’t accept is people acting all condescending and inappropriate. You don’t have to belittle me for playing a class or wearing a certain a mog. You can either share your opinion like an adult, or you act like a salty kid, which you gave a good example for.
I do love this as a concept, not necessarily related to gameplay or gear rewards.
It has always bothered me that major raid bosses and settings simply never exist in the world. There is nowhere in the world to go to see Ragnaros - you have to go out of the world, into an instance.
And I like seeing areas such as Freehold or Atal’dazar that are in the world, but replicated for instances.
I’m just not sure that the payoff is enough to justify it. I think someone would have to come up with something clever to make it worth repeated visits on one hand, while not interfering with intended gear progression.
Not possible.
Raids require mechanics to be done and more than 1 tank per boss. These will not be changed to please the minority.
