If they changed SV to range again now, after falling in love with current SV I’d be really annoyed.
Current SV is fine.

False! The only reason I still play WoW is because the new SV hunter experience. Old ranged explosive shot SV hunter was lame and dull. The second they reverse SV hunter to old ranged hunter I quit this game again. Simple as that!
You keep repeating that, but can you show us some actual data to enforce your claims? Where do you get your info about what “majority” wants? IMHO you must be trolling.
That wouldn’t give us RSV back. It would just give us MM but with a select few elements inspired by the old RSV.
Common misconception…
Those who are asking for RSV back aren’t just looking for a ranged dmg spec. They are looking for the gameplay loop that was available through the old RSV. Something that neither BM nor MM provides. Not even close.
Not everyone’s who wants RSV back is doing this.
The same was accurate for RSV.
It shouldn’t.
If that’s what you think RSV was, then you have no idea how it played.
Top what?
The original descriptions portray the Hunter as a ranged fighter, literally.
But yeah, I agree that this in the modern day, considering the diversity of playstyles, it doesn’t have to mean that there cannot be a spec that focuses on melee. There’s precedent/support for such in lore and the history of the game.
Like I said above, neither BM nor MM plays anywhere close to the old RSV. People who are asking for RSV back aren’t just after “X ranged spec”, they are after the gameplay we saw with RSV.
This.
Incorrect.
This has no basis to support it.
Yes!
Really?.. there isnt?
just look at the cuirrent meta lol,
Survival Was behind MM In DPS throughout alot of its life time during its ranged period.
its been terrible comparitively since it went melee also.
I Said this about 2handed FDK back in SL Announcements, FDKs said the same rubbish to me, yet look where they are now. Blizzard do things like this to “hype” up things… they dont bother balancing it… they litterally never have.
they have proven with hteir statements on Demo lock. if they dont want u to play something they’ll nerf it into the ground.
Your statement was based on absolutes.
Here specifically, as in “it never changes/it never changed”.
Sure, RSV performed, and had less representation than both BM and MM on several past occasions. But it was also ahead of both of them multiple times. Both in PvE and in PvP.
Most of the time throughout history, was it most often the top performer? No.
Was it overall the most popular hunter spec of the three(since it actually became a spec that is)? Yes, especially in PvE.
You have the historical data still available to check. The median of RSV held a margain over both of the other hunter specs between late WotLK - patch 6.2 in WoD.
I heard Ion in that interview. I don’t agree with the notion that he was being serious with that comment.
I can actually agree with this, especially if they have a desire to implement highly controversial changes into the game. RSV being a prime example of this, as we saw with what they did to it going into 6.2 in WoD.
i aint saying survival hunter wasnt fun to play, its a darn sight more fun then todays survival hunter.
my point was blizzard only ever balance 1 Specc of every class.
and i’d argue the balancing has gotten worse since when Ranged survival existed. so no i dont think “old metas” or “TRaditions” is relevant to this
Ion picks 1 specc of every class, makes it viable and trashs the rest for tiers.
when was the last time Arcane was good?.
When was the last time Sub was good?
When was the last time Feral was Meta?
While they weren’t perfectly balanced, throughout most of Legion, all 3 specs were actually fairly close to one another.
Don’t get me wrong, I am in no way saying that spec tuning/balancing is in the right place. Do they have a tendency to…forget…certain specs for long periods? Yep, agreed.
legion balance was great
BFA and beyond has been a joke however tbh
Oh yes, very much so.
Although that is a result of their “need” to put so much of the dev time towards these temporary systems that are based around borrowed powers and such. The fact that certain talents/specs are left out and parts of them aren’t even working sometimes, yeah, it’s because they focus so much on these e.g. systems.
Rather than it being…“malicious” intent.
Now I want to be Frisbee King, what have you done???
Me dressed in some shorts and a t-shirt plus my doggo with me, like one of those dudes that are in a park during summer throwing frisbees for his dog to fetch.
OK so here’s the plan. We all go to the beach, and start yeeting Frisbees at the worgen. We’ll say it’s playing fetch with the dogs.
Sounds good to me. But you have to wear shorts too.
Btw, really off-topic here, (ignore me other people, sorry), but I had to say it, as a sort of transmog junkie.
I really like your transmog, that mask is great and I wish I could make it work for me in a way I liked, however in you it looks great the mask with the rest of the gear you chose EXCEPT for the belt and weapon, those are the 2 things I’d change because that brighter green kinda clashes with the more “dead” browns and greens you have on the rest of the gear. Other than that, it’s really nice. Meant to tell you this some months ago the first time I saw you here in the forums but I forgot.
Hey thanks man I really appreciate it.
Unfortunately I can’t get a darker tone weapon, I kind of vibe with the whole monster on a stick look. I have the spear version but I just fell in love with this weapon when I found it. I tried changing things up a bit and will keep an eye out for some nicer belts.
Badum tish.
You can try Spire of Tectus (the green version from Normal), seems to still be in the theme you want and has the right colors, or at least more matching imo. Also, you can try playing around with either the Unholy Weapon or Mending illusions on some weapons (like with the red version of the spear you mention, maybe).
As for belts, I took a closer look and that one is probably fine, but you could give a try to Short Jibbet Waistguard, Belt of Screaming Slag (the version with green eyes), Abandoned Zandalari Arrowlinks (or any of the other 2 recolors), Yak Belt (this one isn’t really on the monster theme but has the right colors). Try them out, see how those feel, if you don’t like any I think the current one is fine too.
Now, I am not by any means telling you what you should do or not, don’t take it the wrong way, it’s just my thing with mogs and when I see one with potential like yours, but isn’t quite there yet, I like to just give my feedback and try to help.
Also, one more thing. In case you are one of those SV (like me) that sometimes switch to a ranged weapon to make usage or Arcane Shot and/or Steady Shot, a nice little gun that could also fit color and kinda theme wise would be Larvae of the Great Worm/Silithid Husked Launcher.
Anyway, good luck with it.
To OP and the other people reading this, sorry for going off-topic, I’ll stop with it now.
I’m running with Elekk’s Thunder for my gun. With the alternate tint. Can’t go wrong with a massive Elekk skull canon. I tried for the amber spewer from the invasions of nzoth but I that drop rate is to low for me to really bother.
I have the yellow version of the pandaria belt you recommended I think that one matches a little better than the blue tint.
No man I super appreciate feedback it’s always nice to get some advice on the outfit. I am just sad many of the pieces I WOULD like look pretty bad on an orc. We tend to break masks.
Sorry for goin off topic kek.
Ion in 2017
“Representation doesn’t necessarily matter as much, I think. We knew with Survival Hunter that we were making a niche spec. It is a melee spec for a class that has traditionally being range. I think that a lot of existing hunters, they are all hunters because they want to be a range class, and so we don’t necessarily expect them or want them to feel like they should be changing; but for new players picking up that class, it is an intriguing option; and we have seen a lot of Survival Hunters doing extremely well at very high levels of play. So the fact that they are not playing as often, I don’t think reflects upon their potential so much as it just does where the audience is at right now. That’s not much of a problem.”
Let us have fun with MSV, you go play whatever you want. Btw, i guess survival hunters are not so scarce as you would like to be, i also am sure that the class will shine for everyone soon enough, arena top tier coming
Played surv since bc, but…
Surv redesign was the best thing ever happened
, i stop playing surv in wod (and hunter in general) cuz it was boring op stuff. Hope blizz will never hear stuff like this, thanks. Current surv gaves me a lot of fun to play, the number of utility is amazing, just clunky pet and weak st damage in pve - fix it and all be fine
It’s tho… stop kidding yourself.
Numbers: Its not just a tuning thing.
Class: As a class alot of people that got hooked on the hunter class over the years probably didnt want to play as melee in the first place.
Over and over again we se that range dps are more prefered over melee. And If not. There are other classes doing the job a hella lot better.
It was a meme thing over the years that blizzard gave in on. And the sacrifice something alot of players liked for something a few REALLY wanted.
