What are your favorite zones, by aesthetics or questing?

Zuldazar t b h

What was the zone where you get to pick the chick to ride with you on the bike to pound deathwing? Was that burning steppes? Either way its the zone with those quests in it.

Also highmountain with flying is amazing, but that might be cheating a little

  1. Suramar.
  2. Teldrassil.
  3. Argent tournament.
  4. Stormsong&Drustvar&Tiragarde
  5. Black rock depths dungeon.
  6. Feralas.

Teldrassil, the original Ashenvale, Stormpeaks and Drustvar are my all time favourites.

Edit; Didn’t see that aestethics could stand alone too. Can add Feralas and the original Azshara to the list too then. Feralas didn’t have much story for Alliance originally, neither did Azshara.

I like Kun Lai Summit for looks because I love mountain zones.

As for questing I recently did all of Vashjir again and was surprised at how much fun that was, esp the naga battlemaiden quests.

Timeless Isle because I spent there like 3 years (382 huolon kills before I got the mount) which I didnt mind because you had to fight for huolon spawn with alliance and after killing huolon you can farm “going to need a bigger bag” achievement and stormpeaks because of music and nostalgia - time I spent on farming TLPD.

Mechagone is one of not my favourite zone and of top of it I really like a place with gadjets, horde vs alliance fighting for rares like it should be. It’s not called world of warcraft for giving out hugs to eachother

It’s not to big like other zones and not small

I am a traditionalist. Elwynn and Westfall will always be up there among my favourite zones.

In no particular order mine would have to be:

  • Dun Morogh - I just love the unspoilt snow and have a thing for cold environments.
  • Loch Modan - Both lakes and the aesthetic of the Dwarves Bunker Houses really appeal to me.
  • Jade Forest & The Wandering Isle - The Bamboo forest theme really appealled to me, and the buildings were just beautifully designed.
  • Timeless Isle - Perhaps this one isn’t entirely aesthetic, but I just have such fond memories of it. It’s also a good example of how to do verticality in a zone whilst keeping it easy to navigate.
  • Gilneas - The gothic theme is really cool; It also really helped that I like rain.
  • Shadowmoon Valley (WoD) - The purple and teal colours worked really well for what they were going with, and definitely got across the tranquility and juxtaposition with Outland’s wrecked Shadowmoon Valley in our timeline.

Vanilla - (pre cata) The barrens

Music: 9/10
Quests: 6/10
Aesthetic: 7/10

Iconic classic music also used in desolace, and other barren-ish locations on kalimdor. Quests pre cata were relaxing and were rather humbling, just raptors, quilboar but the cool parts like wailing caverns really gave off RPG vibe. the aesthetic was also very nice and open.

TBC - Nagrand

Music: 6/10
Quests: 6/10
Aesthetic: 8/10

The music is good but nothing special or nostalgic to me, the quests are much like the barrens, animal hunting and the likes and I like it, it’s humbling and relaxing. The zone is beautiful, one of the best, with open fields, and floating islands, very cool.

WotLK - Grizzly Hills

Music: 9/10
Quests: 5/10
Aesthetic: 8/10

It looked cosy, the music was cosy and the quests involved cosy activities. Just one of the most lovely ‘‘holiday location’’ esk zones in the game and a nice break from snow.

Cata - Vash’jir

Music: 5/10
Quests: 7/10
Aesthetic: 9/10

So this is a very unpopular opinion, but people over played the under water aspect of this zone, when u go back and try it, it is actually really good. The whole sea horse thing was cool too. I also think a setting like vash’jir would make a great Naga expansion with bright vibrant blues and the likes rather than the dingy washed out colours of nazjatar.

MoP - Valley of the four winds

Music: 6/10
Quests: 6/10
Aesthetic: 8/10

Tiller quests were cool and unique, the music like most of pandaria’s sound track is amazing and the zone again is big beautiful open fields of green, I think you can gather what kind of zones I like.

WoD - Talador

Music: 9/10
Quests: 5/10
Aesthetic: 7/10

All of draenor (except tanaan) is equally gorgeous in my opinion however the quests in talador were mediocre, all that is made up for in the stellar music that plays here.

Legion - Suramar

Music: 5/10
Quests: 8/10
Aesthetic: 6/10

Although the music is average to me, and the zone, besides the spectacular city is mediocre and small, the real reason this is the best legion zone is because of how much effort went into constructing the city and the quest chain placed within it, and the fact this was something relatively new, this idea of an end game questing zone part of the continent as an entire zone was cool.

BFA - Stormsong valley

Music: 7/10
Quests: 5/10
Aesthetic: 7/10

The music on kul tiras in general is very good imo, especially the boralus music. However all of BFA’s levelling quests were painfully boring imo and the aesthetic, although nice to look at, is not as good of a ‘‘green fields’’ zone as nagrand, or even arathi highlands.

My top 10 of all the game

1.Barrens (pre cata)
2.Teldrassil (pre cata)
3.Ashenvale (pre cata)
4.Grizzly hills
5.Elwynn forest (pre cata)
6.tiris fall glades (pre cata)
7.Eversong Woods
8.Storm Peaks
9.Westfall (pre cata)
10. Nagrand (Outland)

1} Highmountain: Questing, looks, music, theme & best Order Hall.
It’s basically perfect.
2} Valley of the Four Winds: Questing, looks, music, theme & chill farm.
3} Grizzly Hills: Nostalgia, music & looks.
4} Silverpine Forest: Nostalgia; post-Cata because its by far one of the best early zones in the game. I always have fun leveling a Forsaken early on.

Going purely by aesthetics here.

Vanilla: Mulgore
Big open areas that I really miss nowadays with everything being so cramped. Beautiful scenery and just a cool city in the vista that you work your way towards.

TBC: Hellfire Peninsula
Again because it’s so large and open, it feels so much bigger than Tanaan does even though they should in theory be the same. The skybox was really cool stepping in for the first time aswel.

Wotlk: Grizzly Hills
That falling world tree is just awesome. Stepping in there after doing Fjord which I found horrid was refreshing.

Cata: Mount Hyjal
It has some beautiful scenery, Nordrassil is awesome. Also loved the Firelands stuff that came a little later - rebuilding that base and see the nature grow.

MoP: Jade Forest
It’s just… incredibly beautiful. Most of Pandaria is really.

WoD: Frostfire Ridge
It really felt like something new stepping in, it has some beautiful vistas and cool bases like that fallen giant turned into enemy stronghold and the Ogre tower you help take over is pretty dope.

Legion: Suramar
Flying over and seeing it from Dalaran it was just cool… Couldn’t wait to go there. Luckily the story didn’t dissapoint so all in all awesome.

BFA: Vol’dun
Big open zone, some cool ruins and pyramids. The sand looks really cool too, was looking at it the other day it’s actually beautifully done.

I just… really like big open zones I guess

Elwynn Forest is my ultimate favourite. No idea why, whenever I come back to WoW it’s because I am thinking of levelling a Humie in EF. And being on SWC Goldshire isn’t creepy. It’s EMPTY and NICE!

I love the Western Plaguelands too, both Horde and Alliance. Tanaris is beautiful, beautiful water and music but not too fond of Goblins.

Adore Sholazaar Basin for quests and scenery. Hyjal, Uldum… and Drustvar. Loove the story there 10/10.

Silverpine!

Silverpine Forest (Vanilla).
Moody and dark, with the quests going to Fenris Isle. That town south of Sepulchre, where the humans turn into worgen when the game enters nighttime. Always a pleasure beating-up that place.

Hillsbrad (Vanilla).
Battle of Hillsbrad was an excellent campaign for the Horde. Also Southshore provided plenty of opportunities to “lay the bone carpet” between it and Tarren Mill.

Winterspring.
There’s something lovely about the snow-covered landscape.

Un’Goro Crater (Vanilla).
The dinosaurs were everywhere, making it skinners’ paradise. The crystals operated the pylons, to give various buffs. The alliance were always ready for some action.

  1. Feralas
  2. Winterspring
  3. Suramar
  4. Aszuna
  5. Val’sharah
  6. Ashenvale
  7. Teldrassil (RIP)
  8. Mulgore
  9. Eversong Woods
  10. Plaguelands

Most of them for nostalgic reasons.
