m8 at least get corporal jeez man, you can’t decay below corporal (rank 2) so there’s no reason not to get it. It’s easy and only needs to be done once.
heck, to get private you only need 15 hks in one week. That’s like 1 bg etc

I play a game to have fun, not to chase a carrot.

Something the current Blizz dev team has great difficulty of understanding.
you can be a noob and get r14 that’s just how bad I think the system is
The bad thing about ranking is everything is about the decay. The decay is insane, 20% of your total RP per week.
I don’t know which developpers crafted this ranking system in 2004, but I guess he doesn’t know anything about basic mathematics and linear algebra. Probably a Web Dev. I doubt he didn’t realized his misstake .
“A few months” doesn’t sound like a long time, to me. I mean, I know it’s different for every class, but as a mage you’re only gonna keep a couple pieces until AQ - and even then, the R7/10 boots/shoulder combo is outclassed by Ringo/Cabal in BWL/ZG, and only marginally (and I rly mean marginally) better than T2.5/Cabal in AQ. Considering that the time it takes to get there is prolly gonna be almost as long as the time these items will last, I can’t see one doing it just for the items personally.
Depending on how quickly they release content. Yeah… you’re right.
The dagger is equal to Viscidus’ dagger (Sharpened Silithid Femur or smth). Which you’d likely never get, in which case you’d be going into Naxx still wearing your R14 weapon and probably using it for weeks in there before you get an upgrade.
But none of the ranking items are BIS until TBC. Except maybe the dagger for rogues? Not sure.
would be good to lose those mostly toxic tryhards.
Even assuming a SP weight for crit of around 16, for a Fire mage in AQ gear*, High Warlord’s Spellblade + Tome of Fiery Arcana nets you a virtual 72+16+40 = 128 SP, compared to Staff of the Shadow Flame’s 85+32 = 117 SP. If 11 SP, to you, is a worthy reward for the ordeal of R14, then you kinda value your time much more cheaply than I do.
And yes, I would give me a fair chance of getting either Staff of the Shadow Flame or Silithid Femur within a reasonable time frame. We’ll see who shall be vindicated by history^^
*calcs are a bit complicated here due to the fact it depends on how many mages there are in the group among other things, so it can’t be calculated as linearly as frost mages, but it’s still a fairly generous estimate - no theorycraft that I know of puts it above 18.
Thank you. And one last question. Can you confirm my suspicion that this discount only available on the character on which I actually got the rank … I have like 14 alts; so if I wanted rank 3 to get cheaper repairs I should gain - and keep - rank 3 on all of them? (I also suspect that you do not get to keep the discount, as it is not a one-time thing.)
ETA. I have tried reading the rules on official fora, but they are so tecnical and so “requiring basic knowledge which I do not have” (one word missing in my vocabulary) So that I give in after a realtively short time. You have to know at least a little bit for new knowledgde o be meaningful and stick. Trust me, I tried. I just can’t seem to absorb this.
I am wondering what such people do… I mean - if they can spend 18 hours per day farming honors, it is obvious they don´t have any job and family. And obviously they are not even students.
So they just keep eating cheap food and are collecting social support from government?
Not really sure if I would want to be part of that group…
The title is actually pretty meaningless. A lot of High Warlords / Grand Marshals have proven that in TBC when they couldn’t get above 2100 rating in Arenas.
Yeah that’s right, only characters who attain the rank get to enjoy the benefits, so altoholics are kinda screwed… Unless you get to keep the discount even if you lose the rank 3, which i can’t remember if that was the case or not.
My love for the game has returned since ditching the AV grind on the cusp of rank 9.
I couldn’t take sitting in AV all evening any more. I don’t think it’s worth it in any kind of metric
I actually started enjoying retail bg’s again after sh*tshow that was classic bg. Shocking.
Staff of the Shadow Flame is really rare tho, last time around in ‘real classic’ or w/e I was playing a mage in a guild that basically farmed BWL from soon after it released and we were still running it for a few items and alts when we were doing Naxx mainly, in that time we saw like 4-5 staffs.
Not every mage+warlock will have that staff a few weeks into BWL. Unless you are extremely lucky half your raid group won’t have it by the time you’re ‘done’ with BWL.
As long as I don’t end up walking into Naxx with Mageblade, I don’t see the issue. Either Staff or Silithid Femur will drop for me eventually before then, I reckon. And by then I’d rather replace Mageblade than HWL Spellblade.
