Rate your experience from the Mage Tower, 1-10
I’ll give it a solid 0,00001 / 10
Simply because they obviously don’t play their own game, and for a player like me, whom basically returned to play the game just to try these things out again, only to find out I had to farm new and old content with socket, Mage Tower doesn’t seem like it requires much other than good enough stats on your gear, special trinkets, enchants, pots that did not exsist in Legion itself, just a big mess.

1 for the SL mage tower.
Most unfun thing I’ve done in WoW.

Positives
- it’s fun to have some challenging stuff solo-wise
- it’s great that they made it timeless (you can do it later, even 4 expansions from now… the ground work has been laid well)
- this might sound as negative, but I think it’s positive: it showed issues with borrowed power systems - classes feel empty and weak without borrowed powers and some specs feel almost non-functioning (like Feral)
Negatives
- I believe difficulty-wise it wasn’t handled well, I feel that most difficulty comes from DPS checks rather than mechanics
- Balance is way off. It’s great we can revisit old items, but it’s stupid that good items in SL are actually garbage, because some slots cannot have socket etc.
I believe templated gear (no trinkets, same stats for everybody) would make it better
- Absurd cost to entry: consumbales. I believe it’d be healthier if consumables were disabled and MT balanced accordingly.
- It’s unclear how powerful items are because of scaling.
I absolutely get it. It may look good that you need to revisit old content and get consumables, professions and gear from past. That actually sounds like fun on paper, but to me it was frustrating experience.
Reward Design
- I believe it’s not that healthy to tie transmog to this. Transmogs are ways for players to express themselves. It feels bad, when you cannot, because it’s tied to something extremely difficult.
- I believe that reasonable rewards would be tabards or toys.
- Or if transmog is tied to this, it should be tuned down, so 30-40% players are able to complete it and it’s more like casual challenge (something equivallent to 1800 rating or +15 key- as I imagine it)
- I am generally not fan of multiple difficulties, but it could be something to consider, so more casual players can push themselves to get tmog reward, and higher difficulty for elite players to push themselves for tabards and just sake of it (people already try to do no consumables or bad gear run just for fun, players like that don’t need too much rewards, success is reward for them)

For me it is a clear:
8/10
Negatives:
-
Sockets/Enchants/Old gear: I would prefer if we got stat templates for our characters, as to avoid players feeling the need to farm old content/gear for the challenges. It would just feel better if we were given the “toolbox” (stats/abilities/gear) and did not need to worry about anything else apart from performance.
-
Difficulty: While I liked the overall difficulty of the Mage Tower, it is clear than some specs have it easier than some others. Given than none of the specs has a “free win”, you cannot exactly believe the disparity between a Holy Priest and Holy Paladin in the same challenge (just an example).
-
Availability: It would be a shame to only have it available every 6 months. I would love a way to have it available regularly.
Positives:
-
I believe it is the first time we had such challenging content for single players, even the original mage tower cannot be compared to the one we have right now, and I could not love it more!
-
Apart from 1-2 outliers in every challenge (either too hard or too easy), the difficulty was very well tuned. Having certain dps checks (archmage xylem, 2nd phase) and really trying to fund how to optimize the last % of the boss, and actually killing it, felt amazing.
-
Rewards: Really liked the transmog idea, since it was just a remake/recolor of already existing sets that anyone who did not like could skip completely. I believe it would be best if there was another way to receive the werebear model, as I can get the frustration of druid players that cannot get the tank encounter down, even if the “fel” variant was only available in the mage tower.

1 out of 10. It’s not like the Legion Mage tower and just like every system they’ve gone through with keeping/adding in patches later it’s gotten worse when implemented.
- It’s completely different challenge-wise for many specs/classes, so poorly tuned for each one.
- It’s tuned around being level 60 with renown but with certain stats needed for certain specs, or gems, old trinkets etc. Even though you can do it at level 45, it’s a way harder if you do so because you’re missing a talent, tons of ability synergies, and in some cases whole abilities you get on your way to 60.
- A lot of older gear makes such a big difference that you have to spend time on a bunch of your alts to help them out in the poorly tuned spec challenges especially.
- Consumables, enchants, being needed to get through the challenges for many specs/challenges and people gouging on price because it’s a ‘limited time’ thing makes it feel even worse.
- Certain challenges are way different/require completely different playstyles to get through now than from Legion because certain abilities/synergies and all from Artifact trees, Or Legendaries are missing.
- It brought out a lot of people being toxic about people to ‘get better’ but come to find out pretty much all of those players saying that found a way to ‘cheese’ the event with certain gear/stuff that scaled improperly from the start.

Like a solid 8/10 only due to some of them beign almost impossible for some specs before nerf.
0/10
Trash overtuned content that excludes everyone who can’t afford gear and consumables or doesn’t have the patience to wipe 500 times on top of wasting gold on repairs, it’s full of bugs, and you just get a couple lazy recolors (which 10/12 are straight up worse than the original appearance) and a fugly mount.

Completed all 7 challenges and I can rate it a solid 0/10
- Balancing is horrible
- Scaling is horrible
- Some specs are completely different from Legion and just don’t work anymore with their challenge
- Massive HP buffs for no reason
- For some specs it was buffed different, apparently random? (frost mage 30% vs MM hunter 100%+ when frost mage can do way more damage? excuse me?)
- Old sockets/consumables and gear abusing almost necessary for some specs
- Clearly shows how some specs are just horrible and unfun without borrowed power
- Some challenges were also mechanically changed compared to Legion
A complete disappointment.

Only bothered with druid as it is my main for years.
MT is a mess and made me unsub and wait for 10.0
Maybe it was Blizzs secret agenda to let us unsub and enjoy christmas

The score has a lot to do with the timing of the holidays and Endwalker.
had this MT released in like, March?
It’d be a 7/10
Edit: By the way, the score I don’t think about just how it affected me, because I’d call it a 10/10 since I touched it and I didn’t care after. The score is more towards how I’m seeing it affect players, specially those already in the edge of quitting. It’s really bad to just leave this to the holiday skeleton crew, like what were you thinking doing this?
