Realistically which version of Classic is for me?

So I mainly play retail and I played the original classic back in 2019 until the beginning of wotlk when everyone went crazy and asked for full gladiator gear from TBC to do Utgarde Keep.
From all the versions of classic I liked the most SoD since I believe its the true classic+.
My problems with each version:
SoD: it is ending and then what? We just gonna bench our chars. So the investment, doesn’t feel like worth it.
Cataclysm: I stopped playing WoW back in the day when Cata released and I don’t know how the expansion was. Now MoP will release and then what WoD? I don’t consider these expansions classic.
Classic Anniversary: It’s the same thing all over again with some positives like GDKP ban but other than that it is an inferior version of SoD. It’s appealing to me that it will go to TBC after and logically to WoTLK. But I believe its hype its gonna die fast.

Another thing is that I dont care about Raiding. Just dungeons, levelling and maybe some pvp.

Which do you think should I make my alt-mmo ?

I don’t think any of them seem to suit you, to be honest. You have valid reasons for not wanting to play any of them. It seems you want more of SoD, so maybe just wait for news on what they plan next. Who knows, maybe there will be SoD TBC?

I have some little hopium about this tbh. I think they screwed up big time with releasing another classic and splitting the community even more. Thats why i think they gonna pull the plug on sod and its gonna be like Era

People play what they want and they don’t play what they don’t want to. Era population was a fraction of what Anniversary is pulling and SoD still is popular but slowly winding down.

Hardcore mon.

big nope. this is why i didnt include it in the first place.

dont know what they are planning for anniversy edition so far seems same old classic wow but speed up

there alot people active so dungeons are not hard new group finder too is amazing. people complain bout layer system but have no issue with it. some ppl dont have patience wait for 10 mins or so monsters spawn. some do

often players forget there more ways to level in this game. then questing if want to quest same area proparly other horde or alliance members doing same quest join up with them

other then that ok

now downsides anniversy edition isnt a long term classic wow server like era. 12 months we get patch that give us tbc talents then 2 three mouths later we going to tbc. pretty short and sweet

era is the worst. every server is an alliance server. mostly 60-80% all servers some servers just dont have anyone on it period. cause of that no people with no people no content. and filled with gdkp losers who ruined og classic in first place chances of you ever getting gear never but gold perhaps thats about it

any server that has gdkp on it is pay to win i wouldnt do it. until blizzard makes the choices of fixing classic era merging servers banning gdkp from every single one of them.

i for one think layer server is better then era cause no gdkp and more group content

Just take SoD as great fun and as the “alpha” for Classic+. I bet that SoD is the try to find out what players would like in a really “fresh” version of Classic.

Since they also made some changes here I think they will satisfy those players who - since ages - want TBC Era and give the chance to keep the chars on TBC state while they probably nevertheless continue with Wrath.

In the meantime they hopefully work hard on a sensational Classic+ version.

Only a “retailer” would say that SOD is classic +. It´s just a cheap knock off of some private server.

SoD is not ending. They promised to keep the servers up. You can stay there.

SoD is not ending but the hype will go away after no more content is released. You will keep your character but what are you going to do with it? Run Naxx or whatever low quality “new” raid they come up with again and again.
Era is a good option but again what are you going to do with your character at the end. Run Naxx again and again? PVP is out of question because of OP Naxx gear players have.
Cata has some good content but it’s near its end and I agree MoP is not Classic anymore. Cata has few Classic leftovers but not MoP with the new talents. WoD Classic would be awful. Legion Classic could be good but it’s at least 3 years away and there is no point in playing inferior expansions waiting for it. It’s not even confirmed.
So I think Anniversary is the best option at the moment. And it will progress to TBC which is the most similar to vanilla but with far better class balance. And let’s hope there will be permanent TBC servers after the last phase.

Whilst I hope this for others too, do these era servers not simply fall under the same issue of “what are you going to do at the end?”

I have no interest in SoD myself, I never even rolled a character there. It was just an information for Agrylas.

I’m kind of in the same boat atm.

Currently there are no good choices to make as it is too late to start SoD and Anniversary WoW is pretty scuffed if you’re playing a hybrid class so…

I will simply wait for whatever (if anything) comes after SoD. :man_shrugging:

I mean if they dont release new content for SoD in the terms of new dungeons, 10 man raids, quests, items for sure it will die. If I didnt spoil myself with MoP remix maybe i would stick to cata and then mop just for the fun of it.
Anniversary seems to have the most people but going back to vanilla classic its a pain abilities-wise.

I do not fit the description above - I also play horde btw.

While I agree on the GDKP situation, I also believe there is an active, great community of commited Era players that have nothing to do with it. Era also offers a unique WoW experience, since it has no patches nor progression, and allows a player to play at their own time and not be on a constant catch up / rat race scenario.

Still, the people like you here constantly criticizing Era makes me thing that sharing these forums with you defeats the purpose of creating a strong Vanilla community.
