To be honest, this is essentially the root of most the recent upheavals. The vast majority of feedback, even during supposed testing phases like Beta, is being completely ignored.
Still screws Alliance with the removal of the Dalaran Crater portal. It now takes 6-7 minutes to get there from Stormwind. Horde in Orgrimmar(on the other continent) can get there in 1-2 minutes.
Alliance will just not bother with the seasonal events as 6-7 minutes for each character doing dailies is ridiculously excessive. I’ll have no problems as I’ve two accounts and mages on both but most players aren’t going to have that.
NO seasonal event is harder to get to for Horde. Just from looking at them I reckon about 70% of all locations (Eastern Kingdoms/Kalimdor) are more accessible for horde than alliance purely based on portals/flightpath flying time.
The only reason I wouldn’t mind is IF the old worlds are really used, but they aren’t, apart maybe for some quests if part of a war campaign.
I think, this really is their way of increasing playtime for players, I mean, it’s purely a money change for them, but they don’t seem to be aware they are really shooting themselves in the foot….and it seems they have their heads stuck in the ground, don’t listen to anything, and they’re not aware of their game gaving issues? They don’t see players walking away? And then they do this? They have to be really stupid or something.
Looks like if you complain hard enough and for long enough they will listen.
You hear that High elf wannabes, keep the meme alive.
There is a greater one.
In the classic Peter’s Evil Overlord List (The Top 100 Things I’d Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord) number 12 is:
One of my advisors will be an average five-year-old child. Any flaws in my plan that he is able to spot will be corrected before implementation.
Now, “an average five-year-old child” is not ideal for WoW, because of the 12 rating, but it seems pretty clear to me that the devs do things that sound good in their heads, within their internal echo-chamber, and then push stubbornly forward with them, when a panel of regular players could set them straight before they get implemented. They shouldn’t even get to beta. Or alpha. Or into the code or database.
It strikes me that they’re not walking through changes in design well enough from the various points of view of players. I’ve known that to happen in dev teams that were too far from their users.
I really hate how it was on PTR people were saying it is terrible change since portals to CoT, Dalaran Crater, Dark Portal, Wyrmrest Accord are really needed…
Do you listen to feedback AT ALL?!? Please tell me what is the point of beta and PTR when you will not change anything anyway!?
New portal rooms look nice. But I can’t stand them because you removed alot of portals for no good reason. You can’t even use them all until you reach a certain level. No iron forge portal, no vale portal and no COT portal.
No one is buying your excuses for removing portals. We know why you did it so drop your patronizing replies.
We all know why thy removed portals, it is because it is fun according to Ion’s metrics :
You’ve said Fun is the ultimate metric that drives the game forward. How do you measure fun?
If you listen to the Activision Earning Call and you hear MAUs, that’s Investor speak and not what the developers use. All they want to do is as engaging as possible. If there’s something that is over rewarding or has a risk/reward ratio that is out of wack, then they see participation rewards (e.g. The Mechanar Problem: In BC, it was the fastest, easiest dungeon).
Some other metrics are:
How frequently do you log in?
How long do you log in for?
What activities do people do?
Source : https://www.wowhead.com/news=290806.3/liveblog-of-the-march-21st-q-a-with-ion-hazzikostas
so Blizzard is measuring fun in how long you are logged in? that’s not too smart, maybe that’s the reason they don’t want flying ingame because it makes things take more time ‘but its not fun! Ion !’ if that is how you measure fun, you are only making this game worse and worse with that kind of logic
The biggest screw up from blizzard is in my opinion this:
its was claimed the portal room was for clean up, yet there sits a portal for Thunder Totem (for my HM Tauren)/Nighthold for NB Elfs/etc
why are these portals NOT in the portal room?
Because all the new races start in those locations. All those portals lead to Orgrimmar where they can start levelling. Many of the portals that have been removed still have one to Orgrimmar.
do you even read what I write?
I know why these portals exists still:
How can a new Highmountain Tauren use the portal room in Orgrimmar if you want to leave them stranded at Thunder Totem with no way of getting anywhere?
Well that Movie was on Channel 4 at weekend and when they walk through the Blasted Lands portal, they all seem to end up splatted the other side…so maybe Blizzard can bring new Portal action :))))
Only the alliance version looks good. The horde one is hella ugly and far too small for being able to fit more portals in the future.
Maybe the alliance one looks a bit better, but then on the horde side you can see all portals in a glance, on alliance you just have to run here and there…
It seemed though that the mage tower was round
Yet even the old mage tower turned into a corridor and not a circular room when you went through the portal
Indeed but this one is kinda in cross shape, more like a T. So instead of having a corridor with gates on each side (one from where were seemed to appear from) we appear in a middle of a T corridor: portals on each side and a gate straight ahead. It doesn’t feel the same at all.
Before it felt like the “carpet way” was going across the round room, it made more sense.
Are you trying to make sense out of a magical portal in a tower that transports you to a secret room that’s not in a tower?
The layout is fine. You go left you get the most recent expansion portals. You go right you get the older ones. Simples.
And it looks good.
This. They added the Thrallmar NPC hastily to give port to Hellfire due to their oversight and it just looks bad as its obvious that it was rushed when other locations have these fancy portals and NPCs. Can’t wait for the Caverns of time to only have a small NPC who you talk to in order to get ported instead of having a badass portal with two bronze dragonkin channeling.
At this point the only way are the single NPCs as the room is too small to ever afford more portals which is pathetic. This was such a blatant oversight that I’m shocked at their incompetence. Has Ion ever farmed caverns of time dungeons for transmog or leveled in Hellfire lol?
