So I was on the fence about TWW all the way until the this weekend. I decided to buy the Base edition only today.
Here are my reasons:
-
I don’t think TWW is going to offer much new in terms of exciting content/zones. The new race fell flat for me, the story seemed too emo, which makes me question the writing direction coming off DF. I think it’s going to be very average in terms of a story and immersion, therefore deserving of a base price. Which to me is still asking a lot for a subscription based system. I also hear people saying it’s a 1-2 button walk-through to level and it’s all over in a day or so, which is a huge letdown for me.
-
Pre-patch is what convinced me to buy it. The class mechanics are I think some of the best it’s ever been. BFA was too streamlined, SL was too bloated, DF was getting closer but not quite there but TWW from my testing of every class in the game in pre-patch feels quite sold and balanced for my taste. I think it will at least hold my interest for a few months.

I almost didn’t buy it all due to my experiences in DF. I purchased EA for DF, there were tons of people around at first, then it quickly dried off and I felt like the only person around for most of the leveling experience. Which to be fair, is kind of better, but it was a little too barren. Combine this with the experiences of queueing into a dungeon and having tanks zip through the instance, it quickly reminded me of the rat race that WoW has become for a long time. It’s almost not about fun, but dps meters, meta specs and fotm.
Hopefully, Blizzard will really achieve the potential of delves and give attention to the casual player/solo experience, not to mention PvP, which is why I play the game, rather than just invest all resources into Mythic/Raids. I hope, but I’m not betting on it, at least there’s a small chance though.
How about you? what version did you buy? did you choose to sit this one out? (I’m guessing not if you’re reading this) do you have high or low expectations for TWW?

I only bought it because my friends from Classic who had quit for Cataclysm decided to play. I bought the standard edition, so I have missed out on playing the launch with a lot of them, but they have also outgeared Heroic dungeons before they are even available so I will also miss out on that, but we will be able to do M0 and M+ together at least.
I wasn’t going to buy it. I’m struggling more with my eyesight and the game is getting harder to read in many places (the new spell book is illegible to me, unless here are options or an addon).
I was chatting with my friend about it and he mentioned some accessibility in the game now, such as a dragon will fly for you in some quests. Would have been better if I didn’t need to use Dragon Riding at all but they seem to want us to, at least Pathfinder is a lot better this time.
So I’ve played with the in game settings, made my resolution 1200 and set the character highlight on etc.
So I bought the base edition to give it a go. I’ll do the story. I like that I’ll get to see the raid bosses this time and with follower dungeons the story might make more sense. DF had a terrible story and since I didn’t do the dungeons and raids it was even worse.
I try out these delves, I probably won’t manage them at the highest level (depends on the mechanics that require dodging / avoiding / jumping etc.) or if there are timers (I can’t do timers).
Even so, this is likely my last expansion unless the Accessibility features get really good or medical science comes through for me.

What convinced me really to Buy TWW(which ill do tonight) is to be able to level to 80
I’m getting the standard edition. I’m generally opposed to pre-purchasing digital products and there was no benefit to doing so either for just the regular one. For most expansions I’ve gotten the CE for the physical goodies but this time (and for BfA as well) it wasn’t worth it, especially not with the outrageous shipping costs on top of the price tag.
I’m generally happy with, and look forward to, every expansion so it’s not even a question of if I’ll get it. There’s always things I like and dislike, the scale doesn’t tip too much to one side.

I bought the base edition of this expansion after leaving the game before the end of Shadowlands. It was too much and too little at the same time; a lot of frustration because of the inconsistent lore and character building, and no fun with the gameplay.
I came back for TWW because I want to experience the World Soul Saga from beginning to end. I’m looking at it as a new story with new characters rather than the continuation of the old one. That’s the best way I have found to minimize the impact retcons would have on my enjoyment of this new cycle. My expectations lorewise are pretty low as a consequence, I haven’t been rewarded at all the last time I’ve been hopeful. Gameplaywise, I’m already enjoying the new features that came with Dragon Flight (skipped because the Shadowlands letdown was too fresh in my mind, and I didn’t want to see how the writers would manage to butcher Wrathion’s characterization). I’m thrilled about the solo dungeons because I find it hard to enjoy playing instances with other people always rushing and insulting each other, that was a key factor in my decision to give another chance to this game.

I bought the base edition (Starting tomorrow is soon enough), because i enjoyed Dragonflight, and want to keep playing my main, see new places, kill new baddies, you know, the basic “WoW expansion”-spiel.
Base edition.
I think EA is a scummy move that hurts the game. I did not support it and it actually puts me off from the game. I am not exactly excited to jump in, though i will. My thoughts are on if this will be my last expansion if they keep going in this direction. It’s a strong argument to not carry on. The more they want to force themselves into my wallet, the more i want to take it away from them.

I enjoy the game well enough to want to experience TWW, but not so much that I was willing to pay for the epic edition. I’m also not a fan of the EA angle Blizzard went with, so not rewarding them for that decision in particular did feature somewhat into the decision.

On paper looks more interesting than DF and if I am going to try it, launch is the best time to do it.
Bought standard edition (cheapest)
I’ve played this game since 2004 and I’m not gonna stop now.
I bought the Physical CE because that’s what I have done ever since TBC.
I don’t own The War Within. I did buy the Epic Edition, but refunded it.
I will wait for the first round of nerfs & buffs before I buy it.
I still haven’t bought it. This would be the first WOW expansion I haven’t bought. I really disliked SL and DF, especially the whole dynamic flying thing. I dunno maybe I will buy the base game of TWW.

I bought it this morning (base edition) basically because if I don’t buy it I can’t play the game.
From what I’ve seen I like the story and the ambientation.
I want new raids and dungeons.
And I have 0 Interest on the “new” copypaste dwarf.
I will buy the base edition in September. I’m kinda busy atm.
Pleb edition. Starting tomorrow afternoon cos work. Missing /missed lots of stuff already, but this is the new norm onward i guess.
Just bought the base edition about 5 minutes ago.
If there is more EA nonsense next expansion i dont think i will buy any, at most if the game is heavily on discount during a sale

I pre-ordered Epic edition, and believe it or not, that was a mistake and I intended to buy Heroic. I didn’t notice that I had Epic until a few months after I ordered. It didn’t bother me tho so I kept it.
As a mythic raider, what I like about TWW so far is the return to heroic week. I never liked their move of removing it. Tier releases were incredibly stressful going straight to mythic week, especially Vault since that was the first tier. It felt insanely crammed for no good reason.
I’ve been buying the expansions since TBC. I keep saying I’ll stop, but hey. I guess I just like having the level cap lifted and being there launch night. Last time the game glitched out and I got stuck swimming in a river all night, so funny. I bought the regular pack, I never use any of the extra goodies so pointless wasting the money.
Interestingly when on disc I would buy two copies of each release. I did that all the way up to Cata then started digitally downloading. So I have a copy of Wrath still unopened. Pointless I know, but always brings back the memories. Happy days. Lets hope tomorrow is also a happy one. Fingers crossed.
