I wonder what would happen if they also let the Alliance into mercenary mode again.
Imagine if many Alliance players try to play as horde to win more, which makes the queues such that more Horde play Mercenary as Alliance so the the “Horde” get beaten by “alliance” enough that they stop playing with the assumption that one side is better than the other and so we end up having closer to 50:50 ratios.
PS: the factions in “quotes” are the opposite faction as mercenaries.

He has a point, you know.
You want the factions balanced, and people will naturally tend to join the same faction due to interconnected relationships extending out forever, so you have to “punish” the overpopulated faction to stop it - Blizzard chooses to make it look as if Alliance gets an advantage but it’s the same core idea.
Mercenary allows you to skip over a significant drawback to being Horde, which is currently necessary to have or everybody goes Horde.
This system was as big a problem when Alliance had it. It actually solidified my decision to go Alliance!

Maybe just get rid of factions inside bgs and give everyone a yellow and green flag or something like arena does. You can know who is the enemy and who is not.
Personally my reasons to be a faction varied over time.
I originally started as alliance in TBC prepatch.
When I decided to reroll from rogue to mage, I decided to be horde from now on.
I stayed horde and made several toons at which point it was the middle of Wrath where a RL friend made me move to alliance to play with them (ironically they did not play enough after that) and at this point I decided to stick with Allinace.
Now I cannot move to Horde anymore cause this guild suits me too much and I like the people there: Casuals who can still get stuff done to an extent.

We do have the bonus honor which they don’t get as merc
Anyway, here’s me in an almost full-draenor on both sides group, of which all Ally Draenor were mercenaries and all Horde Draenor were of the same guild.

Alliance is actually doing way better than horde in pvp at least from my experience

Remove faction barriers. Give players the same freedom the writers have with who gets to team up.
I’m having a super high winrate since the launch at least on Ally. First evening was 80%
