2v2 has always been my favorite pvp game mode. Especially when both teams are healer/DPS.
But that is just my experience of the game.
I think that allowing the players to choose their poison is the way to solve these issues.
Let’s look at csgo. You get to pick the map and you can join the que solo or with a team.
Correct me if I’m wrong here but the game then tries to match players together based on those choices. Eg grouped players with a map choice match are pooled together until you have 5v5 on the same map.
Picking one map that isn’t popular will increase the que time and picking dust2 will be insta.
Now having to consider rating in that makes the pool much smaller. But we can look at that later.
How can we use this in wow? Keep 2v2 3v3 and rgb but allow solo que in all of them.
2v2 = max 1 healer, no tanks. Able to que solo and select the role you want for a partner. Caster, melee, or healer.
The game should try to match players that are already a party of 2 together first and so on.
3v3 = max 1 healer, no tanks and the same idea.
Rgb = 1 tank required, 2 healers required and no limits the 7 DPS in terms of caster/melee meaning you can pick 7 melee if you want.
The game should try to match groups with the same party sizes first then fill after some time if needed.
Now I know the que times would likely increase in most cases with this idea, but it would be the players choice mostly and the current meta.
Rating is going to make que times long but not as much as you may think. Look a SS ques 2k+. Sometimes only 15min.
And that’s not even with the addition of players that don’t play SS.
Final addition to this would be to test out how it would work if you could pick the class and role you want as your teammate/s.
I think testing this on a ptr would be very interesting. A small pvp only arena and bg ptr would be a good idea.
