Reputation grind for dragonflight

Which genius thought it was a good idea to lock a lot of the dragonflight campaign behind a reputation grind. The grind itself is so so boring, each factions needs a specific amount of rep to get the chunk of the campaign but getting the rep for the factions is tedious, quests outside of the campaign quests give so little rep that you have to spend days doing them. Please please please either make the questlines available from the get go or lower the rep level they become available at.

they want you to play at least month longer

if you finish campain in 1 day you get bored and quit too fast

There are a whole load of players who have never done the extra storylines that were renown gated.

The main problem is that a LOT of recipes are also rep gated, because it’s so much fun to place those 5 totems every other day.

I’m still at renown 2, some 3, since the start of dragonflight. I guess I’ll never play through the campaign.

Thanks, Blizzard.

I really don’t understand these type of posts. Reputation is handed to you, by just playing the game and doing content passively for god’s sake. It’s not like you have to pickpocket mobs to get Heavy Junkboxes and turn 5 in for 75 rep.

You do the story, you do some WQs, you do some hunts, cooking, some digs (which is all content btw), and you’ll reach max renown in no time. I really wasn’t pushing / minmaxing it, and I got max renown 2-3 months playing, and now I’m not even participating in content, and yet I’m receiving paragon boxes.

Don’t understand it either.
Took exactly 1 month to max the first 4 to renown.
And loamm when it arrived it took about 1 day per renown, so it was also quickly made.
And I’m really not the big farmer.
but I don’t do m+ either, so maybe it’s because I then have the extra time for renown?

Indeed
If you play the game, and not talking about mindless grindig of dig sites, treasures, etc, but a WG here and there, the side questes, event, like Hunt, Feast, Siege, weekly, in 1-2 month 3 at top even with a 2-3 hours a day play you ding max level with the factions
I just hate the Caverns - it gives me Maw PTSD - and the mole poeple so only do the weekly so thats quite low, but if I wouldn’t avoide that content probbaly would have maxed it out
Same with the “sub-factions”

i dont even know how to get more rep for any of the factions.
Didnt do anything relevant to those factions since i dinged 70 on all characters.
i found out i have to reach renown 13 for blacksmith recipes but oh well i just cba and no idea how to even get this done quickly

I’ve reached Duelist in 2 seasons in a row, I got KSM too, but I’m still at Renown 4.
When does it start being handed to me, exactly?

Reputation is only granted by doing casual content (read: boring content with 0 challenge, only grind)

I play normal game modes that are fun and bring some decent challenge. Those give 0 reputation.

Since when did high end PVE / PVP activities award reputation for the major story factions? I gave a list of activities what you do to get rep, but if you’re stuck doing boring keys and PVP over and over, that’s your choice. There’s plenty of content out there to do. If you don’t like it / refuse to do it, that’s on you.

And while we’re at it, why would people even want reputation and renown? It’s not tied to anything, but cosmetics this time around.

IIRC, around WOTLK.
Tabards weren’t a reward back then. You could equip them to gain reputation in dungeons.

It was a good system.
As for the rewards, yes, it’s the cosmetics that we want. Basically all dragon colors are tied to reputations.

It would make sense for challenging content to grant reputation, since it’s harder than just killing a bunch of world content monsters that only deal auto attack damage for 3% of your HP bar once every 2 seconds.

Not everyone plays the same way you do (or how I do, for that matter).

This is a friend:-

He has been playing since launch. He will never cap any renown.

He absolutely loves that he doesn’t have to either. On the other hand, he couldn’t care less about any story or missing quest lines because they are renown capped.

Story that need a certain level of renown is really a bad idea. Especially the one from Dragonscale Expedition where you need to reach renown 24… Sometime, Blizzard won’t learn.
May be in the future Blizzard will introduce tokens like SL to catch-up renown levels.

Heroics are not high end pve content. I remember the tabards, and I agree it was a very good system, however a few things:

  • Heroics were useless after Naxx opened, and after you got enough badges. This essentially meant, that you had to ‘grind’ reps with doing dungeons for no other purpose than rep. I don’t find this such a good design, and I prefer the open world content over this.
  • Raids that are ‘high end pve content’ never awarded anything, apart from a few exceptions, and these reputations were useless apart from a few gear pieces (Ashen Verdict, Avengers of Hyjal, Throne of Thunder rep).
  • In wotlk, world content was pretty much non-existant. The only thing we had was the Argent tournament, and it only gave rep for major city factions so it was useless pretty much if you wanted WOTLK reputations.

But your friend is making things clear - he clearly doesn’t have a need to cap reps, and he doesn’t care about them. If he would care, the list of activites is very large and I believe he would participate in them.

Maybe my opinion is a bit tinfoil hat, but I will stick to this. Reps are 100% optional in DF. They are obtained with world content and with activities that award it. This is content, and someone wasted resources and time to bring them to the game. I’m not saying I like it or dislike it, but it’s something that’s available for you to do. Getting a tabard, that would net you 1k rep for a m+ clear, would totally invalidate this effort, just because someone doesn’t want to do anything other than push keys.

Everything reputation-related is easily among the worst parts of Dragonflight. It’s a fail on every single level:

  • The grind itself is boring and slow.
  • The story is gated for absolutely no reason.
  • They are again, not account bound because Blizzard is terrified of account-wide reps.
  • Profession recipes are again, tied to reputations and require each alt to grind them anew.
  • The cosmetic rewards are ugly and stupid.
  • The gear rewards are completely pointless for everyone, even the world quest-only type of player.
  • The only point of the account-wide unlocks is doing their respective world quests faster, which only gives you more rep because the factions are as established, useless.

For sure, the only reason I’m staying subbed is to see what that dastardly Explorer’s League is doing.

Your answer is basically: “It NEVER happened, except when it happened”.

In any case, even if it didn’t ever happen, it’s irrelevant.
Just because something never happened doesn’t mean it shouldn’t ever happen.

Women being able to vote “never happened” before the 1950s.

In my subjective view, it’s also something that shouldn’t happen. Here’s my reply on why (replied to Puny):

If it will happen or if it won’t happen, I don’t really care about it. I will explore the content the game offers to me, especially reputations. I just find it abit cheap, that they put so much things in the game, and someone would invalidate it with running a few keys of Freehold, that has been in the game since 2018, while he would whine how there’s nothing to do in the game (and I don’t mean you, it’s not personal, just speaking in a general way).

2-3 months is not " in no time" lmao, and that only applies to the type of player that naturally does all sorts of things regularly.

One of the stupidest arguments on these forums that gets perpetuated ad nauseam. People who cry “there is nothing to do” refer to the type of content they are interested in doing. For example, I find it boring af that DF only launched with 8 new dungeons like Shadowlands, while the previous 2 expansions had 10+.

Telling people there are all these world quests they could be doing (also fewer of them than ever before btw), when they are interested in raids or dungeons, doesn’t make them entitled idiots who don’t know what they want, you just offered them content they have no interest in and asked them to be grateful.

Even if there is such a specimen of player that used to only be satisfied with mandatory power grinds and is now bored because there’s nothing to do, it means there is nothing to do that THEY care about. Even I had much more fun doing WQs when we had emissary quests and when WQ gear could titanforge so as to not be completely useless on new alts.

The current system separates the high-end power grind into tryhard content that they also keep making harder every expansion, and the completely pointless world stuff that has 0 power tied to it.

There’s a middle ground to be found.
Open world content should grant the most reputation. It should be the fastest and most efficient way.

But would it really ruin the game if 1 dungeon awarded 100 reputation, and 1 arena victory awarded 25?
