Request: official "Hardcore" servers

Amongst the WoW Classic community it has emerged a sub-community playing by “Hardcore” rules.

I am personally not certain who started this and when, but I believe it is inspired by Diablo which supposssedly has “Hardcore” servers.

The Youtuber “Kargoz Gaming” has been streaming a lot playing by these rules and the “movement” has gathered a lot of traction and a discord channel called “Classic Hardcore”.

This post is mainly an attempt at getting Blizzard’s attention to this as there are a lot of players eagerly wanting servers by these rules.

Many players (including me) has reported a newfound interest in the game because of this.

Is this hardcore play happening on PvE servers? If the hardcore community can organize and gather on a single server that could perhaps show blizzard it’s worth caring about that niche.

Being active on this forum, creating threads to organize hardcore runs etc, could also help show them that there is a large enough part of the community interested in playing with a hardcore modifier. Discord is great to organize, but if you hide yourself from the devs, they don’t know you exist.

kargoz is really just a joke
he is running greens, talents etc, claiming no one ever hits 60 by his rules. The only hardcore on his part is never die untill 60.
However some one claimed on this forum the real deal back in oktober playing rogue the real deal ironman challenge. imo that is an achievment.
I am running arround both off this challenges and we def not need a seperated realm to do so.

Gutrot was much more impressive in Vanilla - he leveled to 60 using absolutely no items.

It’s mainly a PvE thing currently yes. I believe there are mainly 4 different Guilds on 4 different servers per now. One for Ally and one for Horde on EU and NA

What the OP is asking for is a server where if your character dies once, it simply becomes unavailable to play any more. Need to roll a fresh character. At least that’s how it works in Diablo.

The Iron Man challenge has been around at least since 2012, and Blizzard has never taken any notice of it, other than honouring our heroes and an ocasional helping hand.
I am one of the - almost - original Irons, I never made it to the top, but I’ve played Ironman from 2012 (before Kripparrian made it to 85 as the first ever) til launch of Classic. I now have more iron toons in Classic as well, in old style guilds as well as in a Kargoz-inspired guild, and yes compared to the strict rules and almost legalistic mentality of the original challenge, they are a bunch of wannabes. But I love them for their breath of fresh air and enthusiasm. I like it, and I play there by stricter, IMC-inspired rules, which is fully accepted.
I totally agree with Grimbald that special servers are not needed - I would not go there, as sometimes you ‘fall in love’ with a character and want to play them as normals after they died, or you would like to send speial items to non-Iron toons on the same realm.

I doubt there are enough players for even one such a server.

Yeah would be real stupid to make an Iron Caracter on a PvP realm wouldn’t it
It has been tried several times even with great prizes promised the first to reach a set level and max level. I never heard of anyone pulling it off.

The OP doesn’t specify what he means by “hardcore” but i’d warmly welcome a server where all content (not just raids) was tuned up quite a lot.

Or they just take a leaf out of OSRS’s book and just add an NPC that gives you the opportunity to enable it for yourself instead of dedicating an entire server to it.
In fact Blizzard should take a lot of leaves out of OSRS’s book since they’re pretty much the best example out there of how to provide a “vanilla experience.”

OSRS has a system like that? That could work as well. Though I would personally prefer a dedicated server

What you need is to find yourself a nice cosy private hardcore server - or go back to retail where you have a choice of difficulty

WoW is a subscription service - funding specialist server would - quite clearly - give a minority a resource heavy implementation diverting funds from the wider community

It is also - A GAME - if it is too easy for you divert your attention elsewhere

It seems that there are significant minority who believe that ‘the elite’ have more rights than the casual

It does not work that way - casuals pay more subs - I imagine bots pay more subs - than you do

I think lot of ppl mixing Ironman and Hardcore, HC is just playing game as you would normally, but if you die, you can not resurrect like in Diablo.

Well, to be fair I see way more casuals thinking they’re special and the game should be shaped and revolve around their personal needs than the opposite. People need to realise that no matter if they’re casuals or elitists, they’re still just a drop of water in the ocean.

I can’t agree with that because very few causual players raid - they may get in a pug or 3 but in reality folk quickly understand that you need consumables to raid even within social guilds

The main projected philosophy on the forum is that - this is too easy make it harder - or BWL was cleared in 40 minutes etc.

These are exceptions - very specific groups using very specific min/max

For 95% of players in guilds downing Rag is still a creditable achievement - those who would argue otherwise are most certainly playing the wrong game

As I said - back to Retail Mythic chaps - have fun

What I was trying to say is that the majority of change requests on this forum come from entitled attitude casuals rather than what you have called the elite.

I would agree that casuals do complain about the wider game in general - and probably a lot miss LFR in retail - one thing to be carried by strangers you will likely never see again - another entirely to be carried by the percentage of players that pug on a realm or by a guild

But calls for enhanced tuning or raids do not come from that quarter - nor do calls for earlier release of new raids

A hardcore server sounds absurd to me.

How’re you supposed to complete Linken’s chain quest if you can’t die? Or get BRD key? Or fight Vaelastrasz?

This game was built around the fact that you can die and come back to life, unlike Diablo.
