Request: Pointed Ears - Minor TWW Spoilers

(First time Forum post, please be merciful.)

In the upcoming expansion, we have Pointed Ears for Human races (to depict Elven heritage) - Human and Kul Tiran. Viewable on Wowhead Dressing Room, these are currently an NPC-only customisation option, and it’s possible they will remain that way. That means the pointed ear option would not be available to players, and I think that would be a great shame.

They could already be intended to be released, but on the off-chance they aren’t; this post is to request these customisations become available to players of the Human, Kul Tiran and Worgen (Human form) races.

Reasons I think it should be available to players:

Firstly; the Half-Elves of the Eastern Kingdoms.
Lore-wise, there is plenty of precedent for half elves to exist. Since the Troll Wars, humans and High Elves have intermingled, creating the race we know as half-elves. Notable half elves have existed within the lore dating around 2,800 years, from as early as Alodi, the first Guardian of Tirisfal, to the current generation of Windrunners; Arator, Giramar and Galadin. Half-elven is also the chosen visage of the Blue Aspect Kalecgos, for the reason of: “I chose a visage that is half-human and half-elf: a blend of mortal worlds, as I try to be a blend of our world and theirs.” In summary; half elves aren’t impossible or deemed too uncommon.

Secondly; the Hallowfall Arathi.

Descended from the Arathi Empire when Humans and Elves were first allies, this empire slowly sprang into existence, developing to what we see in the Alpha; a race of half-elven people.

Granting the Pointed Ear customisations of the Arathi to players would allow them to depict this race - without need of any overhauling game systems like an Arathi Allied Race. Just an ear option would, in this case, suffice. It would allow players to embrace these people in the upcoming expansion very easily, and be able to play as them as we proceed through the expansion and the World Soul Saga.

Personally, the more I heard of the Arathi people, the more I wanted to make a character. With their amazing looking armor, mounts, tabards and weapons being player obtainable, all that remains to be Arathi is this ear customisation, which are simply an in-game customisation not yet selectable on player-client.

Given it’s a relatively small addition, I figured it may be worth asking for as a community. We can at least let the Devs know it’s a wish we have.

Thanks for reading! I’d like to hear what other people think; do you agree that they should be usable by players? Do you have, or would you make half-elf characters you would use this customisation on if it were available? Please respond!

I am always of the opinion that character customisations that let you express yourself in the world as a character you would be passionate about is a plus, and i would personaly make a character that is half elven simply because its a very cool concept and i can see my hunter or warrior fitting well with it!

in short, yes i most assuredly feel they should be an option!

Should totally be a thing. Will help inject a little more character into our toons, besides, what would be the downside! Dooooo it!

As an elf supremacist rper i find those creatures disgusting

Totally agree, the more options we have the better imo.

This looks like an amazing option, and if it isn’t currently slated to become available to players, that seems like an oversight. Even if we do not get it in the initial patch, this would absolutely be a fantastic addition in a later one. Like OP said; it’s lore-wise sound, there is plenty of precedence and there are no cons to adding this.

Please, Blizz! Let me make Arathi characters!

Id absolutely use these if I could. Would allow for some more rp opportunities, and more customization is never a bad thing!

Yes definitely. The more customisation the better. Pointy ears for all please!

hopefully more than 90% of High elves are Blood elves and we dont merge with filthy humans like the 2 sisters

shame shame shame

It’d be such a nice feature to have, it’s not that disruptive but I’m sure it’ll make people happy to have a lil’ more customization.

I think this could be amazing for RP realms and rpers to be able to have more ways to custom their chars.

I have seen Worgen players on Twitter/Reddit state they’d love it on their worgen’s human form to appear more Feral, like Heroes of the Storm Genn!

…out of curiosity, what aspect of her do you find to be ‘ridiculously pretty’? To my eyes, as a gay guy, whoever designed her bent over backwards to make her as unattractive as possible. For starters, she’s missing an eye but she’s also very scarred. She’s more androgynous and masculine than feminine as well.

I would have thought the likes of Jaina Proudmoore would qualify more as ‘ridiculously pretty’ but each to their own, I guess.

Faerin is just another added woke npc, non-canon, that i guess it made for replace anduin they’ll kill because he represent evil patriarchy. To put her the new dark skin, disabled, pointy ear but human new queen of humans.

Well I don’t mind there be half-elves in the game. My main can have rounded ears until the day when thinner humans becomes available. Altough they should technically have thinner humans, as “the ears” shouldn’t be the only thing that was past over between the Humans and Elves mingle. There should be thinner humans but maybe the rounded ears for the High/blood/void elves is meant to be the Thinner half-elf human. Would have preferred a new body model for the humans that is thinner but I quess rounded ears for elves will have to do.

But I think this is more of fan service than actual lore. If there was so many Half-elves they would have existed long ago and we would have seen them everywhere in wow in all the Alliance areas. But through out wow game life there has only been 4 maybe 5 half elves and nothing more. And the was before the Arathi was all humans as they all were Barbarians, just like the Vrykul. Believed in the same gods as the Vrykul. And does not add up that these Humans/Half elves left the shores of Eastern Kingdoms 50 years ago…way too short of time as the Arathi kingdoms have existed way longer, well before 50 years ago as Thoradin was the first Arathi King, gathering all the Human tribes under one banner and he lived 1000 years ago. At some point the Arathi empire became smaller kingdoms like Lordearon, Stormwind, Gilneas and Dalaran etc. So for it to make sense these humans or Half-elves must have left way longer than 50 years ago otherwise all the humans kingdoms and Silvermoon would have known about these Arathi. But there is no record either about these Humans/Half-elves from either Stormwind, Lordearon, Gilneas or Silvermoon. So “No one” knew about these humans or Half-elves ever existed. In the Old RPG book there was one about large humans (Probably size of Kultiran humans) that was still barbarians that went south to Stranglethorn vale and lived there for a time, then disappeared. But that lore was removed/retconned long ago. Also those Elves that taught humans magic. Well They helped build Dalaran and stayed there, They went nowhere else. Its possible the elves in Dalaran mingled with the humans but they wouldn’t be that many Half elves.

But it is as I said for many years that Blizzard change the lore each expansion based on the “Story” they have written…its why nothing makes sense anymore.

quite a lot of… questionable takes here for “should do you want this npc customisable ear option to be playable.”

i think we should break down all barriers from npc-locked customisation to player-available.

-and- the lore holds up! alodi from the original guardian comics is the first historical half elf, thousands of years old. plenty could’ve existed since.
its a great precedence!

If the Arathi have these ears, go right ahead. Makes sense.
