Respeccing needs to be cheaper

It is fine if you are minamaxer who use guides on how to setup their class and never needs to respec, if you are normal human who like to test things out , or are new to game, it is impossible to do it, you are basically locked in your talent tree.

Level 3 rogues - one subtlety for PvP, one sword combat for PvE and one dagger combat/assasin for PvE.

You will find that the min-maxing crowd is the most incensed about the high respec costs.

A good spec helps, but it’s not mandatory.

As for testing, the game is a RPG, game knowledge and thinking things through are just as legitimate as hands-on testing.

If respec costs were lowered we’d need to introduce a new gold sink

it almost never works like that, one thing is to crunch some numbers, another get to see how it actually will effect your gameplay in changing environment, I did not say that it is mandatory, I said it is just made to expensive for low levels to even be possible to do it.

I’m not talking about numbers crunching, things like target-dummy spreadsheet dps are completely irrelevant while leveling.

I’m talking about paying attention to how your character plays out, and envisioning how a talent adds or takes away from that, maybe with some help from a community website or a friendly fellow player. That exercise is enough to rule out most of these test builds.

When before you even get your first talent point, as a mage you realize that frostbolt slow and nova are key abilities, you don’t need to try out every talent combination to realize that augmenting your frost skills is the way to go.

You have 3 skill trees, you can’t afford to even see how they play out, that is silly, well I am not saying like it is huge deal, but it is just stupid that you are basically locked in your skill tree .

You can. You need a total of 16g to test all trees.

If to you it sounds too much, I guess that’s part of the challenge the game throws at you.

In an RPG difficulty comes from more than just button mashing.

It is precisely Retail design that sees any challenge that isn’t button mashing as an obstacle in the way of fun that needs to be made non-factor so that players can enjoy the true game.

Whatever, if you think that someone is going to throw 16 g around before level 40 you are crazy.

I actually agree, some classes can just be one spec that suits them for PVP and PVE, where as other classes are crippled into only going a PVE spec because of the costs.

Pretty sure those that are hardcore about min maxing can afford a mere 50 gold :stuck_out_tongue:

Haha, oh I feel you there. I have a low level mage with 1 talent in the wrong place and not enough money (yet) to buy a respec. It’s going to have properly set talents so much better, though.

Anyway, this is what vanilla was. It has its reasons to be this way. Don’t change anything or it won’t be vanilla anymore. It really is that simple.

edit: reasons have been discussed to death so not into debating about that anymore.

No one cares about your casual limitations, retailfrog. Boohoo game too hard widepeepoSad

With diremaul comming out October 14, 2019 it’s ~1 hour spendt grinding for the 100g to spec to raid and back once per week.

If you want to two different specs that’s not unresonable at all.

No.

No.

Short answer: No.

Long Answer: No, just pick a spec you like and stick with it, you were supposed to actually have one spec you go in Vanilla, not change it every 5 minutes.
Back then most people never changed specs. you knew Steve over there was a Tank Warrior, you knew Susan was a Shadow Priest and Hand rolled a fire mage.

And that stayed the same unless in some rare cases.

Does it cost like +10 g every time you want to respec? (10, 20, 30, 40, 50 etc?)

I belive first one is 1 gold, second one 5 and from 5 it add 5 gold each time to a maximum of 50, but i could be wrong

This is correct.

Also:

Since [patch 1.11] there is a decay in the cost of such talent respecs:
The cost to unlearn talents will now decay over time. This cost will be reduced by a rate of 5 gold per month to a minimum of 10 gold.
