Rest in Peace, Brigante

Very sad to hear about Brigante’s passing, and I felt compelled to come back and make a post when I heard.

I remember him leading the Sun Hawks during the various RP-PvP campaigns that I attended some years back. He always had a presence during them, and sometimes there came with that some controversy. That said, he seemed very earnest about RP, which is all you can ask of a roleplayer, and he seemed like a decent skin behind it all. I’m aware he was very well liked by the players who were closest to him.

RIP Brigante, best wishes to those who were closest to him as well.

Resubbed to post in this thread and attend the memorial.

Even though we knew it was coming, I still can’t believe you’re gone. The forums and the discords we were in together won’t be the same without you. Reading the posts from so many people, it’s clear that you touched so many lives.

I hope no one minds, but I took some of the stories shared here (as well as some memories of my own) and put them together into a poem.

For Brigante

As we gather here together
In memorial of a life’s sad end
We remember Brigante:
A man, a Sun Hawk, a friend

RP was your one true love
In game, on paper or out in a field
Your wit and your way with words
Were the greatest weapons you had to wield

A staunch defender of Argent Dawn
Whether by scathing words or bow
You’d tell disruptive streamers
Exactly where to go

Your passion was infectious
Encouraging others to try RP
You helped many take their first steps
Into a world of fantasy

The campaigns that you took part in
Will be remembered by those who were there
The love and energy that you put in
The knowledge, the experience, the care

You put so much effort and thought
Into every forum post you made
Even though your wordy walls of text
Made every response arrive delayed

“Brigante is typing”
Is a phrase we saw frequently
As we braced ourselves for a long post,
A story or some witty repartee

You loved to argue with idiots
And give them a piece of your mind
But to those who engaged you earnestly
You always responded in kind

Your distinctive voice we all knew well
From dropping into Discord randomly
And regaling us with wonderous tales
Before realising we were running a key

You had a story for every occasion
From werebadgers to bees
And no matter how many times we heard them
They never failed to please

Every community you were part of
Was better for your presence there
And we’ll all feel the loss
Of your words, your jokes, your flair

The legacy you leave behind
Is a life lived extremely well
Filled with fantastic stories
Which we’ll all continue to tell

You’ll live on in the memories
Of friends and those who care
For when we look inside our hearts
We’ll always find you there

Now this is how you write a poem. Your writing skills never fail to amuse us!

If that day happens to come (hopefully a very long time from now), I’m certain it will be as much missed as Sun Hawk’s walls of text.

That makes me wonder… has he managed to tell more than a single story to ol’ Bwonsamdi over the course of these four days?

Oh well, who am I to doubt he’ll be able to keep the Loa of Death’s attention for an eternity!
