Hello. Like the title says, Is Retribution Paladin good? Will I do good dps? I wanna dps, I like paladin and I kinda wanna stop making new characters. Will I be fine as a Ret paladin? From what I’ve read, I’m better of making a warrior, but is Retribution Paladin really THAT bad? Thanks in advance
Depends on what you call “Good”. You won’t be able to compete with other dps classes in raids. In dungeons you’ll do just fine, same with non-organized pvp.
Well, will my damage be way worse than other dpses?
Yeah. You can look up some statistics here.

Right thank you. I think I’m just better off rolling Warrior but then the question would be who looks cooler, dwarf or human. Or I might just go hunter
Wait a minute, why base your class choice on their dps performance in raids, is that the only thing you’re interested in?
Paladins are top-tier healers, so you can raid just fine if you respec sometimes.
Holy is only build you can play in raids, tanking is nice for dungeons and dps is fine.Ret can be good in pvp and hunters are nice for raid/pvp
Actually no I don’t care about being the top dps at all, what I actually base myself off the most is looks lol. Yeah I thought that I could dps and then if needed I could try and heal
Then let me offer you this: paladins have the coolest looking gear in the whole game.
Look, I’ve played paladin for a while - you can heal in raids and respec to ret for pvp, or you can use a hybrid spec that can do both decently well, there are tons of options.
Don’t choose your class based on a certain spec’s performance or something, base it on the general playstyle and class fantasy.
True… But then I kinda do hate healing a bit. Might just have a think about it
You’ll be “meh” for general PvE, you’ll do lower dps than other more focused classes.
You’ll be decent in PvP, you’ll have a ton of utility (but all that plus more is also avaible to a holy, which is pretty much more useful but still)
You might need to work hard, prove yourself, get all the edge you can get, gather all consumables, pots etc. etc. in a raid and even then you’ll unlikely to see the very top of the list, but still you could find a spot in raid guilds that might wanna bring a single retlol.
Ultimately, play what makes you enjoy the game the most. Every class has ups and downs they have to struggle with.
Yes, your DPS will be bottom tier.
With the current easy raids, you will most probably be able to find a decent guild and do MC/Onyxia weekly even as Retribution, as paladins are scarce, but they will bring you along for your blessings, not for your DPS.
Come AQ40 and Naxxramas, your guild may start struggling and wiping a lot and that’s when you will start hearing complaints about your low damage and being a waste of a raid spot. So have your healing gear all sorted out by then and be ready to respec to Holy. Once you have Naxx on farm, you may start thinking about going back to Retribution, if your guild is cool with that.
Healing is great. Having some experience in a relatively hardcore guild, being a healer is far less burdening in terms of raid preparation than being a dps, especially warrior.
Being the guy who literally saves lives in raid feels very rewarding, as well as being very efficient with your mana and knowing you can keep your heals coming for a long time, there’s a lot of good stuff about being a healer.
I respect healing and healers, but I don’t think it’s for me. In any game I play, I never mained support
Don’t let your dreams be memes pal.
Don’t let your dreams be memes pal.
paladins dont have any cool gear other than the t2.5 set. t1 is ugly for all classes, paladin t2 looks like something a special kid made out of cardboard for halloween and t3 plate is all ugly.
Say wutt??
Lightforge set, baby
take a close look at it. 3 polygon helmet and shoulders with swords taped to them. looks ridiculous. it could look good if the leggings werent so ugly to top it all off
