Not gonna go on a massive wordy rant (check my last comment at the bottom for my main point) but long and short of it, I started playing retail again as I’ve been playing classic since it’s launch and really just waiting for TBC to come out.
Not properly played WoW since MoP days when I got burnt out on dailies and rep etc and have only really just kept my chars levelled up since.
I just can’t find any enjoyment in retail anymore though.
Levelling and world content is just ridiculously easy and streamlined now to the point it’s just dull and unfulfilling. Just seems like chores to do rather than being engaging and an adventure.
dungeons and raids especially LFD/LFR are just hilariously void of any enjoyment.
The whole game is just a loot piñata where loot is thrown at you for EVERYTHING which kinda just kills the whole achievement of getting loot - in classic it’s an awesome feeling when you finally get a bit of loot. especially if it’s a major upgrade and it feels like a real milestone for your character.
And for that reason there is no real connection to any of my characters anymore, I used to feel attached to their individuality and their specific quirks and roles. Retail just feels like I can just use any char/class and its just the same old thing.
And as others have said, what’s with all the systems and stuff?
I feel like the game and Blizz (activision) have totally lost their way.
Isn’t Blizzard’s coughactivisioncough motto ‘Gameplay first’?
instead of constantly adding loads of stuff to game, akin to throwing a bunch of turd at the wall and hoping to see if any of it sticks, how about introduce PROPER and well designed gameplay?
Vanilla & TBC etc didn’t exist by loads of managers sitting around in meetings going over engagement metrics and spreadsheets and coming up with hair brained ideas of things that might keept the players playing…
They designed a true gameplay experience and it was the KING of MMO’s.
Gameplay will keep people playing. Not a plethora of annoying and exhausting systems and dailies/garrisons etc.
Then keep adding quality content. Like they did with TBC and Wrath.
Retail now is just a soulless mire of tiresome crap that is designed to keep people playing that don’t really enjoy the game anymore. Just mice in a wheel that have nothing else better do to than keep running in the wheel.

If you don’t like retail, you can play classic, especially now that tbc classic is coming soon.

If you don’t enjoy the game then don’t play it. I play the game because I enjoy it.

The game has changed massively over the years, some of it for the better, some of it for the worse.
Some people enjoy it’s current state and some people don’t. The only simple answer to people who don’t enjoy it is to simply not play, or to play retail/TBC

To each their own, the thing I love most in this game is raiding with my friends that I have known for years. If we cleared raids in like 30 minutes like in Classic I would get bored very quickly.

u clear raid in 30 mins in classic if u prep for hours to get consums and wb
if u and ur friends would play classic casually, raids could last way longer. its just ppl need to feel they gotta min max a 15 y old game

You know top-end people in retail tend to clear completely new raids(on the same difficulty, which would be normal) very quickly anyways so it’s kind of weird to compare the top-end speedrunners to the overall community as you mention ‘raiding with friends’ is what you enjoy. Still plenty of guilds in Classic that haven’t cleared raids that were cleared by top-end day 1.
Though for OP I disagree with the way you go about your points and your general wording. But yes, they are vastly different games now and if you like the more old school RPG nature of classic in comparison to retail all for ya. I know I enjoy a lot of stuff in classic, but I also enjoy a lot of stuff in retail that’s not present in classic.
You mean actually finished classes and specs?

Indeed, and that’s a good thing. Now we just need to abolish leveling for alts unless you explicitly want to do so. Leveling is a (pointless) means to an end. I like to do the story once and then never again, as I already know the story.
Again, a means to an end. Mythic+ and Heroic/Mythic raiding is where the fun is.
Yeah, no. Look at the threads complaining people are not getting loot. Guildie of mine took 30 boss kills in raid to finally get a drop at the start of the expansion.
Give them nothing, and they’ll be happy with crumbs.
You still take roughly 2 months to get your character geared for the most difficult content.
You mean the content droughts we’ve had since 8.3?
I will never ever touch vanilla/classic (TBC). The gameplay is extremely grindy, dull, and boring, not to mention extremely tedious.

I switched games completely and went to my GW2 account and so far I love to be back there again.
Pvp might not be the most balanced one but it’s hell of a lot better than the crap wow has. And the best part of it is I don’t have to do mundane boring tasks in order to get into pvp in GW2.
Ironic, coming from someone who enjoys the republished 13-15 years old game.

I love raiding and m+. But I definitely agree that aspects of the game are very dull. Torghast, The Maw, World Quests and World content in general are all very uninspired content that’s no very fun to play. In my opinion <<
Depends in the way you mean that? If you mean hybrids and some DPS specs really struggling to compete in raids and PvP, sure. I do think some are lacking some pieces of their kits that were later introduced, like VT coming in TBC for Spriests. I do think TBC is an improvement there and in a lot of ways but Classic also has stuff in classes that retail doesn’t, like I also prefer old talent trees to what was introduced MoP and onward. In retail there’s also a lot of homoegenization in order to bring stuff more into line for the sake of balance which is pretty eh.

I couldn’t disagree more with your whole points.
There are aspects from classic that would be awesome in the current retail such as harder leveling process (if you do not want it your can purchase the magic 60 lvl button and avoid the leveling)
Crafting is a joke in retail except going for consumables.
Yet you did.
So why are you commenting on a game you haven’t properly played since 4 expansions ago?
Then why are you playing a game you don’t enjoy? What’s the purpose of this rant? That you don’t enjoy the game?
You don’t speak for me or other people who play the game for various reasons and enjoy the game for various reasons. That’s just your headcanon because you don’t enjoy the game and are ranting about not enjoying the game.
Like others said this is definitely a classic andy bashing retail thread.

You’re allowed to.
Leveling is literally a waste of time. You make 0 progress towards end-game because you first have to reach end-game. I would very much prefer a non-level based story progression after which you can just make L60 characters once done and go through stories optionally if you wanted to.
If only there was such button. Leveling alts is a massive chore.
Yeah crafting is really boring right now. Only reason I have alchemy is the free 2h flasks and it’s basically at 1. Engineering is my second craft which has some extra things, but I really never craft anything for others.
Not sure how crafting can be made more interesting without also time gating it, or making it really annoying to progress through. It’s the same as with leveling, while leveling you’ll have an inventory with primarily useless items you basically vendor. If items at low level are worth more, you won’t have to bother leveling it…
Classic forum is down there.
