Funny thing is, it was there (well, the weird CoAD version not based in reality that made it look like he completely left the community). The “Perroy is gone” schtick has been their talking point for a long time now. The guy is inconsistent with his own blog, yet there still are people out there who read it and believe everything on it.
“The guy?”
My friend, as is often stated, it is a crack team of keen researchers.
no i resubbed, don’t worry, im back!!
I didn’t think anyone would care this much about me quitting the game! Not sure if I should feel flattered or upset about it.
Did you quit WoW? Don’t say that.
Have you quit the game, Coldshade?
I did. Haven’t been feeling like playing any MMOs lately. Maybe I’ll get back into it some day, but for now… I’m leaving it behind!
That is understandable.
I’m aware that this thread is bait and that I’m probably not actually the target audience, but there are people on the server who genuinely hold the belief that the PCU do (or did) hold a monopoly over roleplay, but honestly that’s so aggrandising that it completely leaves behind reality.
Argent Dawn is a server of thousands. The PCU’s self-quoted figure is 200(?). By simply comparing these numbers, we know that claims of monopolising roleplay aren’t factual. Maybe there are people in that community who want to “control” the server - I don’t know, I’ve never been a member or cared enough to find out - but I find it difficult to believe that anyone would have that kind of silly aspiration.
Maybe on a private server, where things are run by players rather than a company that barely acknowledges the existence of RP, it would be different. It would almost certainly be different. But Argent Dawn is a public server that isn’t (and can’t be) community moderated, besides the option to exercise social pressure.
As I mentioned a paragraph or two ago, I’ve never been a member of any of their guilds and don’t intend on it in the future. With that in mind, I’ve never felt like my roleplay has been impacted or monopolised by their existence or alleged behaviour. It’s a very large server and it’s very easy to just do your own thing, unimpaired by a community. Even if that community is a comparatively large one.
Shame, dragonflight has been a great expansion so far.
Trust me when I say nobody wants to touch the kind of people who scream conspiracy theories about monopolies.
Say what you want about them but the campaigns the PCU put together have been some of the best I’ve experienced on AD. Here’s to another year of great rp for us all!
Or sniff grass
The whole “Anti-PCU” drama and hatred to such a degree and obsession always struck me as really odd and weird, even more so when you take a second to step back to see that it’s all revolved around roleplay on a fantasy game.
Spending so much time to make an obsessive blog is weird, to treat it as gospel/newsletter is weirder. To make a thread either as bait or serious to celebrate someone not playing anymore is extremely weird.
Extra so when it’s also not even correlating with the correct time and missed it by apparently over 2 years.
I clicked this thread in the naive hope that non-RPers had been forced evicted from the server, alas, my dream for 2023 was not realised so early.
This.
I joined a few of the big RPPVP events back in the day, but otherwise I’ve had very very little to do with the PCU, besides interacting with people randomly. I’ve joined guilds, I’ve made guilds, I’ve interacted with people, and not at any single point have I felt like anyone has “monopoly” on the server, or any kind of authority over me whatsoever. I’ve never had to actively avoid them (because why would I), and it’s been just fine.
People who are this upset about the PCU (aimed at the OP) should maybe put down their pitchforks and just do their own thing for a bit.
I am definitely missing context because I am new on this server, but this hatred makes the “anti-PCU” people look terrible.
one of the nominees for the ‘extremely weird things to put in your trp’ awards
clear winner if its accompanied by ‘approachable’, because are you really then?
I for one loved every single RP-PvP campaign of the Legion days. Harrowing of Three Corners still resonates really well with me and mine from back then.
They may be thousands but the % of people who RP regularly is pretty small.
yeah, I noticed that.
I am not even making an definitive statement. Let’s assume there is something to their complaint, it still makes (new) people like me shy away from them, and generally make me feel depressed about the state of RP as a whole.
This is definitely not the celebration of Roleplay the OP intended.
If it’s any consolation to you, our guild (which is PCU) spent the holidays in Stormwind and during the time we RPed there, I saw like one person with “ignores PCU” in their TRP. Most people don’t care and just want to RP.
