Hello, I was thinking of playing some classic again but I dont know how situation looks so I wanted to ask you gamers about it

How is SoD and future of it looking? How fresh are anniversary realms? Is there tbc coming to either of them? If I wanted to start playing classic again what would you recommend?

You got three options:

Classic Era* - which will stay as lvl 60 forever.

Anniversary “fresh”* - 6 months old but still people levelling - mainly alts. This will progress into TBC, possibly in the beginning of next year.

SOD - most raids are open and the earlier progression raids are now skippable (you can buy the tokens from vendors now).

Hard to recommend what you should play. SOD gives you a non-classic experience: TBC/WotLK spells in a Classic world, but if you are going for TBC there’s only one option: Fresh Anniversary.
SOD will be deleted once the “game is over”, but it could take some time yet.

* means there’s a HC / Hardcore version available also

In some interview they said SoD will stay and get its own “Era server”

Oh, I apparently missed that.

Yes … I did too in the first place; but somewhere in the Forums there’s a link to it … might be on the US forums, so I won’t go looking for it. But I have watched the relevant part, and it seems legit.

Don’t think Blizzard ever deleted any character ever (even if they “lost” some during classic server closures, but they are technically recoverable). It is far more lilely SoD will stay in Era of it’s own, probably sooner rather than later, I don’t think they have another major raid patch in mind.

Characters will most likely be migrated over to Cata / MoP classic. But as Ironhorns say above, it is possible SOD is being kept and not removed like Season of Mastery did.

Do you really think it is “most likely” that lvl 60 chars from SoD with completely different spells and gear that never existed in “classic” will just be merged into MoP classic? Honestly?
I think it is basically impossible, or at least extremely unlikely. SoD is almost certain to just remain up as an era, possibly have some “fresh SoD” merge into it eventually, like SoM got merged into Era.

Yeah, more or less what they said.

SoD will become Era-like server, frozen at the last patch.

BWL was released, ZG was released very recently. Phase 4. Probably month or two until Ahn’Qiraj. I wouldn’t call it very fresh, but it’s very populated and you will find company at any level.

TBC coming to Anniversary. TBC’s not coming to SoD (unless developers suddenly and drastically change their mind).

Era, if you don’t want TBC and want (kinda) authentic game on a 5-year old server.
SoD, if you don’t want TBC and want fun reshuffle of vanilla with changed abilities, revamped dungeons, new raids, etc.
Anniversary, if you want fresh classic with very few changes (most significant ones are double-specialization and LFD tool) which will become TBC in a year.
Anniversary hardcore, if you want hardcore.

Or Era Hardcore if you want a HC without the Anniversary changes - and with a small community.
