Revert class design to MoP

I think we can all agree that a huge part of the reason why BfA sucks is the class design. The current class design feels

  • way too simple
  • too one sided, just straight forward
  • not rewarding when you play better than an opponent
  • not punishing when you make mistakes
  • very slow especially with the gcd change
  • boring compared what kind of spells we had access to in MoP

Now, in my opinion it would be much better for blizzard to just revert the class design to a previous expansion since the class design has just been getting worse since WoD and we’re at an all time worst now, way too hard to fix the current one.

So, the first expansion that’d come to my mind to revert the class design to would be Mists of Pandaria. Partly because the new talent system already existed back then and Monks were already in the game. The only class that would need an improved class design would be DH.

Other reasons to revert to MoP Class design:

  • Very smooth and complex rotations, yet accessible for beginners
  • Playing perfectly feels very rewarding, you will most likely always win against your opponent if you outplay them
  • Very high Skill cap
  • Pressing buttons felt rewarding, when you pressed a damaging ability you actually saw the HP of your enemy drop
  • Much more exciting abities, including Soul Reaper, Alter time etc.
  • More Outplay mechanics (for pvp)
  • No scuffed GCD change

Every other aspect of the game could be kept, even the pve gear - If only class design was like in MoP I’d rate BfA far above WoD and Legion. Blizzard could then go ahead and do (good) changes using the MoP Class Design as a starting point.

As a side note: I also prefered the old animations over the new ones because my character’s movement felt much smoother, now I just feel like my characters want to eat their weapon when I press an ability

MoP as an expansion was so and so, but the gameplay was glorious. I love the theme of BfA and Drustvar and Waycrest Manor look amazing, but playing my class really tanks the experience by a lot.

Agree

Disagree

This times 100, it literally devalues pvp and makes it feel like a pve against players, getting out dpsed by a caster that couldn’t get most of their casts off is lame, unfun and unbalanced.

Extremely disagree, the only slow things we have is when you pop a cooldown, otherwise most rotations are extremely faster than whatever iteration wow had.

I’d argue that BFA has the fastest rotations ever, I’m reaching over 60% + hastes so easy and so frequently.

Not necessarily, MoP had much greater utility and deeper thought into the abilities, but BFA abilities ( Ignoring their impact ) are actually quite nice.

I do agree with going with the MoP class design though, but keep in mind in MoP classes couldn’t function correctly unless they had 4x tier sets and the 2 SoO trinkets, otherwise it was a living hell and they were dysfunctional.

That is the one spell from MoP I hope never comes back lol, they’d have to delete mages and paladins from the game first.
That and the resto druid one that made wrath crit for 100k+, that was gross. I wanna say heart of the wild but I cant remember if it was that or another one.

I agree, I also miss that spell.

We’re never getting it back though.

So high damage abilities are what you call skill.

By… hitting that OP button… right… skill… check.

Back in MOP i was a total noob. I had no clue what I should do or could do but I enjoyed the world, my prot paladin spec and had a good time with a really fun and independent build.

One day i was with an old friend, trying to farm the dinosaur mounts from the rares spawning around pandaria.
We flew from area to area. And during each we ended up fighting the dinosaurs with help from other people. This continued for hours.

TIll suddenly… it was only me and her. I was the only one semi well geared but by no means very strong. Below raiding.

But here we were. Boss appeared. Some other alliance came that weren’t in party with us and didn’t want to join but merely wanted to tag it. But I got it first.
Now the race was one. If I made a mistake I’d get screwed and they’d kill it instead. MY friend died to the massive aoe the boss did. But I kept at it.

My fantastic mitigation, super self heal word of glory, throwable consecration and so much more. I kept at it. For like 20 minutes straight, recovering, focusing, using all the skill and focus i had to take it down… I finally did.

Soloed a freaking massive elite rare dinosaur. With sheit gear but focus and understanding of my spec. And then the alliance guys said as they saw me playing and surviving :" Nevermind. he’s pro." – Their distractions wouldn’t work and make me make a mistake.

The moral of the story here isn’t bragging. It’s the fact that doing something like that back in the day was insanely freaking hard and took skill and understanding.
Someone you praised people for. Something I praised people for like the blood DK’s soloing kazzak in WOD. Incredible players.

The game has lost an immense amount of skill, having been made incredibly simple and in these days I’d hardly ever credit anyone for doing a good job, nor would they me.
Only in absolutely insane situations which hardly ever happen.
Most of those happened in Legion for me when i soloed +15 mythic bosses because everyone else died to Helya, lol.

But in the world. Never happened. And it just really states how much the game has changed. How specs have changed. Acessibility, fun, complexity and skill based understanding and execution.

Sure, people make jokes about the 1 shot macros for warriors but extreme examples aside. The game is far more pruned and simplistic and its caused legit damage.

I approve of OP’s thread. Because I’d love to play good ol MOP prot paladin again.

While I don’t think the WoW dev team would ever be so bold as to just wholesale revert to class design from a previous expansion, I can’t help but agree that the class design for most specs in MoP blew their current iterations out of the water. I’ve never had as much fun in WoW as I did with my Descruction Warlock in MoP. It wasn’t just the mechanical stuff, but the thematic flavour of burning embers and the “heating up” visual effects as well, not to mention the glyph of verdant spheres.

Oh, and Warlocks had a tanking spec available via a glyph in that expansion too. Never forget how awesome that was.

I always wondered why they decided to change to best class design we ever had

While it took some degree of skill it had more to do with out of control gear inflation. Back in Wrath if you wanted to do Classic raid you still needed more people. You should never be able to solo the current expansion never mind the previous tier.

Thats the dumbest conclusion you could get from the whole post. Cg.

And i have to disagree with you on this. Again ive played mainly arms in mop a bitnof disc and nothing! before or after comes even close to mop rotation especialy if we talk about speed. I do play mop on pvt to this very day and im telling you its way way faster and u have to react very quickly. Especialy warriors. …
But thats my own opinion.

I was about to say that.

No? I solo’d classic and tbc raids with little problems.

?? you could maybe kill some bosses solo but there is no way you could solo a single classic or tbc raid in wrath. I even had to find other people to help in tbc raids in cataclysm. stop spreading bs

I solo’d every single classic raid with ease. Tbc required a little more time and effort but some raids were doable.

MoP shadow priest and glyph/socket system every warforge were amazing!!!

Legion wasn’t a good expansion though especially in terms of class design

Legion was alright. Had plenty of faults but it’s nothing compared to how BFA has obliterated PvP.
