all previous content is equally trivial so it’s ultimately just a gold/hour metric that’s the same for any player or bot who runs it.
how about we distinguish gold gain from content based on REAL difficulty/risk? like make flask materials only drop in warmode in a no fly zone and other players can loot you when you die.
I mean, should an MMO’s economy really be catered towards people who want a relaxing solo farm experience? how does that make sense?
which is the reason for 99% of issues regarding economy, progression, dead open world, build diversity and last but not least: content becoming obsolete a week after it launches.
simply having 40 players running in the same direction in a cave towards a boss was an incredible experience…20 years ago. today it’s not
not quite relevant to the topic but do you remember all those halls of lightning gold farmer bot dks?
when both alliance and horde players had a temporary"alliance" to farm them for easy hks
and stop them from selling stuff from the dungeon trash that was fun
one faction stands at the dungeon entrance using aoes flares and hunter traps
other at the flight path doing the same thing
its a shame we cant do this to the herb bot druids or have their pvp flag/warmode on active at all times?
Honestly at this point I hope they do something to drive inflation a bit more up. Having to farm 9.999.999 gold for some of the BMAH mounts is such a pain through in game means. Unless you are a booster or a goblin playing the AH you probably will never see that kind of gold.
My feedback for this is, please remove all cash and grey/white items from old raids and dungeons and limit loot from bosses only for your class in old raids. Then remove cash token and put more gold sinks to game mount/Gear vendors or whatever remove gold from game and does it effective. Those vendors could sell stuff for limited time only and then just change stuff what they sell and repeat
Yes, from the mission table. You see, there are anima missions, and they reward about twice the anima they cost. So the table is 100% self sustaining, and you never have to leave the sanctum. I have 10+ toons that are parked in the sanctum since about ~3 months into Shadowlands: I collected 4-5 followers for them, an initial stock of 1k anima, and they have not left the sanctum since, and have been generating quite a bit of gold and materials for me. They’re all at 3k+ anima deposited at the moment (up from the starting 1k).
Or less: with 15 max level toons, at my peak, the mission table netted me over 500k raw gold + materials a month (I have more gold than I can spend now, so I only do one set of missions a day rather than three, so I’m down to ~200k / month). Since I did content on top of that, and sold some of the mats, that 500k went into my guild bank. At that rate, 10m would’ve been a mere 20 months, less than two years. Add auctionable materials on top, and you can probably cut it down to a year and a half, without much effort or goblin-level AH skills.
Why not, but even if they don’t there are still excellent ways to earn money through old raids, such as mining & skinning. A single run of both wotlk sanctums earned me 15k gold worth of leather as the heavy leathers & furs smh sell for a crazy amount of gold. (very server dependent, don’t take it at face value. Heavy borean leather goes for 500~750g & fur for 1k on my realm)
Mining dark iron ore in Molten core will earn you more in a run than all raids of let’s say MOP used to before the 8.3.5 nerfs. (50~80g per dark iron ore, more than 50 per full clear of molten core iirc)
If you enjoyed it in the past then there are still ways to profit from doing it.
Inflation is already a thing and tmog farms won’t really impact it that much. At least not much compared to what SL is already contributing.
Iirc if you religiously do your weekly korthia quest, both assault, your daily calling, are already exalted with 9.0 reps & perhaps a few gold WQ here & there you can aim for ~100k raw gold a month per character.
(main source being the callings, 1750 raw gold + 750g from paragon boxes + whatever gold you get from WQs + the ~2k gold chest calling up half of the week)
The mission table alone is currently worth ~1.5k raw gold per character a day on top of mats. Someone on the woweconomy reddit managed to reach 90k a week with 8 characters iirc.
5% is still a fairly big amount if you take into account all the transactions done in a day.
I’m currently on my way to earn close to 2M gold this month alone. I buy my mats on the AH (5% cut) & craft whatever is profitable & sell fast.
Even if we assume i’m making a 50% profit (which i usually do not) we already have ~8.5% of the price taken by the tax (5% from my sales & 3.5 from buying the mats). Even worse if the item was traded back & forth on the AH beforehand. And i would need to sell for more than 4M gold to earn my 2M
That would amount to nearly 400k taken away from the economy. And that’s a very optimistic estimation, i’m usually far closer to 25% profits or lower.
Twilight bastion was a good raw gold farm at some point iirc, you would clear the first room again and again just like you would’ve done in a dungeon. It was nerfed a few years ago but i wouldn’t be surprised if there’s still similar stuff going on with newer raids.
Indeed.
For what it’s worth I checked my realm this past week for the BMAH, trying to get a few mounts. Around 200~400k gold is removed everyday from the mounts, pets & tmogs. And that’s without taking into account any big ticket items or containers.
If there’s currently let’s say 40k players progressing through the raid, raiding everyday & having around 1k of repair costs per night (which my realm certainly doesn’t have, that would be ridiculously high especially a few months after 9.1’s launch) then this would still only amount to 5~10% of what my BMAH removes from the AH.
Of course that’s a very limited analysis, I just think it’s a fairly efficient way to remove gold from the economy.
Firelands etc used to give 2k gold for 10 minutes effort. Nerfing those things closed the gold tap a lot. It’s not about “mog runs” - it was about people farming them on a conveyor belt of alts to make meaningful sums of gold out of nothing.
My point is that we already have worse, as a daily calling is also slightly more than 10m of farm while rewarding close to 3k per character on a daily reset.
People don’t have infinite time, the pre-8.3.5 nerf raid farm for gold was barely a few thousand gold per hour. It would’ve taken you close to 5h a day to earn a token iirc even if you used the LFR NPC to reduce travel time.
This indeed drives inflation but it would most likely barely be noticeable compared to the current rewards imho.
Paragon box is ~4k gold for 10k rep. A calling + 3 WQ is more or less 2k rep => 800 gold from the calling’s rep.
And if you focus on gold WQ to do your calling you can add between 275 & 900 gold to your total.
If the chests are spawned by the “do stuff in the zone” calling then even better as all 6 chests are worth around 2k raw gold but let’s say we ignore it for the sake of consistency.
