FAQ
What are you doing?: Seeing how geared I can get an evoker without doing content that requires a player made group.
Is this a challenge or something?: No, more of a case study. There’s no specific goal, despite the title, it’s just about documenting the process.
Are there any other rules?: No, but things like the flightstone discount provided by my main are things I’m taking into consideration when I collect my thoughts for these posts.
How are you going to get any 437 items at all?: Wyrm crests can be purchased for the cost of 2 great vault coins each. This means a 3 slot vault from LFR yields enough crests to upgrade a crafted item to 437. I can also use the crests later to upgrade champion track items which can be catalyzed into tier.
Why are you doing this?: To spread awareness of the fact playing this way is possible, and showing a path to gearing that’s beyond what’s typically been available for those that for one reason or another don’t do content beyond the queue system.
Finally LFR is open in full and this character has a very slim chance at the legendary weapon. The prices for the items required have come down significantly now to roughly 190k for the whole thing, making it much more affordable and something I will probably do if I ever get it.
Alongside not getting the legendary, I also didn’t get a necklace this week but I did get my Sarkareth campaign quest done which has given me an extra enchanted wyrm crest which I used to upgrade my wrists, I also acquired a socket ring from the 5 heroic dungeon box, which is a nice bonus but likely won’t matter as I’ll be replacing it with a crafted ring eventually.
On the subject of crests I also upgraded my trinket from 411 to 424. I still have 1 trinket slot and a neck slot that can use Drake Crests so hopefully next week I’ll be done with them and have every item up to at least 424.
I’ve saved this week’s Wyrm Crests, putting me back up to 4 in case I get anything better to use them on next week. The only items that cannot be crafted at 437 are tier slots, and since crafting takes 1 less crest than upgrading it’s more efficient to wait for either a catalyzable item from timewalking or a neltharion trinket to use my wyrm crests. Next week’s craft will be upgraded using the second free enchanted Wyrm Crest which is acquired by reaching renown 20 with the niffen, that means I’ll have 7 Wyrm crests to choose what to do with tomorrow.
I’ve reached the point now where the flightstones I’ve gathered have offset the discounts I had available on all the upgrades I’ve done thus far. Making crafted items doesn’t require any flightstones so if you were doing this as a first time character you’d be able to reach the same point I’m at now without the discount. Instead I’ve been using the flightstones I get to upgrade LFR transmog items to normal
If I spend everything and find a replacement for my remaining 411 trinket the next week I should hit 430 ilvl, which is more than sufficient for any content I may want to do on the character and would be enough to get consistent invites to things like normal raids were I to want to try them out.
Until next installment
