I’m levelling a shaman and when each new rank of rockbiter I do not get the attack power increase that it should have, rather only a small increase from the previous rank and a slight increase per level upto when the new rank comes in, pretty much just a small increase per level rather than a big upgrade straight away.
Does anyone know if this is intentional?
Example:
Dinged 34, Rockbiter Rank 5 should have 355 Attack Power bonus but I only receive 225 then between level 34 and 44 (Rank 6) it will end up at the attack power it should be of 355.
This isnt only in the tooltip etc, it affects the characters AP this way - makes rockbiter not feel fun as you dont really ever get a new rank and its also sand bagged down rather than getting 355 AP at 34 I get 225
Most spells have an increasing effect for each level. For example a new rank of frostbolt will gain a damage point or so each level until a new rank is available. In the first level(s) of getting a new rank they are often not more mana efficient in the baseline damage.
Battle shout and similar buffs also gain increasing power as you level. If you compare your old ranks you should see the difference between them.
I can’t say its something i’ve seen this noticeable before though, for example a new rank of lightning shield gives me 92 Nature Damage (Talented) which is a huge jump (50-60%) from the previous rank, with rockbiter its literally increasing 20AP per level and then the new rank is just another 20AP, no big jump to make you feel you’ve got a new rank
I get that frostbolt recieves a very small increase each level but its not like you get 5 frost damage per level and the new rank then only has a 5 damage increase, theres still a significant jump, with rockbiter there isnt at all and I don’t remember it being like this in the past
wowhead shows R4 rockbiter being 194 AP at 32 and 129 AP at 24, +8 AP per level. Next rank is 211 AP at 34. Then it’s 18 AP per level, giving 355 at 42. R6 at 44 gives +393 AP and +522 AP at 52, which was 13 AP per level.
I’ve just levelled a mage to 6 and using fireball as a test the spell damage does go up slightly per level but it then jumps 70-80% to the next rank as expected.
Fireball Rank 2 Lvl 6: 31-45 Damage - Large Increase upon levelling and new rank
With rockbiter, I’ve just hit level 34 giving me Rank 5 Rockbiter with the below:
Rank 4 - 220 AP (Talented)
Rank 5 - 240 AP (Talented)
Wowhead Rank 5 shows as 420 AP (20% increase from talents) which my character will now slowly increase to each level upto 44.
I’m sure it wasn’t like this in the past and feels like it defeats the point of the spell ranks, its completely linear from 1-60
Recalculate fireball with the cast time. Rank 2 has a longer cast time and the DPS increase is not as significant as you think. Most spells also barely increase in terms of mana efficiency or even decrease. Rockbiter’s scaling is probably comparable to Seal of the Righteousness
