You lose a bit of DPS with the weapon switch delay but unless you’re doing PvP it’s not the end of the world.
Personally I would just stick with swords and open with Garrote, it’s much more straightforward gear-wise and does the job just fine.
Always keep SnD up.
PvP, levelling, dungeons, raids, no matter where you are you keep SnD on at all times.
The majority of your damage comes from poison applications and auto attacks, your whites may look small but that’s where most of your damage will come from until you can stack enough crit to run an Ambush/Backstab build.
Just use a one CP SnD at the start of the fight and your good.
Always keep S n D up. If you download a damage meter addon you will probably find white hits make up 45-50% of your damage. Poison also does high damage and has higher chance to proc if you are swinging faster.
I wouldn’t bother with ambushing unless the mob is a really weak caster. Just garrotte, sinister, slice and dice and then spam sinister until it’s dead.
If you use Ambush it means you stealth between mobs. That right there is the biggest time waste ever. Talking efficientcy after that is kinda “meh”. Just run, SS and Evis.
While SnD is the King of finishing movies in endgame, every combopoint/tick of energy that can be put put to blast a target down fast during lvling is worth it due to the short fights (and the fact that you both lack talents and hit to fully take advantage of white hits).
If SS (<5) followed by Evis kills a mob (which it should), there’s no reason to put the energy and CP that would have given you a stronger Evis towards a “wasted” combopoint and a finishing move (which also cost energy).
Obviously if you fight mobs that are to high level or Elites its a diffrent thing.
Adding 1 CP SnD at later levels works well.
LMGD (famous Min/Maxing Rogue) agreed to this during a deep dive Rogue interview. Where he pretty much says “just SS and Evis”.
Run from mob to mob (I often dont even buy Stealth untill 12-14), SS and Evis, and let other Edgelords stealth between mobs, pretend to stunlock them and strife left and right while they rock a semi.
Put SS on your stealth bar and open with that, most of the time mobs will be dead before you get the most out of garrote, open with garrote only in situations where it will be up for the full duration.
SnD for the same reason shouldn’t be used until you get rank 2, as the benefit does not warrant spending the points pre lvl 42.
As for the initial question regarding weapon swapping - its not worth it.
Yea that I figured, Garrote is too long to be useful.
Is it not worth it because what Scarekraaw said - just that stealth between mobs takes too long? But if it’s some strong orange mob on which I want to open with Ambush, wouldn’t such macro work nicely?
Would I? Could you explain why? Even if there’s some delay on SS, I’m energy-dependent anyway, and have to idle time to time. So it seems to me it doesn’t matter if I SS 0.5 seconds later - neither in PvE nor in PvP.
I didn’t check, but I have a feeling it’s not 50% on low levels. Also obviously depends on the rotation. Also what Scarekraaw said - SnD takes too much energy/CP while the mob should’ve been dead already.
I agree that SnD might be very worth it in dungeons or during multipulls.
Well to be honest the difference is negligible. I’ve used garrotte and Snd since level 30ish and I’ve not found it to be slow whatsoever, but up to you what you wanna do. If you like stealthing between mobs and ambushing them then do it. You may as well just do what you find fun.
Well, “slow” is relative : ) You’re right, pressing several buttons is more fun than only pressing 2. And I totally intend to do it time to time. But was curious from a boring number standpoint.
