I was interested to learn how honor translates into rank gained and how to rank up optimally. Haven’t found any good calculators online so decided to create my own one based on this math:
The resulting calculator allows to calculate how much honor you need to farm to get to a certain rank and what are the optimal honor rates to farm over longer time periods to get to your desired rank eventually.
For instance if you’re rank 0 then you need 8k (cell F51) honor to jump to rank 3 in 1 week or 170k (cell F123) honor to rank 4 in the same week.
One of the easier to use results is the most efficient (lazy yet effective) way to rank up:
Rank 5 to rank 6: ~7k honor/week
Rank 6 to rank 7: ~10k honor/week
Rank 7 to rank 8: ~25k honor/week
Rank 8 to rank 9: ~50k honor/week
Rank 9 to rank 10: ~120k honor/week
Rank 10 to rank 11: ~210k honor/week
Rank 11 to rank 12: ~340k honor/week
Rank 12 to rank 13: ~400k honor/week
Rank 13 to rank 14: 500k-1M honor/week
Please note that it’s the most efficient way per honor gained, time is not taken into account. With this schedule it takes 5 months from rank 5 to rank 12 but you will have to farm the least honor possible over the whole time period
If you want to do it faster then I think you should be looking doing constant honor which is optimal for the previous rank.
E.g. I want to hit rank 10 from rank 5.
With the honor-optimal strategy it takes 530k honor and 4 months.
With the time/honor-optimal strategy you should be grinding as rank 9, ~120k honor/week
It would take only 2 months but ~960k honor.
Pretty much any honor-rank question can be answered easily by inserting your RP into the calculator.
Forget everything you read. Good.
Honor is relative. Only your standing counts. You could be rank 14 with only 10k each week, if everyone else is lower than you. Your standing determines how mamy ranking points you get each week. Standing 1 gets 14k ranking points. Ranking add up over the weeks, with 20% of your total beeing removed before more ranking points are added. This makes it slower and slower. Each rank from rank 2 needs 5k more ranking points. Rank 14 needs 65k. This means when you are rank 13 exactly you have earned 60k ranking points in total. Once the decay hits you, you loose 12k points this week. If you are the top standing this week you get 14k points which means you are only 2k closer to rank 14 and now sitting on 62 points.
Honor is just used to determine your standing within your faction
It is not possible to get rank 14 in less then 12weeks.
You also need top spot in every bracket in these 12 weeks.
I am not sure what ranking system thy are using for classic but if it is the first one you gone be in for one massive farm.
You can also loose ranking at rank 13 going for 14 it will take 4 weeks of standing n1 in the bracket to get from 13 to 14 if you miss 1 week of standing no1 someone else can pass you .You will loose 20% ranking points each week regardless.
There wass also a limited of how many people could be rank 12+ at any given point so regardless of points if you where 4th (for example) and the limit was 3 you would be stuck at 11.
That is how it worked at the start of vanilla.
It wass changed during vanilla i cant remember when.
I went to rank 11 in vanilla doing wsg ab it was non stop pvp in a pre made and we steamrolled pug’s . Iirc it wass 3 months when i got 11 i am not sure tho.
I quit after that it was not possible todo 6/10h of pvp each day everyday for that amount of time.
