Hey! Im planning out the RP backstory of my character and am wondering about the orc settlements.
I gather, from wowlore pages, that in WoW it’s been 25 years since the Orcs came through the Dark portal into Azeroth. How long ago was Orgrimmar built? Im thinking my character was born in Azeroth. But where would be a logical area to grow up?

They arrived through the portal near the current settlement of Stonard. After that the orcs sacked Stormwind and went north towards Lordaeron, here they were defeated and thrown into interment camps (Thrall grew up around this time, so take him as an age comparison), a few years later Thrall escaped from captivity and rallied the forces of the horde, freeing orcs from internment camps. The Frostwolves had been the last free group of orcs around, living in the Alterac mountains.
Thrall was later visited by Medivh telling him about the coming scourge invasion.
Thrall listened and travelled towards Kalimdor, somewhere between the continents they were attacked by a sea witch and her murloc servants. The Island they were stranded on was home to the Darkspear trolls, after helping them the troll leader Sen’jin was slain by the sea witch, and Thrall with the new trolls managed to escape the Island. Vol’jin, is the son of Sen’jin.
After arriving in a unforgiving land (later called Durotar) they came across the Tauren who were beset by Centaur, after helping the Tauren deal with the Centaur they became Allies, This newly formed Horde then claimed Durotar as their home. A little while later the construction of Orgrimmar had begun.
Rexxar came to Durotar and met with the Warchief. He then helped the horde deal with problems, such as harpies, quilboar etc.
They also discovered humans who had settled down in durotar and who were breaking the agreement made with Jaina (ceasefire between the Horde and humans)
Rexxar also helped the trolls claim the Echo ilses at this time, after which he travelled to meet jaina, he also battled some ogres and became their warlord, and warned her that her father was behind the humans on Durotar.
She joined forces with the Horde to bring her father to reason. In the end they had to kill him.
This is about the time that World of Warcrafts story begins, give or take a few years. The human stronghold in Durotar is the settlement that rexxar initially discovered
Hope this helps you a bit with coming up with a time frame for your characters birth. There is plenty of different moments where he could be born from the moment the first Horde set foot on Azeroth.
As a side note: There might be a few errors in some of the details, when rexxar becomes warlord and stuff like that. The general storyline should still be clear enough I hope.

Basically if orcs age at a similar rate to humans you were then probably born in the eastern kingdoms in a reservation camp.
