Runed rods in enchanting

once you have made the next level rod (in my case, i have made a runed silver rod) can you throw away the old rod? (in this case, the runed copper rod), or will you need all 5 rods in your bags once you hit 300? (copper, silver, gold, truesilver & arcanite).

again (as this seemed to confuse people in trade) i HAVE the improved rod. ie. i HAVE silver, can i bin copper?

wowhead doesn’t seem to address this question. and i ask this cause i had a memory from TBC that the old rod was used to MAKE/UPGRADE the new rod.

Save your rods, they are needed for the lower lvl enchants.

Yes the rods are still needed. That being said, I only carry truesilver and arcanite, and I think gold is needed once in a blue moon for +3 agi on cloak.
And indeed TBC fixes this absurd situation by making higher level rods work as lower levels.

They could actually fix it for classic, I don’t think anyone would complain. It has never made sense to me.
