This. I simply can’t stand when someone 10,20, 30 lvls lower than me with less gear, less spells, or in the game’s fantasy terms - less power, being on par with me, who is higher lvl, more geared, etc, Just the thought of it makes my brain go haywire as people like me are true to the game’s fantasy, and it’s just repulsive the way it is now.
Lower levels lacking in gear, spells and thus power and perfermance is perfectly normal, that’s the whole point, it’s one of the things that distinguishes a MMORPG from other genres, among other things.
Even end gamers should be concerned about it, until you get a massive item lvl spike, a lvl 30 could very well be on par with you, and that’s just a sad and terribly flawed game’s design.
Currently, a lvl 30 can compete with a character that used to be ilvl 452 or so, sorry, but that’s a literal joke of a decade and the defintion of a scaling gone wrong.
I went through the whole thread, including the fifty-or-so posts that weren’t about the thread but about how the thread must be discussed, to see if someone had raised this point before I posted it myself. Thank you.
On that note, AoE isn’t the only thing they lack. Interrupts, mobility, defensives…
It managed to drive me away, an altaholic who was burnt out of questing and thought Dungeons would provide relief. After that one incident where I nearly got kicked while leveling in a specialization I know I am very thorough at - but got out-DPSed severely by literally everyone - I got extremely disheartened.
At least this motivated me enough to do Loremaster.
Were they higher level? If yes, then it worked as intended, they should be stronger, far or less, dpeending in level disparity. If no, then that’s a class balance issue not game’s issue. If your idea is to be on par with others much higher than you, then you have the wrong mentality for these types of games.
I believe where heaven spoke of this in another thread it was an arcane mage out DPSing them by a significant margin at level 15 or so when they themselves were level 30.
I’m sorry, but that’s not a L2P issue. 10 levels is 20% of current cap, thus 15 is 30% more of the capiticy strength, assuming uniform scaling (which is false, as classes get abilities and talents as they level which ups their gains). In this case Heaven would have had access to both Evocation and Arcane Power over the 15, as well as two talent rows, one of them including Rune of Power, a big spike.
There is no way a level 15 Arcane Mage should be able to outdps a level 30 Arcane Mage even with scaling giving the level 30 has access to several core powers the 15 lacks. It’s absurd.
At my current level on this guy, my aimed shot will take out about 20% of an elite monsters health in one go. If I entered a dungeon with a level 40 marksman Hunter I imagine it would not be very difficult for me to “outdps” them on single target due to this fact. This is wrong.
Scaling should allow low characters to not be useless, but at current low characters can theoretically boost high levels through dungeons due to their absurd output at level 10, especially allied races who have a full set of high quality greens. Get them in looms as well as they absolutely crush higher levels in dungeons outside of people rocking upwards of heroic gear with ideal az traits etc. They certainly outperform anyone higher than them who is below level 50.
Just try it, look at damage done in total in a dungeon where you have a 10 arcane mage and a 49 Arcane Mage and the 10 will deal well over twice their damage if not more by casting nothing but Arcane Explosion I most cases. Their Arcane Missles and full boosted blasts oneshot mobs their level around the level 12 mark, on elites is imagine about a third of their health per cast.
Some mobs that i facerolled 2 weeks ago now just oneshot my mage if they touch me.
I do hate the AoE cap it makes aoe farming feel like a chore and unfun.
scaling really shouldn’t be that HARD, base abilities should do x amount of a base creature healthpool, this should be modified for having worse/average/better gear, that’s it. It shouldn’t be that a lvl 10’s fireball does half a mobs damage when a level 40’s only does 10%.
