Screen flickering issue

Tried this and it seemed to work.
I was having the same problem with flickering textures and certain armors/hairs being black (log in screen the worst with up to half of it flickering in and out).
Im reserving judgement though as I thought I had ‘fixed’ it before by updating my drivers but the problem slowly crept back in.

I too have been getting a lot of flickering in-game and I tried switching from DX12 back to DX11 but that didn’t do anything for me and neither did changing other settings. I’m playing with a GTX 1080 and my drivers were up to date with version 452.06 (Aug/18/20) but when I reinstalled driver version 451.67 (July/09/20) there has been no more flickering since.

They are not, a new driver 456 just came out yesterday and it fixes the flickering and MSAA.

Not sure about anyone else, but for me, turning off Triple Buffering worked…

EDIT: Never mind it doesn’t work - Changing from DX12 to DX11 worked though. But why? Also, why did it start happening all of a sudden today? I didn’t change any graphics settings (other than previous mentioned Triple Buffering today) for months.

Hey all, I had this issue since I started playing wow again a week ago (made 1y break and built a new PC meanwhile). This issue was present for me, but not too disturbing, since I used 43" 60HZ TV as a monitor. I had some occasional UI flickering (on top of spells, and all UI elements). I thought this was due to old HDMI cable or something similar, but today I’ve got myself a new monitor (49 inch superultrawide, 120HZ), and connected it via Display Port.

The flickering at this point was MUCH MORE noticeable (almost unplayable), that’s why I came here for a solution. For me, it looks like the issue was maxing foreground and background FPS for some reason (in advanced video settings). I ticked off those 2 options, and now I don’t have flicker any more (which was happening EVERY time when I select a different enemy NPC).

Try it on top of everything else that guys previously said if you had no success. Hopefully, it works too for somebody.

ps. Monitor is connected via display port, freesynced, Radeon 5700xt graphics card, newest driver

Edit: whole screen flicker now happens whenever I press ‘m’ to open map  Doesn’t happen for character or spellbook.

I had same issue and I have tried every possible setting combination ! The problem was somewhere else in my case. Apparently nvidia panel allows setting different settings for game and application has different. I had to add from list of running apps wow to 3d settings, check all possible settings to under app control, and then find a fine point by manipulating settings in-game, it’s like drivers and game had separate settings which conflicted, issue like this is deffo on blizz + nvidia side both enforcing their own settings without checking if app or driver had any change whatsoever. Make sure settings match in wow and nvidia panel ! Hope it helped !

worked for me

Also experiencing this screen flickering issue - especially in Ardenweald.

RTX 3090 and that flickering is really annoying!

No fix so far?

The only fix is to turn on dx11 and play with less fps.

Manually select your graphics card in the settings worked for me  (it automatically selects one by default, but manually selecting one fixed it for me and a guildie as well)

System > Advanced settings > and then on the bottom it says graphics card, put it from auto detect to the one you have

I have found a working solution to this.Change your windows update to insider at release preview level this will then install an update which is only a small update but all my texture flickering has gone.To clarify im still using the latest nvidia drivers also.

Me and my BF both have identical pc’s. AMD 7 3800x, GeForce RTX 2080S. I have a 4k screen for 6 months now, and he stilll had his old monitor (nothing special, old monitor).

I never had this problem untill the cyberpunk nvidea drivers released. I can turn off triple buffering and then it disappears. But in the next area it happens again and it mostly disappears when i turn it back on.

My BF never experienced this (again, EXACT pc, except old monitor). He got the exact same monitor 3 weeks ago, and he instantly got the same problem. All his graphic settings were the same, except for swithing to 4k resolution.

We are using all the latest updates and everything. This problem only happens in WOW.

Wow is the only game on which I have this issue. Fix your crap Activision.

Aye only happening in WoW.
nVidia drivers had the same issue with WoW back in the past. It got fixed a couple of months ago. With this new Cyberpunk driver out, WoW got the texture flickering problem back again…and it still hasn’t been fixed on nVidia’s side.

Why is this constantly happening…and why is it in WoW only?
All my other games work just fine, no flickering, nothing.

If anyone gets any updates on the Driver fix, keep us posted here please
Turning off Anti-aliasing, switching to Dx11 etc, is not a solution…as it all has impact on both performance and looks of the game.

I also had the flickering issue i solved it by setting the graphics card under System -> Advanced -> Graphics card Change from Auto detect to yr actual GFX Card.

Wierdly I’m on 457.51 I sometimes notice small fast flickering faded black squares on the map (whole shadowlands map) in oribos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-KVPmn1pnk&feature=youtu.be video of the issue.Wierdly the map UI starts to flicker before it happens on the map.

They pop up randomly on the shadowlands map only while I’m on oribos. (sometimes even outside of oribos)

I managed to cause the issue by having the shadowlands map open while using the teleporter to go to the 2nd floor in oribos.

Anyone else?

Bit late to the conversation over here but, this problem of flickering started way way back years ago when developers removed one of the three display modes in the graphics settings (display section/first section on top) upon releasing a patch (don’t remember which patch it was exactly). If my memory serves me well (you can correct me if I’m wrong), there were three display modes (Fullscreen, Fullscreen Borderless, and Windowed), and now there are only two but one of them is named differently for some reason (Fullscreen Windowed, and Windowed), I believe the nowadays Fullscreen Windowed is the equivalent of the back-then Fulscreen Borderless but again, correct me if I’m wrong because if it’s different than the Fullscreen Borderless, then there’s a good chance something is wrong with it. Whenever I revert from Fulscreen Windowed to Windowed it works like a charm without any flickers at any time. Right now I have a standard 60Hz single 1920x1080p monitor, very good gaming rig. Even if I click on “Maximise” square button on top right of the windowed mode of WoW nothing flickers as opposed to Fullscreen Windowed even if I have apps and chrome with youtube video running in the background, but of course the cons are the borders are visible, the WoW window Title Bar is visible, and the entire taskbar is visible. On top of that, as I’m not that serious for being the best or one of the best in this game, I have vsync ON simply because at the moment I don’t need the extra low imput lag and I don’t need the extra unnecessary high gpu temperature as Having a 60Hz monitor and running 150+fps is redundant (except the low imput lag yes, but as I said… I’m simply not that serious to top the dps meters and to be the best at every raidboss mechanic). So, take a look at your end, blizzard. But as I said… my supposed reason for this flickering is MAYBE correct. Also, I forgot to mention that back then when there were all three modes in the settings, I was using the Fullscreen Borderless so I could alt+tab (as everyone does nowadays especially the single monitor gamers), and i remember very vividly that there was NO flicker at any moment even briefly.

Hello !

If anyone still has this problem. For me it got solved after I changed the setting in System=>Advanced=> Graphic Card =>From my “NVIDIA%” to “Auto Detect”.

Hope this helps another unfortunate soul !
