Season of Discovery Developer Update - 27 Feb, 2024

New runes and content, not removing existing content.

They promised to not change 40 man raids and look MC is ruined, and people invested effort to build guilds with 40 man fun in mind. Why do you think someone send more than 1 team to the raids?

Maybe to build a team for future? Why do someone manage all that if not for the promised 40 man fun and to have something that will be unique.

Whatā€™s really odd about this defense of Molten Core being twenty-man, is that if the meta is correct that these persons like the ā€˜pretzels and sodaā€™ approach, then wouldnā€™t Molten Core with easy mechanics, more powerful abilities and better gear- be fun with double the amount of persons? You know the persons you should like playing with?

And that as has been stated before is part of the issue. Persons are not interested in playing with others (not on a coordinated level), rather they have a personal goal in-game, that supersedes everything else and the only need others to achieve it.

Effectively their viewing it through an incorrect lens thatā€™s not compatible with the design of the product.

Though the good news is, Retail offers exactly that - funny enough, a trend that developed in the market place which Blizzard responded to meet ā€˜customerā€™ demand.

Maybe they should stop asking us for feedback and just deliver the product they as the artist want to.

arenas would be sick af, i love pvp. but bgs at times feel like more of a numbers game than a skill game. been talking with a couple of guildies about this, and having an arena to que up for would give so much to the game imo.

also, stv event is very fun

-20 man lesgo!!! finally our guild will be able to raid together!

  • 100% xp for alts lesgooo!!
  • more variety in chosing what endgame content to do!! lesgoo!!

-so far p2 is a blast, stv event fun, gnomer is fun, and more mechanics heavy than bfd. more like this plz

  • also, might be a stretch, but pvp arena, like 2v2 3v3 would be rly fun. atleast with how the classes work differently now, than in normal classic

all in all, great work blizz. havent been this hooked on wow in sooo many years

Great news I do have a bit of burn out from sod and I only leveled my priest to 40 this phase and raided once, didnā€™t enjoy healing in AB and just put sod to a side but you can clearly see they are trying their best and making some great changes. W sod team

This! so badly!
ther are so many non direct connections that make us fly back and forth with no reason whatsoever. it just takes too much time.
please, make more direct connections between flight path, specially when they are close together.

Yeah why not change waiting on zep and ships and the endless travel that always made Classic questing gurgle compared to TBC that had questhubs.

And leave the most fun part alone that is raidin with 40 ppl.

This. I loved the original iteration of classic when the game was new, I have fond memories of the guild I progressed through it with and some of us still keep in touchā€¦ but by large those are exactly just that, memoriesā€¦ SOD isnā€™t a 1:1 take on classic

Thats not to say there arenā€™t things I dislike about SOD itselfā€¦ but they set the precedent for tweaking about the raid sizes when they revamped BFD and more recently Gnomeā€¦ for what its worth I get the impression the next revamp will be BFD because of geography, and given it was originally set to be a raid in the first place

My concern going forward is if they plan to do more stuff like STV the rewards should be locked for the first week or made available in tiers (w1 : blue, w2 : purp etc akin to how they put weekly lockout for 2 weeks on gnomer)ā€¦ so if something is broken with it, ppl donā€™t get to simply exploit it because as things stand the message being sent is if you take advantage of something before its fixed you get away with it

the open world is already so terribly crowded tho.
at least on my server, even at 4am on a monday thereā€™s 10+ ppl going for the same quest mobs and it takes 30 minutes + to get 1 simple quest done. And no1 wants to team up, not even lvl 40ā€™s that dont lose xp from doing so.

Iā€™m all for open world content, but with more layers please.

Are you sure those were not in fact bots? I tried last night to kill nagas on my pala for the gnomer quest and today when I finally finished it, iā€™ve had the pleasure of meeting 17(!!) different hunter botsā€¦ Some real people too of course.
(and hopefully my and/or our report attempts accomplished something greater than a quest complete.)

Also on this note iā€™ve seen someone here mention something like to increase gathering nodes/respawns to help. But I honestly think the respawn rates and such are almost too good alreadyā€¦ Getting rid of the bots who outnumber the real players by 10>1 would probobly be a better solution than giving the no rest farming bots just greater gain oppurtunities IMO.
Althoughā€¦ I have stopped mostly going out gathering since it is just heartbreaking and soulcrushing trying to compete with the machines so maybe more spawns would help but something tells me it really wont.

Iā€™m definitely not speaking for everybody, but most people I know will just quit over the changes in raid size, we have a group of friends, we donā€™t want to manage players nor babysit them in 40man. ( or 20 ).
So thatā€™s it for us I guess.
Have fun.

aight, bit of feedback / sugestions
first of, ty for all the hard work sofar, I am having a blast in SoD, loving most of the priest runes (not counting Homunculi ofc) and shadow feels a lot better specially now at lvl 40.

  1. Love the step up to 20 man, to me personally 10 man just felt like a dungeon with a lockout.
  2. please do keep some of the raids 40 man, itā€™s just feels epic to do stuff with so many ppl.
  3. Love the xp and gold boost for leveling.
but would you please consider adding more layers, because currently itā€™s already close to imposible to get something done in the open world.
I get that seeing other people is a good thing in an mmo, and i like that 2 most of teh time, but there are limits and most of the areaā€™s we are currently visiting were not made to support 20 ppl on the same quest or farm at the same time and a lot time is wasted running around praying for a quest mob to spawn.
  4. If at all posible I would love to see more new group content, be it outdoor or new dungeons. maybe some mini bosses, a new dungeon, ā€œmythic ishā€ style stuf for existing dungeons, a racing or cooking contest for all i care, just some more new activities to do with guildies and friends.
  5. healing power potions! i mean, caster dps got their lesser arcane elixir, they also have specific damage type spellpower potions, give us a healing power potion!
I mean, i know most of us dont really need it, but it would stil be nice to have!
  6. Make Homunculi casters, or at least make them attack my target even when i do not stand in melee range and stop them from running after critters on the other side of the zone!
  7. also on the topic of healingā€¦ I can Haz cascade back, please? pretty please with catnip on top? kktnx <3
  8. Maybe some more items added to the supply rep vendors? I mean, the recent changes are pretty great already. the rep is much easyer to get and the 16 slot bag is great. but maybe a trinket just under BFD level maybe? or a pet or cosmetic?
  9. more layers. did i mention layers yet? i think i did, but here it goes again :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:
a few more layers or at least no more collapsing layers. doesnt have to be dramaticly more, but currently getting anything done in the open world can be really dificult and when I finally find a spot with little to no other people, the layer i am on collapses and i find myself in the middle of 30 other players and only dead mobs. itā€™s just frustrating.

anyway, thatā€™s my thouhts sofar.
be well all ! <3

Some of the worst most socially disruptive and toxic changes you did were changes to raid size, such as the change from 40 to 25 man and starting out a raid tier with a 10 man raid as the main attraction. Some of the best changes in that area were your flex raid changes and the times we got to decide between 10 man and 25 man on the same lockout in Cataclysm.

I can tell you that once you start changing raid sizes, be it up or down, there will be NO TRUST that you wont do it again and again and again. Consistency is key to being trusted.
No one I play with likes that idea, because we HAVE BEEN THERE. We have DONE THAT. That is not something we need to ā€œdiscoverā€. I can tell you that 8 to 9 people out of the 11 or so I raid with are going to look for a replacement activity the moment we feel you are moving in that direction.

PS:
Please do something about whoever designs the hunter class. This is subpar. Subpar design, subpar balance, subpar care and quality. It stinks.

  • How is it possible that the same team signs off on something like ā€œAspect of the Viperā€ while we get a completely unusable rune like ā€œinvigorationā€ (I loved the rune quest line for Invigoration though, that was really nice!)?
  • How is the ONLY class in SoD, that does only have ONE ROLE to fill (DPS) and currently only has one archetype (melee) being treated with such utterā€¦ I dont even know what to call a state of neglect stemming from a careless disregard for the consequences of oneā€™s actions.
  • Hunter has been a ranged martial class type forever. That is literally one of the defining features of the class. You simply killed it off with utter disregard. Do you employ Venture Co. goblins in your offices that like blowing up an oil pipeline in a nature reserve every other Wednesday!?
  • One of the great many things you could have fairly easily done is make the Wind Serpents that you get LB Rank 4 from in Feralas spawn with a minimum level of 40 instead of 41.
  • Why are Wolves who would be lovely companions for a melee hunter on account of the special ability so unusable? All that has to change is them being able to learn Claw.
  • In WoW there are so many beast type monsters (or mechanicals, etc.) that have unique cool and fun abilities that get lost when taming (literally the first bear i ā€œtamedā€ with the q item during my hunter quest had a frost claw that reduced enemy attack speed). I want this as part of what defines the class fantasy.

It fits the pattern, but is very disappointing, that NOTHING of that sort ever manifested as content for us to ā€œdiscoverā€. A lot more could be said about the sorry state of this particular class, but I donā€™t think whoeover is responsible for it, is currently measuring up to the most tempered of expectations.

This thing with exp boost 1-39 doesnā€™t think it belongs in wow classic vanilla has never been something that belonged to the game at all. It ruins the whole social aspect of the game. Things should take a long time, thatā€™s the philosophy of an MMO, things are slow and thatā€™s what we liked in 2004-2006.

My suggestion is that you add so that you get more exp if you run group quests such as Elites, or instances, they create community.

What donā€™t you understand about this being a seasonal server?

No increasing the nodes will not help against bots. At best you will be able to get your compos faster , but it would crash the prices.

The reality is that we have only one solution , get rid of the bots. We need a decisive answer because everybody can see them. They are in every farming location. Maybe paying a few people on each server to parse the reports people did and effectively ban bot on sight , making it less profitable for bots and maybe one day get rid of them.

No, its season of discovery. From what you write there is nothing in this game mode for you. Maybe go back to classic era. You can continue with the 40 man MC gdkps until the government cancels your welfare check and you canā€™t pay sub anymore.

People who view SoD through the lense of ā€œthis is classicā€ and ā€œno changesā€ have fundamentally misunderstood the idea of SoD.

4 horsemen have literally one thing to pay attention to, so yes, compared to literally anything after vanilla, there are no mechanics. 25 man Naxxramas is harder than 40 man Naxxramas, because you had to use more than one spell while facerolling it. I guess the tryhard guilds that didnā€™t manage to down them were just really bad at the game.

If vanilla is challenging to you, then maybe you are just that. Challenged.

That sounds great, thanks a lot for sharing the rationale.

It looks amazing! I only dreamed that the raids on 40 players would be reduced, because this is a relic of the past. And now itā€™s starting to become a reality! 10 players were great, 20 will be amazing as well. Please keep this intention - WE DONā€™T NEED RAIDS ON 40 PEOPLE!
