Season of Discovery Developer Update - 27 Feb, 2024

Have you tried to organize 40man raid out of a guild ? yes, it’s a pure pain in the $##$. 20 looks great and feels like a casual friendly stuff . Many players /like me / prefer to run pugs nowadays . Great changes tho

Awesome changes, Keep it up dev team!

The xp boost is the best thing that has happened since the beginning of SoD, some will abuse this even more by farming dungeons or selling xp boost, but for traditional players who normally xp + quests it is a nice gift.
This will make you want to up your alts again.

Good idea i love 20 man raids love so much better than 40 ppl and the ppl wanna go 40 man raid go classic this is SoD not classic this is a new begining go play your 40 man raid in old classic servers thats it devs do excelent work with this project

Really nice changes! Would personally love more 10-man content as that is how our guild operates.
And also hoping that the “Currently”-part of the line regarding flex is a sign that it might be worked on. Really sucks when 12 people sign up for a raid and two have to be left out :frowning:

Bad decision to add a buff with 100% increased experience. This will just remove 95% of the content of this phase and the game as a whole. The world will be empty much quicker, and accomplishing a level will feel less valuable, and also what we have accomplished this far. Gnomeregan will be boring very quickly because you are running it with several alts. Why do you always assume everything is about the max level? The journey is a big part of the game - finding groups, questing with friends etc. Please just keep to the plan that we already agreed to when we started this journey.

20-man raid on the other hand is welcomed for MC, but new content should be 10-man in my opinion. Its already a hassle to get many irl friends together, and we will not be able to find 20 of them. Also, people have already formed communities around 10-man.

We are going down the slippery slope, bye bye classic+, say hello to retail-, maybe this will be the last phase I play.

Overall, awesome news. But with Gnomeregan you have defined a new difficulty standard that increased from BFD, and so far, I’d like to see this increase even in future patches and on endgame content. The entire MC/BWL/AQ etc should be tuned up in difficulty with new mechanics, even if for 20men.
Would be odd that the hardest raid in SoD was Gnomeregan.

Great and all with better exp for alts. Can you also please do rep grind account wide? There is litteraly no chance im gonna farm wsg/ab rep on all toons.

The reason for change of raid size is because Blizzard can’t handle the gear scaling during leveling issue. So to stabilise it they need an anchor. Making gear twice as effective at level 60, while downsizing raid to 20ppl should do the trick, just like Wrath had Naxx 40 redone for 25ppl, however this doesn’t guarantee that content wouldn’t become dull and easy as Naxx 25 did.

At least have the requirement to have one char that’s max level for current content and then unlock xp boost for alts cause yeah that removes a lot of open world content and life to the game overall

Might be a grouch for stating this, but damn, reading that you’re lowering the cost of mounts when I’ve already bought them for two characters feels like a kick in the unmentionables. You first state that it was too cheap and that people need to do the work, and then you cater to casuals when the people who are willing to grind are done with it.
Might be petty of me, but in the words of Josh Stife Hayes “that is a quit moment”.

No one has ever asked for this kind of change. Leveling is an important part of classic, this shouldn’t change, just like gold farming to buy your mount. We don’t want the game to be adapted to a retail version. Adapting raid to 20 players till level 60 would be fine but again, absolutely no one asked to reduce level 60 raids to 20 players ? why are you guys changing the whole game ? Why are you caping ranking at level 60 ? Changing classes, balancing, new spells are all fin for this classic + but the time invested in game should still be rewarding. You’re actually adapting classic to retail version for people who will give up few weeks after reaching level 60 anyway and going back to retail. We, as classic / ERA / Pserv players, the people who will continue to play on it, never ever asked that you guys destroying our game to a complet casual / easy version as retail is in term of catch up, gearing, golds farming etc … at this stage, better you add free level 60 to everyone with token to buy golds. Really got a lot of people disapointed about thoses futurs changes NGL.

Please, keep the max people raid roster to 20.

40-man raids are a nightmare to organize

I hope u will overthink this 20 man Molten Core… I started SOD just cause of the thought i can tank 40 man Raids with my shaman… Now the complete thing is pushed into a Retaildimension. Brainless Groupsetup and nothing to organize… this will not have the right feeling of the old classic spirit and in the End all that counts is who is the best DPS in game to Oneshot the bosses… this turn makes me SAD. You dont need Guilds for 20 Man raids, You dont need reliable Players to form 20 man raids, you dont need Friends for 20 man Raids… all you need is watch Warcraftlogs and pick a few “TOPDPS” and thats it… in the End it feels like Retail… Soulless mmo

I don’t even like 20 man raids as I find them to be a clusterduck and I admittedly have never done a 40 man raid but it sounds even worse to organize and perform. If raid sizes have to go up I do hope that they stay at 20man and that they update the 40 man raids to have more mechanics rather than just “tank and spank” (which just sounds like it’ll encourage dps stacking, leaving a lot of classes/specs behind).

I’d much rather just keep having 10 man raids where each persons role is important and matters greatly to the overall success. This diminishes the bigger the raid size beccomes.

40 man sounds like it’d be fun to zug zug in once or twice just for the experience and then it’d turn into a boring tedious annoying nightmare to organize and perform. It’s an outdated idea that I don’t think was ever good to begin with. Quality over quantity. I’m fine with leaving it behind in the past where it belongs. And those who want to go to that past can always go back to era.

20ppl are raid are way easier to organize but raid 40 has it charm , i’m fine with both decision.

Itemization :
I’m glad to see some changes to itemization! I think it was clearly needed and if it’s the same as what you’ve done before, sure, no problem as long as you dont touch some specific/unique items such as Hand of edward the odd/Edge master handguards/black grasp of destroyer/Heart of Wyrmthalak as it can be used for some cool stuff and theorycraft.
Also, most of the Leatherworking items are not really good (except the craft quest ones). Could we see an improvement for that profession please ?

Alts:
Yay, it’s now easier to play more character ! Dont make it too fast tho as I think it would impact the long term situation for lower level dungeon group formation.

Gold making improvement:
I’m really not sure that adding so much more way to make gold is good for the economy, especially for the casual audience as it will deepend the gap between them and the hardcore/semi-hardcore player.
The supplies box changes were supposed to ease the gnomeregan crafting quest but with new changes that add more gold as that specific change is already huge.

I hope it’s not your way to fight against bots and gold buyer, that would mean to me that they won.

Raid size
The BFD size was ok and understandable. Regarding Gnomeregan, the raid is a bit short so 10 man is good in that regard but it’s still underwhelming ; personnaly that is.
As I hoped for a 20 man raid for phase 2, I’m glad to hear that the next phase one will be 20 man.
20 man raids can solve some problem regarding the tank/heal demand that is now too high (on lone wolf EU that is) and allow some more dps to join and more divers approches/raid comp to enjoy the content. Also 20 man raid would be more easy to manage/create than a 40 man raid.
I also think that keeping some 40 man raid at lvl 60 should allow the players to enjoy some old/revamp content with a twist as SoD was advertised at Blizzcon.

Some ideas
Some player already clear Gnomeregan pretty fast without much resistance. Could we have a way to increase the difficulty in some way to get improved rewards or more epic loot ?
For exemple : Thermaplugg : press a button before the fight that make it harder in some way. In the upcoming SM raid: make a small quest inside the raid that creates some twists in the boss fights or unlocks a hidden boss.

Sorry if bad english #potato

Something to think about:
You actually think they do this changed to make it better for you, the player?
OR do you maybe think that it is to extend a super shallow phase 2 so more people gonna keep playing(paying) their alts???

Bad changes for XP and gold. This will just make burnout happen even faster. Who wants to rush to cap (and complain how’s nothing to do there) has retail for that already.

You want alt friendly? How about account wide stuff, mount training, mounts, soulbound items, bank/mat bank, ah, … – that will be alt friendly not this. Same errors that turned me from retail and/or previous classic.

Awful changes feels like we heading in the retail direction. EXPAND on classic ffs. Dont take anything post BC into this game. 40 man raids with a decent difficulty curve per boss. Loot feels better and the game is more rewarding when the content isnt braindead.
