Self healing change

Hello Everyone

Since few expansions all classes have some abilities to self heal. I understand that is very helpful and pleasant during leveling, dungeons and other pve stuff but this abilities are pain in the a  in case of pvp.

what do U think about idea to reduce effectivness or disable healing abilities for non heal classes during pvp combat?
(i don’t know how to balance it perfectly but in my opinion classes like rogue or hunter shouldn’t have this kind of abilities and others like shaman, pri, lock, druid dps speced should be nerfed in terms of healing possibilities)

using mage table as healing stuff in bg’s was kind of unique stuff in the past but now? who needs it?

Make every class be unique on Its own.
Make pure dps classes be the Best in dps and don’t have ANY selfheal at all.
Make the hybrid classes be 50/50 which means do more damage than the healer but at the same time do 50% Less healing than them.
And make healer do Less damage but do more heals.
Revert the game back to wrath or tbc Where as a healer you had a choice during battle to pop few damage abilitys but not so scary like the hybrids.

Maybe I missed it, so its not a mocking question or anything
But the Mage class is a bit lack of that self heal (with the Azerite trait -blink-heal would be a bit strong to call a self heal) and the best they got is a panic-button in the form of the ice block
Not really like the Hunters, paladiens, heck, even Rogues self heals ^^
But as I said ,maybe I missed something and they have a self-heal skill?

yeah mage is the unique one

anyway still there is 11 other classes

Back in the days of no self healing for most classes though healers were dominant in PvP because of attrition. I lost count ilof how many times I’d beat down rogues and hunters on my resto shaman because all I really had to do was wear them down with flame shock, they’d never be able to kill me if I played defensively and just chipped at them once in a while. As flame shock is instant the cost of applying it was extremely low to disrupting my healing. I did the same on my holy paladin and just judging every so often.

With self heals on such classes it stopped this as the healer has to do more than cast a dot every X seconds as it won’t be enough to take the class out on its own. If you countered healer power by instead giving DPS strong outright damage or mortal strikes then you risk reducing the point of them in group skirmishes.

I think some needs to be more situational though. Hunters only cast their heal every 2 min untalented whereas rogues get theirs every 30 sec. Fury Warriors have a lot of sustain for a DPS class as well but much of that is tied to their azerite.

With the fast pace of the game we need self heal to mitigate our mistakes before the healers fix us.

It also adds depth to heavy incoming damage windows by DPS being able to help heal the thing up.

id prefer rogues (already have vanish), mages (shields) and hunters (pets) to have no healing ability whatsoever and hybrids like doomchickens/retri pallys to have very reduced healing capabilities.

They should just remove healing from those that aren’t healers.

How did you heal vs a rogue back in the days of no self healing for them?

Self healing of classes has never been a problem save for few offenders which have been remedied.

Self healing is ok on non healers & tanks if:

A) it comes at a cost (e.g. resource draining)
B) it has an appropriate cooldown that appreciates its strength
C) if it does not have a cooldown, it is balanced as either being very small, requiring special conditions, or not being too rewarding (see: DH leech, Legion affli warlock, MoP second wind).

You also need to look at the rest of the kit. If the class is very mobile and/or has good defensives, having selfheal can be tricky to balance.

But fundamentally, self healing does not ruin the game. If anything, it makes it more enjoyable because Blizzard has designed the gane around self sustain and mobility and danage mitigation, and consequently classes that lack any of those feel clunky or unrewarding to play.

“Just play with a healer” is an idiotic sentiment to have because your gameplay enjoyemebt shouldn’t be tied to others having to complete your class.

If none of you learned this from the amount of people playing with self-heal and tank trinkets then you can’t be helped. Self healing adds player agency, which is by default a good thing for the game.

Temp shield.
Instead they can replace it with some deffensive.

DH Doesn’t have an active heal either, requires leech or souls to spawn. Rogues don’t have an instant heal, requires 6 seconds to heal up 30% hp, which will be 20% in 4 seconds in SL.

Indeed.

No. Because, for these classes, healing are part of their fantasy and were initially balanced with other classes abilities like rogue stuns.
So, if you nerf healing of dps spec hybrid classes, you also need to nerf rogue stuns, etc.

If anything, they should remove pure dps class abilities to heal, while buff the hybrid classes hybridness.

Just because they aren’t casting a spell that says “heal” doesn’t mean they don’t have heals…

With that logic, everyone has heals, so what’s there to complain?

Well thats my point. What was your post for?

“DH’s don’t have heals, they just have spells that fill up their health bar!”

I mean, really?

It’s called conjured food and water, and if you play properly you don’t need to heal.

Except that they don’t, which is exactly my point :woman_facepalming:

Some heals are objectively better than others.

See e.g.
DH leech. Passive, always available, part of your rotation.

Leech in general is a really tricky thing to balance because you either make it trivial and weak (see bfa Affli lock) or too strong, which DH without a doubt is.

Healing abilities with resource costs or cooldowns on the other hand are much easier to balance because
A) you can react to them or even counterplay them, which adds player agency (good).
B) in order to heal themselves some classes must sacrifice other things, e.g. dps. (Shamans, monks, dk and paladin)
