Raiding and Rated PvP is meant to be a prestigious activity that feels like a genuine accomplishment. Sadly that doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. Within mere days of a new raid’s launch, you can basically buy your way to Curve if you have the money for it.
The Premade Group finder is filled to the brim with illicit websites that sell boosts for real world money. This aspect of boosting is against the game’s ToS but seems to be very badly enforced. You’d think that Activision Blizzard would be sending their legion of lawyers to sue the hell out of these companies for facilitating such services, but no. I’m not going to name specific boost selling websites but these ads are so prevalent that I recognise some of these URLs over multiple expansions. I see and report these ads very frequently and still nothing is done about it!
But what about gold boosting, you may ask? There’s a certain little thing called a WoW token. Currently you can buy approx 162k gold for £15. The going rate for a Sire Denathrius kill on Heroic is around 140k, which prices it at around £13 worth of gold.
Do you see where I’m going with this. This aspect of boosting is not against the game’s EULA but really should be because it takes skillful game accomplishments and allows you to purchase them with real world money. The difference is that Blizzard profiteer from this practice, rather than illicit boost sellers.
Achievements like Ahead of the Curve, Keystone Conqueror, Gladiator etc are meant to feel like genuine accomplishments. That goes straight down the toilet when you can pay for a guild to boost you through the content. You can basically go full wallet warrior and end up illegitimately boosting your way to a high Arena rating, a high position on RaiderIO or towards a Mythic raid clear.
Isn’t it about time that boosting was given the multiboxing treatment? It really should be a bannable offence.
According to whom? Is it not more that you want it to be “prestigious”, so that you can feel as if you’re a “better player” than “those other guys”? And what about the boosts that are just…because you’re friends with someone? Or because someone just enjoys boosting people? Because, yes, that happens.
Are you really so insecure that you feel your accomplishments are worth nothing just because someone else got to them in a different way? That’s not the game’s problem, that’s your problem.
The truth is - nobody cares about your Curved and Cutting Edge and Gladiator and whatnot. If you want it to be a status symbol, that’s on you. But you’re just one of millions of other players in this game. And the game isn’t about your personal “greatness”.
PS: I report all those “WTS boost” advertisements too. But it’s the advertising I have a problem with, not the boosts as a concept.
PPS: If the community got a little less elitist, I guarantee that you’d be seeing fewer of those advertisements.
Yes its p2w, but we all knew that this is the direction bli$$ard dreams of, as long as they can get away with it.
And selling boosts doesn’t hurt their precious streamers, in fact it buffs them. The little people pay the price, and the world goes forward
Many people actually buying boosts, are actually also boosters, it’s a quick way to get their alts ready.
It is indeed against the rules to advertise in the premade group finder, which is why there is a n option to report advertisment there. That includes selling for gold/$$ and even your twitch channel.
And what is Blizzard supposed to do about the websites? All they can do is ban the advertisers. It is after all not against the law to sell gold. It’s against the TOS, but not the law as such.
What are people “winning” by buying a boost? Some pixels with higher ilvl? so what, doesn’t mean they know how to use said items. Some title? So what, how does that hurt you?
is that hurting you somehow? cause i play this game and sometimes i buy boost for a glory run or such but i never noticed that this game is destroyed by boosting.Even in classic back in the day people boost because they knew how to do it.
If you are good at something JUST DO IT
AND just for example P2W is when blizzard put 233 ilvl weapon in shop for 25 euros
Difference is that you are paying fellow player for his time spend boosting your lazy a…
I rather pay gold to a player than real money to blizzard
But i’m different cause i never purchase token to have golds in game
I have all my golds just playin the game.
U play at blizzard anyway coz gold is tokens, even u don’t bought this token and farm this gold. What u sold on AH is bought by tryhard PvE statics that get this gold by buyers, who buy tokens. This is how its working.
I don’t understand why players aren’t flipping more about this blatantly p2w scenario we have now.
Unless the community is mass rioting against this (similar to bots and multiboxing), blizzard can’t “afford” to lose all that precious money from token sales.
This is hurting the game as much as botting hurt the game back in MoP, where there would be bots in every arena.
I dont understand what you think people are winning by buying a boost… please explain
If i buy a boost,
I will not magically get into a top 100 guild, because they’ll look at the logs.
I will not magically compete with the best players, it just won’t happen.
I will not gain an advantage over people who do it the right way.
Honestly… If you want a HC boost, just sign up for any 10/10 HC guild that are moving into mythic, they will cycle so many players they will more than likely just take you to see what you’re all about, completly free … does require you to socialize a bit.
You win by getting gear, maybe it should be “p2w” since its wow, but paying a token for a 15 boost is not something I at least, like having in the game. Don’t you think having corruption gear on the AH costing 2m a piece and lets you “win” in wow was bad? It was silly imo.
This is destroying pvp the most, having 1 booster in so many 2s game, and 2 boosters in 3v3. It’s bot era all over again, only they’re replaced with glads boosting noobs for gear.
“winning”, not sure how to actually win in wow, some people point to logs, some to achievements etc, raid clears etc. But progressing your character is at center for many.
I just don’t think its healthy for this game that gear, one of the main carrots in this game for many, can be sold for real life money by buying token and then boost.
I know a person that was boosted in pvp too. you can be boosted with 3vs3 if you are semi decent (that person reached at least rivals). So no, you can be boosted in every aspect. my question would be if it is worth it, but that is another matter
