I would like to have a classic only sub. My reasoning for this is simple. Some people only play classic, which is already a mostly “finished” product, with low dev interaction. That being said, development costs are almost non existent as there’s mostly costs associated with Customer service (lol) and server maintenance.
I really enjoyed playing Classic and right now i am playing Wotlk classic, i don’t have any interest in retail, and i feel my 13 euros per month are mostly going to retail expansions development costs.
As inflation is hitting harder and like every person with bills to pay i’m choosing some subscriptions to cancel, and if for example, some streaming services i can “share” their costs with family, in WoW i have to pay the full amount to use only one small part of the service (since i don’t play retail). Therefore cancelling WoW subscription is the next logical step. I would like to keep on playing, but i can’t justify 13 euros per month to play a old version of the game with near 0 development costs.
I would like to know if Blizzard intends to allow a cheaper Classic only sub (around 8 euros or near) for people like me and the opinion of the classic community regarding this subject.
Well, if you have some knowledge on the subject, you would know that the “hard” work is already done.
Graphical 3d models of characters, gear and scenarios are already complete (which is a huge part of development). The lore is already done, the PvE stages, the PvE encounters are already programmed, the PvP is the same.
The only tweaks you have are mostly tuning of PvE encounters since the version we are getting is almost a pre-cata version, bug squashing and other minor inconveniences.
Even if they have some work, my suggestion still stands, wouldn’t the subscription be cheaper if Retail wasn’t included?
And i’m not moaning, i like the game, i want to play it, some people are having hard time with expenses, and personally, would be a very welcome a classic only subscription with a discounted price.
Well… if that would be 100% true, i wouldn’t be able to play Classic without Retail client installed. I only have one installation of about 6gb with classic client, and it’s a separate client.
You said that Classic is a sub-product of Retail subscription, if that was the case, there shouldn’t exist the possibility to install a CLASSIC only client. Rather having Retail installed, and then inside the client, we could choose classic option.
As it is, Classic is completely ready to have a separate sub from Retail, only if Blizzard had any interest in it.
If it wasn’t free then it would be £9.99 for retail and another £5 for Classic, or one or the other payment, so getting Classic does not increase the Sub payment.
No, I said IT WAS INCLUDED FOR FREE when you pay for retail, not reliant on retail for files or data.
If Classic was near the 5€ / 8€ value i would prolly go for a yearly subscription… I just think 13€ is too much for a Classic only player, wouldn’t you agree?
This is like paying for Netflix 4k, and only have a HD TV at home. That’s what the current WoW subscription feels for me. i Would rather pay 8 euros for HD than 16 euros for 4k. If i only had the 16 euros option i wouldn’t even subscribe.
Maybe yes, maybe no. for example, 13 euros for Retail, 8 Euros for Classic, 15 euros for both… Maybe Blizzard would even make some money on the process.
I get netflix for free with my Sky subscription, Paramount + too, if I don’t watch them should I get the subscription fee for those back? No, because I’m not actually paying for them.
You don’t seem to understand, you do not pay a penny or cent towards Classic. You think you do as you only play classic, but that’s wrong and guess what, I don’t play retail either.
Am I against a separate fee? Absolutely not, I am disagreeing that you pay for Classic.

I Agree. What i am asking is essentially that, have a separate sub for classic so i could start paying for Classic only instead of paying for Retail + classic.
I would happily pay the “normal” sub for Classic only; if I as a consequence would not be given Retail mounts etc. regularly and have a Classic only launcher.
Tbh, with inflation in last 17 years, WoW sub would cost around 20 euro a month, so we kinda should be happy Blizz didnt increase sub cost, not decrease it.
Whether game is old or not does not really matter, it is popular and long awaited. Would you lower the price if you were in their position? I for sure wouldnt
Your financial literacy is something to laugh at. Games are not must have expenses, therefore they are cut first when tougher times come. AAA games had always 60 USD price fixed for example. They never readjusted prices because of inflation. If anything, we had more and more way of having games cheaper thanks to Steam/GoG/HumbleBundle in year.
Blizzard also double sells their games with their stupid sub fee. You pay for expansion then you pay for a right to play their game online-which has no offline version at all. Forums costs are negligible, customer service is absymmal. Blizzard prints money with sub fees, even if everyone paid 2 euro per month.
